    Hi,
I received an infraction for a thread I started which I've been told has resulted in me not being allowed to start any more threads. Ever! As it was put to me.
Got to say this really took me by surprise.
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=90286148

I've contacted the mod who infracted me several days ago to question this with no response, despite the fact to them being online fairly regularly since the event.

Anyway I'd just appreciate some clarity on this I guess, thanks.

    Hi Teddy,

You've previously been banned from starting threads more than once, the last time for approximately 6 months. The reason for this was generally down to pointless threads about any random thought that popped into your head. Some of your recent ones:
Mods, Goths, Rockers, Emos and currently Hipsters.
What will be next I wonder?

I have to say I love the Matrix Goths. I'm not even kidding, I remember them just appearing one day in school with those awesome coats flying up and down the corridors.

Emos were a bit too pretty really to be taken anyway serious as a rebel. It was sort of like, "I want to be an outcast and different but still look sexy so I can date all the popular hot guys". But I guess I was young back then...:D

Rockers get the Teddy Tea of approval because man they listened to some good music. There's often a rocker in me just bursting to get out.

Hipsters....Well, we all know about Hipsters.

Realistically though I was always just a normal regular kid.
Did any or are there any boardsies going through any of these phases?
    Do you regret it?
Why did you become a ______?
I wonder what's coming down the pipe?
Is it possible someday that a something could smash the planet into bits of dust and obliterate absolutely everything?
Also, is it possible we could achieve this with weapons currently on the planet right now. Is there a way I could potentially blow up the planet from the inside?
I'm just wondering if I can do this in theory, or when will it be possible.

(Thread called "You think you have control?")
    You don't. I don't.
    What will you do?
This absolutely amazing film idea has just popped into my head and I can't believe how good the idea is. I've never had a good idea before in my life and this is just after floating in to my head. I know the AH people will take the piss out of me now but I don't care. How do I go about getting this film made?

As well as other threads like:
    Anyone like classical music?
Could there have been intelligent life on earth?
Do you know how many people you've had sex with!?!?
    Do you hold it in?
    Where did acne come from?
    Who's your dream date?

Some of those would generally be considered okay (provided they were by different posters who might be a bit new to the forum). Some of those threads are best suited elsewhere (which you should know well enough by now). And some of them are just an amplifier for your random thoughts (whether you're bored or something, I don't know. But it's borderline trolling).

This was the same problem that was explained to you in the previous times you were banned from starting threads, and it's the same problem you can't seem to overcome, so the mods have had to make it a permanent thread-starting ban. Your threads create too much unnecessary disruption to the forum and excess work for the mods.

As for the infraction, the mod is willing to lift the infraction, but the thread-starting ban will remain in effect.

Let me know if this is agreeable or if you'd like an admin to review this decision.

    Thanks for the reply.

I see where you're coming from with regards to what you've said.
It's just that I was told I was on a final warning before receiving a thread starting ban, and if the mod is willing to remove my infraction should that not mean I'm still on my final warning?

Admittedly two of those threads look stupid and pointless to me.
Things like the classical music thread though I thought would be fine. I know there is a classical music forum but I couldn't ask it there obviously.

You were infracted and given a thread-starting ban. The mods are willing to lift the infraction but the thread-starting ban stays in place. Lifting the infraction is a compromise on behalf of the mods, but it in no way removes the reasoning behind it.

As for your point about the classical music thread, as I said, some of those threads individually might be generally okay. But taken as a whole, they all form a pattern and have to be taken into consideration along with the other threads you make. People can start threads in AH on a wide range of topics and subjects, but the amount of threads you've started and the content of a lot of them is an abuse of that, and despite previous warnings and bans (and agreements from you) to stop, you haven't. A full thread-starting ban is the minimal option available to the mods without banning you from the forum altogether.

How about a review of the situation in 2015?
I'm a well behaved, helpful poster 99% of the time.
It just seems harsh to have excess use of a forum result in a lifetime thread starting ban.

I don't think it fair to say I'm trolling. Perhaps sometimes I say sarcastic comments am saying them with a felicitous tone that is unheard. But if your using touch, it's hard to express this.

I remember a thread I started several years ago, about receiving a phone call in work from porn. I'm sure people will have thought this was just trolling and a mod believed so too. However I was able to pass the phone number onto the mod which allowed to prove the legitimacy of what I was saying. Obviously this isn't always possible.

Actually Penn I've been thinking this might actually be a good thing.
Maybe I have been starting too many threads and this will give me more time to read other threads and broaden my scope.
I'll keep the ban and lose the infraction.
    Thanks.
    :)

Fair enough. There's no harm in asking for a review of this a year or so down the road, just send either the mods or myself a PM. But for now, I'll get the infraction lifted anyway.

This thread can be marked as resolved.
