most have some nitric oxide precursors and loads of stimulants.

    Pros
may get you though a session with a bit more effort that usual

    Cons
    Crash after the stims
    Disrupted sleep
    Dependency
    Cost for what they are

Personally I use black coffee and coconut oil and it works a treat. Eat well, sleep well, train hard is all you need.

Contains MCT's which are an easily utilised sustained energy source. Which I find very handy as lot of my workouts are first thing in the morning and I don't have the time to have a breakfast before hand.

    Also contain lauric acid.

Ok. What's a MCT? Lauric acid?

Its ok I'll google. But you're show boating now.

How much you put in your coffee? If indeed that's what you do. I use it in endurance shake recipes but there's all sorts going in there.

how strong is the taste? would it overpower a smoothie as mentioned or a protein shake?

Use coffee like a few others here to make my own PW. Making your own eliminates some of the cons noted above. The pros are more energy and more productive workouts.

Make my coffee in the morning then put it in the fridge. For the shake pre workout I use about 6 oz of cold black coffee, 2 oz of milk, 1 scoop vanilla protein, beta alanine & l-arginine. Tastes really good and you don't crash like you would with a store bought pre workout.

Use an aeropress for the coffee so its like a diluted espresso shot and I can adjust the amount of coffee I use depending on how I feel. With pre workouts, you will eventually build up a tolerance to the stims/caffeine used so you have to up the dose in order to get the same effect. Upping the dose means you end up taking extra of all the other crap in it though. If you mix your own, then you can adjust the caffeine separately when you make the coffee and keep your other supplements the same.

Was just down in the Asian supermarket and found coconut oil. But didn't buy until I figure something out. It seemed solid enough. I shook the bottle and there wasn't much movement. There was three brands all labelled coconut oil.

I don't see this stuff I saw mixing in a protein shake
    Am i wrong?

    It's solid at room temperature.

I just have a regular black coffee without sugar. I used to be a big fan of red bull and other knock offs before exercise but found they just made me crash midway through especially if it was a longer cardio based workout.

If I'm doing a long slow run I might use a caffeine tablet in my water
