Anyone think the reboot is a good idea. LionSgate are all so part of this.
There isn't much info out yet. I do hope the original cast are in it, mainly the white and pink ranger.

I believe the original Yellow Ranger is dead, so that won't be entirely possible.

The red ranger wasn't a porn star, that was a guy that looked like him according to google. He's a fireman or something these days and out of shape.

The blue ranger turned out to be gay, yellow ranger died, pink ranger did some poor quality movies and no idea about the black one. I'll keep an eye on this movie as my young lad is after getting into the original series on netflix.

Meet the brand new Pink, Black, Red and Blue Power Rangers
We’ve got the first look at the new Power Rangers who will feature in the upcoming film reboot.

The new movie, based on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV series, will be directed by Project Almanac’s Dean Israelite, and see the rangers’ powers become more than super but mystical too.

Apparently the team will have to take control of these powers in order to stop an unspeakable evil.

The film won’t be out until 2017, but here’s the new actors taking over the heroic roles.

The Yellow Ranger has yet to be announced, but we can guess that the actress who will play her won’t be Asian.

In the Nineties TV show, the actress Thuy Trang played the Yellow Ranger with black actor Walter Jones as the Black Ranger. A lot of people saw this as a racist move, though producers have denied this.

Clearly with the casting so far the production are taking care they won’t receive the same sort of criticism.

But we hope the Black Ranger still practices Hip Hop Kido!

Director And Writers: Dean Israelite will direct the film, while Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz will write the script. Miller previously worked on "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class."

Israelite told IGN he was "instantly drawn" to the movie. "I read the script and was really surprised by it and thought there was a really cool, contemporary, mature, but still playful, buoyant and fun take on the material, and [it] was updated in a really interesting way. It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure," Israelite dished.

Original Green Ranger: Fan-favorite Tommy, who went from being the Green Ranger to the White Ranger in the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" television series, is expected to have a cameo in the film. In an interview with ComicBook.com, actor Jason David Frank said he knows he'll be involved in the movie in some way, shape or form. "They talked to me about it," he said. "I don’t know how much I am involved, but for sure cameos at least in the reboot movie."

The Villain: The Power Rangers have done their job in taking out several villains over the years, but there is a major one who declared she would return and still hasn't. According to Collider, Scorpina is rumored to the the villain in the film, the minion of Rita. Scorpina is expected to attack the Rangers Morphin Grid, which harbors all of the energy of past and present Rangers.

"Dino Charge": Collider also reported the movie is expected to begin with the Dino Charge Power Rangers battling Scorpina. The film may not be a complete reboot, as Israelite dodged a question by IGN about whether the movie would exhibit continuity with the original TV series. Does that mean we might see the original "Power Rangers" Jason, Kim and Zach, as well as Tommy? In any case, the new characters are rumored to have the same names and traits as the original "Power Rangers."

Filming: ScreenRant reported "Power Rangers" will begin filming in Vancouver in 2016.

The Power Rangers became popular with the success of the Fox Kids TV show in 1993. Two feature films were later made, 1995's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" and 1997's "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie."

"Power Rangers" will be released in theaters Jan. 13, 2017.

POWER RANGERS MOVIE WILL USE ORIGINAL CHARACTER NAMES
Contrary to prior reports claiming Lionsgate would be renaming the Mighty Morphin crew, Saban's Power Rangers will instead be using the original character names for its upcoming film.

In a post on Twitter, the official Power Rangers account confirmed the return of Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack and Trini.

    https://twitter.com/PowerRangers/status/660196750133620736

The casting of all five Rangers has now been revealed, with singer/songwriter Becky G rounding out the crew as the Yellow Ranger. The remaining four will be RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott playing the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Ludi Lin cast as the Black Ranger.

Saban's Power Rangers opens in theaters on January 13, 2017.

Not exactly. The actors playing them left and so did the characters. New characters replaced them but they weren't recast.

First image of suits. Is it me or does the red ranger look a bit like iron man?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,101 ✭✭✭NUTZZ

I have to say I really like the suits, they look a nice mixture of old and new, especially the detail in the helmets. The production team said they were going for an 'alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made'.

My we've come along way from this; :pac:

Power Rangers movie could spawn six sequels
The first Power Rangers movie from Lionsgate will be released next year, but it's already looking to do much more with the franchise.
On a conference call, CEO Jon Feltheimer said that the company could be looking at developing six more films. "We are really, really excited about the Power Rangers movie. We could see doing five or six or seven."

He revealed that this tentative plan is based on the reaction to the new Power Rangers costumes. This, he said, is "evidence of audience interest."

Of course, what truly matters is how much the film generates at the box office. Ultimately, plans for sequels will depend on this.
The Power Rangers movie stars Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, and Elizabeth Banks, and is being directed by Dean Israelite. The film will be released on January 13, 2017.

I can't think of a sounder way to jinx your wannabe franchise into cultural oblivion than premature talk of sequels before a single shot of footage has hit the public. Not even the great forward planner, Marvel, was that cocky, or at least not until Avengers 1 solidified the MCUs dominance in the box office.

I suspect that everyone's mad for shared universes now. It doesn't bode well for this film. Sounds like it's just being churned out to establish said universe.

There has been 20 plus years of Power rangers on TV and as a fan I will admit about half of them weren't that great but there is enough material there to make seven good films especially from the first seven seasons leading up to In Space so if you have one film based on the best episode of seasons and a good enough writing team you could easily get 7 films.

Here's hoping that they're a lot more accepting this time around. When you read stories about what they did to the Blue Ranger, it's absolutely shocking!

I suspect each season will get a film or half a film with the main cast of rangers being as consistent as possible. The season antagonists will likely be reduced to one-film appearances á la comic book villains.

They clearly haven't kept that true to the source with Rita's redesign. And you definitely don't hire Bryan Cranston to just be a flat-voiced face in a tube.

Yeah but he was a 'nobody' back then. Cranston has weight now, easily the biggest star involved in this. Who knows what way they'll use him.

That was a very strange move. It's as if they hired him just for the publicity that it gave them - he featured heavily in trailers and other material, only to die quite soon in the movie.

It worked, obviously, but the rest of the movie, as much as I thoroughly enjoyed it, suffered from his absence.

The film could've been more favorably remembered if they didn't kill him off, or at the very least gave him a longer presence in the film.

The film is remembered for not enough Godzilla and not enough Bryan Cranston :pac:
