No doubt this wasn't his first offence.

    Bloody junkies.

Did he even have insurance to drive the car?

I can predict how this will go.
Scumbag: "I have 90 previous convictions but had a rough upbringing"
Judge: "That's awful! Please take a suspended sentence. See you next time!"

A blood filled syringe? A lethal injection would be too good for the fcuker!

And of course this horrible piece of **** will get off lightly with it but if you or me didn't pay a fine or TV licence we'd be incarcerated. This country makes me sick at times.

Incarceration for non payment of TV licence is the culmination of the process of extorting tax from people, whereas thieving junkies aren't being shaken down for cash by their masters, therefore are free to go.

Mandatory euthanasia would be great, we can but dream. This scum lives and breeds around us.

Isn't this the second car jacking in the last few weeks? I hate what this city has become.

Second reported carjacking. The number of scumbags in this city is exploding and they have free reign. The gardai have a hard enough job catching and charging these scrotes only to have them effectively pardoned in court almost every time.

    Glazers Out!

The City Centre is laced with filth, from the the aggressive beggars to the roaming gangs of knackers who try and intimidate as they walk by, in the last 4 weeks I have witnessed 3 very open drug deals and a scumbag running to the site of the new bridge over the liffey, grab a 4 foot bar of steel run back across the road and try to plant a fellow scumbag with it, in broad daylight, with crowds around them! To be honest I hate using the word "scumbag" but i really don't know waht to call these people. Its beyond belief what they are getting away with.

the repeated punches into the head of the pregnant woman as he drove the hijacked car really puts this animal into a different league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

So we now have car jacking a in broad daylight by junkies with blood filled syringes and people still deny the huge problem of crime in the city center. It's an absolute kip.

Only people in denial seem to be the Government.

Its really hard to understand the mindset of some people who act like this.

There are so many scummers around Dublin city center who seem to have free reign over the city.

I wonder do the Gardai have alot of undercover detectives around and how many arrests are made daily.

If everyone sees scummers selling drugs daily on O'Connell Street daily how can the Gardai turn a blind eye to it

Only a couple of days ago I was basically scoffed at in an other thread for suggesting that Dublin City is a deeply unpleasant place compared to every other city I've ever been in.

this is a very disturbing story. The poor woman must have gotten an awful fright, hope she and the baby are ok (and her partner who had to watch it unfold!).

When this goes to court is the blood filled syringe considered a weapon? It definitely should be. Anything syringe related should be punished severely in my opinion.

I don't know why the state of junkies all over Dublin City Centre isn't an electoral issue.

I know we don't hear anything from the Guards about it because they can't really comment, but I'd expect some councillor to play the law and order angle.

    I'd vote for it.

It certainly is. Local business and community groups are making big noises about it to the city centre candidates.

I'm not in the city centre too often, maybe once a fortnight, and at various times of day. When I am there, I play a little game with myself - see if i can spot a drug deal taking place on the street. I have an 80% success rate. Cannot be acceptable how bad things have got.

It's been that way for years, I used work on Georges Quay and we'd regularly be told to avoid using the ATM at Tara St Station as the junkies were on one of their mugging sprees

The zoo would be fairly safe tbh?

That's if you mean the one in the Pheonix park, not the alternative zoo that the area around O'Connell St can be?

    Bastards.
Horrible, thankfully both mother and baby are okay.

Careful, apparently it's not the done thing to refer to the unborn as a baby.

You have two options: Fetus or parasite.

But he won't be because well why bother... If that was done here though you'd have your head kicked in by the guards, and you'd be in prison

Absolute filth roaming around the place with impunity.

I work on the North Circular only down the road from where this happened, whole area is a scum encrusted rathole - this doesn't surprise me one bit.

Great little country to live in if you're a dangerous scumbag

Tried to push her out of a moving car...what a fcukin pr!ck. Years ago I was mugged at needle point by two junkies, it went nowhere because they were poor unfortunates who had drink and drug problems, list of convictions as long as their arms but sure that means nothing now. Poor woman, I hope she's okay.

I'd upvote this all day. None of the election pamphlets that have come through my door for the local elections mention making Dublin city center a safer and more plesant place to live.

    What's wrong with this?

Option 1: Sit leaving cert, possibility of changing his life around and not commit further crimes.

Option 2: No chance to improve, locked away for a few years, gets out with nothing to live for, stabs someone while robbing them for money.

I'd rather option 1, at least it tries to make a change.

Depends on his priors. If it's a first offence, I'd agree with you. If not, then jail him and some morning just have someone step out from behind a door as he walks through and put one behind his ear. Problem solved.

They offer leaving cert courses in prison, he could complete his education whilst doing a sentence befitting the crimes.

Castration should be the way forward. Stop allowing junkies to breed. Ever.

They're sub-human, the type who do this sort of thing.

The fear of being caught doesn't seem to deter them.
The leniency of the courts back this up.

Yeah I read that story today. I read a lot of the american news and I'm always amazed at the unique stories that come out of the country but when I read this article......"junkie"......"car jack"........"pregnant woman".........."blood filled syringe", I felt sick at the bottom of my stomach. I can't think of anything scarier for a pregnant woman in Ireland than what she went thru, the mind wonders. Can we not just take them off the streets? If there is one thing right now that i want the tax payers money to go towards, it's the junkie epidemic.

I think you'll be fine in the zoo tbh, this lady just happened to be pregnant, I don't think there is a band of scumbags targeting pregnant women.
Dublin is bad but its not that bad, how many people are in and around dublin on a daily basis and never have an issue? By all means keep your wits about you but keep a bit of perspective too.

The poster was worried about taking his partner to Dublin Zoo? Really? You'd be more likely to end up attacked by an over excited 5 yr old than a drug addict.

Compared to many other dodgy areas of quite a few major cities in Europe it's really not. Crime wise we're actually one of the safest around. The main difference I've noticed is that in Dublin the scum seem to be allowed free roam in otherwise "nice areas" and tourist areas.

In other major cities I've been in I noticed that the local cops tended to crack down on that. The scum were more localised to their own areas and if you avoided known dodgy spots you were generally alright. Here you're as or more likely to be assaulted on the main street of the capital of the country.

Crimes against property seem to be more cracked down upon too. Here the usual response is often "oh you're insured aren't you" if stuff gets stolen.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
