Channing Tatum Confirmed As Gambit In ‘X-Men’ Spinoff Movie

I wonder will he be introduced in closing titles or X-Men: Apocalypse

    Variety

I quite liked Taylor Kitsch playing Gambit in Origins: Wolverine

Kitsch was fine but with the movie being so bad, we'll never know if he would actually have been decent in the role fulltime. I like Tatum a lot; look forward to seeing this.

I like Tatum too - he has a lot more strings to his bow than some of his contemporaries. Is Gambit a big enough draw to warrant his own movie though?

Before the first X-Men movies were released, and so Wolverine focused, you'd never even have asked that question!

I know Gambit and his standing in the X-Men universe. My point was, do modern movie audiences? The same people who lap up the bland Wolverine lead crap we've been served for a decade?

I hope he can pull off the accent

Tatum is big enough. He'll (hopefully) bring Gambit to the masses.

I always thought Matthew McConaughey would be good as Gambit

Gambit would have been one of my favorites growing up and I'm a fan of Tatum so this is win win for me. I think he'll do a great job.

    Is he from New Orleans?

Well, Alabama. And raised in Mississippi. What I meant from my previous post was that he's from the south so I think he could handle a southern accent.

He's too bulky for the role tbh, Gambit is kinda tall/skinny, atleast from my memory of the cartoon and comics, he would have to nail the cajun accent at the very least to warrant a thumbs up from me, i also haven't seen a good performance from Tatum in anything..

Kitsch was a terrible gambit, like woeful

I would recommend you to watch, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and also the 21 Jump Street remake

I'll check out A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, but 21 jump was meh, wouldnt call it a remake also as its nothing like the tv show

Was surprised at Tatum's casting. I don't think it'll work.

I think it's fair to say we've never had a true X Men movie. More Wolverine and Friends.

This. Wolverine is the most over rated member and is there for fan service. We're getting Wolverine movies, but the Deadpool one has been in limbo for how long?

I like Tatum but would have zero faith in him pulling this off. The guy who played Sawyer in Lost would be perfect for the role.

Wolverine was always the favourite, it's far from a new thing. Even in the cartoon, he was often the main focus. If I remember right, he was the first X-Man to get his own comic.

Fox has set Robocop scribe Josh Zetumer to write the screenplay.
The screenplay will be based on a treatment penned by legendary Marvel Comics writer Chris Claremont, who with Jim Lee created the character for Marvel in 1990. The storyline is being kept under wraps. The character, which also goes by the name Remy LeBeau, has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy, causing the object in question to explosively release its charge on impact.

Fox has just announced that a Gambit movie will be released on October 7, 2016. Channing Tatum has previously been tied to the role of Gambit, and the actor confirmed his role in the film via Twitter after Fox's announcement.

Has to get Gambits accent down pat for this. Throw in some gallic flair. Not sure how I feel about Tatum tbh. Wonder how they will approach this. His time with the Thieves Guild? Will it be his time with Storm?

They could do a lot worse that Channing Tatum. He's done some good stuff recently (Foxcatcher, Side Effects, 21 Jump Street) so I'd be hopeful.
Gambit has a fierce attitude though, which is something he doesn't really do regularly.

Léa Seydoux Snags Female Lead In Gambit
EXCLUSIVE: Lea Seydoux has the offer to star alongside Channing Tatum in Fox’s Rupert Wyatt-directed X-Men spinoff Gambit. This was a hotly contested job for the role of Belladonna Boudreaux aka Bella. As Deadline was first to reveal, the studio had a shortlist with Seydoux, Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Abbey Lee and Rebecca Ferguson of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. They were set to test, and then Ferguson dropped out to take one of the leads in DreamWorks’ adaptation of The Girl On The Train.

Now, the role in Gambit will go to Seydoux, who moved from the racy Cannes sensation Blue Is The Warmest Color to the 007 film Spectre. In X-Men lore, Bella was Gambit’s love since childhood, but eventually she gained powers of her own and became head of the Assassins Guild. Gambit, aka Remy LeBeau, was head of the Thieves Guild. The French actress is repped by WME, United Agents and Agence Adequat.

I just don't see him as Gambit. The character that is Gambit it tall lean and slim Tatum is a large bloke so i can't see him visually pulling this off for me.

Either way I'm not a fan of Tatum which is a pity because Gambit is my favourite x-men character.

It isn't altogether unimaginable that Tatum would lose some weight for this role. He seems like the kind of person that would be willing to give that kind of commitment.

Pretty sure he's not playing Gambit any more or were those rumours unfounded?

Even if Tatum somehow couldn't manage to lose a few pounds for the role, is it essential to the character that he be tall and lean? Wolverine is supposed to be just over 5' and people very rarely moan about a 6'2" Hugh Jackman playing him.

That is thin compared to typical superhero physique.

I don't think size will be an issue. The main thing will be to nail the accent, closely followed by the smoothness/humour.

Director Rupert Wyatt has exited Gambit.
UPDATE: I’ve now got confirmation that Rupert Wyatt has in fact exited Gambit. There are rumors that there was some disagreement over script and budget, but the director’s camp says it came down to timing. The film was supposed to start in November, and it moved to March, clashing with another commitment, though they wouldn’t say what the other film is. Wyatt issued this statement: “I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project. I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.

Channing Tatum’s Gambit is back on with a release date and all for Valentine’s Day 2019.
Hot on the heels of the news that A Cure for Wellness and Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is taking the helm of 20th Century Fox’s long-developed Gambit movie, the X-Men spinoff officially has a new release date. In a fitting move for one of Marvel’s more romantic, smooth-talking mutants — who’ll be played by bonafide heartthrob Channing Tatum, no less — Gambit is now set to arrive in theaters on Feb. 14, 2019.

While that once would have been a somewhat insane and off-limits time of year to release a tentpole superhero movie, studios have made a distinct shift toward a year-round blockbuster release schedule over the past few years. Fox hit gold with the unexpected release date when they released Deadpool in the 2016 Valentine’s Day slot. The modestly-budgeted film went on to make $783 worldwide, so if the studio finds it a favorable day, I don’t blame them.

Lizzy Caplan in talks to join as female lead
The X-Men spinoff stars Channing Tatum as Gambit, a ragin’ Cajun whose ability to control kinetic energy enables him to weaponize playing cards and other projectiles. He’s also pretty handy with a bō staff. In the comics, Gambit was a member of the Thieves Guild before joining the X-Men. “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski will slide behind the camera on the film. It’s eyeing a Feb. 14, 2019 debut. Fox is releasing the film as part of its continued expansion of the cinematic mutant universe.
