Fitted sheets not fitting!

Hi ladies, I wasn't sure where to ask my question but I figured this might be a good place.
I'm having terrible trouble with my fitted sheets and I need some advice!

I have a double mattress and I use King-size sheets because I found the double sheets didn't fit properly...they were too tight and pinged right off the mattress.

So I started using king-size sheets and they seemed better because they fitted right around the corners of the mattress.

But now I think I made the wrong decision using king-size because when we're in bed, the sheet pulls from the corners and the sides and in the morning, the sheet has come away from one or both corners.

It also looks like there's too much material on the main part of the bed.
What size sheet do you use in this situation?!

If I went for super-king size, then I imagine there'd be far too much material left and would most definitely come away from the mattress?

I also use a mattress protector sheet which is a kind of mesh material (sort of shiny?) and I think that's also rubbing against the sheet making it come away.

Oh I know this sounds so trivial but it's really tedious and I'm fed up having to put the sheet back on the mattress every single morning!

    Help me!

Did you try measuring your mattress (if the size is not written somewhere on the label) and buying the sheets in that size. We have king size bed and king size sheets match the size perfectly.

I've had this exact same problem since I moved house, my landlord insists I use a mattress protector because of the cats (not that I let them into my room, but anyway) and the sheets are always coming off at the corners. I think it must be the mattress protector because I haven't had this issue before

Are the mattress protectors you are using cheap? We had a cheap one (pound shop or Deals or somewhere) and found the sheet used to come off, but since we got a better quality protector, it doesn't happen anymore. The new mattress protector is just like a quilted sheet.

I also think it's the mattress protector that's the problem, so it's reasssuring to hear you think the same, Scarinae.

ElleEm, it cost me €19.99 from Argos...and it's a meshy sort of material..I think you're right..I think I need a quilted material-style protector. Any recommendations?

Ikea do good mattress and pillow protectors.

I wonder if your mattress isnt a double mattress. It doesnt sound right that double fitted sheets would ping right off a double mattress.

I noticed recently when buying sheets that you can buy "deep" fitted sheets. I went from a crappy double bed in a rented house to a massive thick mattress when I got my own place and my sheets no longer fit my new bed.

Here's an example of what I mean

    Those are what I need!
My mattress (I forgot to mention) is super thick and massive..it's KingKoil and I spent a lot of money on it, so it figures I need deeper sheets.
    Thanks for this!

The deep sheets make a massive difference. Mine never pop off anymore by themselves. It's definitely worth a few extra euros when you're buying.

Happens to me too. The matress is much 'thicker' than my old one so figured that was why myself.

This has been really eye-opening, I have to thank you all for your advice.
I thought it was just me who was having this problem, but obviously not!

Sheet came off the bed again today...I swore loudly and felt like screaming.
I'm going to invest in a good mattress protector and a deep fitted sheet and feck the expense.

The tediousness of it all is driving me up the walls.

You can also get these in Harry Corry in Blanch and they don't cost the earth. HOF do them too but they can be expensive

I bought a sheet in IKEA the other day and when putting it on my double mattress I thought it was a bit big, turns out it's for a deep mattress! £7 bog standard cotton plain white fitted sheet.

Not a perfect solution by any means, but to avoid having to throw out the less deep sheets (or in an emergency) use some large safety pins at the 4 corners of the bed to attach them securely. But the very deep sheets are the ideal solution in the long run ...

Arnotts also sell fitted sheets for different size deep mattresses. I have bought for both single and king size deep mattresses in their sale.

We used to have this problem too but bought some fitted sheets in dunnes, about €10, and they don't pop off at the corners. We also got the ikea mattress protector. The cheap ones are awful so it's worth getting a good one.
