TBH it's fine, not a bad game, but not a huge step forward from 3.

I'm on Windows 8.1 (don't ask!), Epic's version won't launch, gives missing DLL errors. Went googling for a solution and turns out loads of people were having a variety of issues either launching the game or getting into multiplayer - apparently it was working for some people if you blocked it in your firewall.

Somewhere around Sunday or Monday Epic posted that they'd updated the install so it should work OK, but people were still having issues (mine still didn't work last I checked).

Epic then came back and said the game is now only supported on Windows 10, and listing Windows 7 in the system requirements had been a mistake. So if you're not on 10, tough. Fair enough, free game, but some people had bought the DLC so weren't to pleased, although presumably they'll get a refund.

The annoying thing is the game runs perfectly well on 8.1, it's just the Epic version that doesn't. Though that's probably more the fault of Square Enix and whatever build they gave Epic. Just a pity, it's one of the bigger freebies they've had and it ended up a bit of a mess for a lot of people.

Just in case you aren't aware, you can upgrade Windows 8 to 10 for free still

Definitely worth it as Windows 8 sucks donkey balls

Wouldn't 8.1 run better on older hardware though? I have an old Lenovo T420 which I had Windows 7 on. Of course support ended so 8.1 was the nearest alternative. I read in many places that Windows 10 would perform like muck on the T420.

Not that it really matters since I dual boot with Manjaro and use that as much as possible so I can boast about it on internet forums.

I upgraded an old machine to Windows 10 and it runs much better. But best take this conversation to the other thread...

€38.30 going by the link you gave.

Good deal, though it's scary seeing how many of those games I own... and how few I've played. :o

The price scales depending on what you already own. It's €38.30 if you don't have any of the games/DLC but if you login or check via the Steam client it should be cheaper.

That's me, don't own any of these games so thinking about getting it. Seems like good value even if I only play a handful of them

It's a good deal but for a new gamer I would imagine Gamepass would be a better option, same price would get you the bulk of a year playing new AAA titles and a solid back catalogue of semi-recent to older games too.

The Square deal is more of a nostalgia bundle than anything else. There's a few semi-modern games in it but most are really old, as in, 10 to 20 years old. Remember playing a lot of them on the original Playstation and Playstation 2.

Not that it makes them bad games, at all, but it's not a bundle I'd say is "perfect" for a new gamer versus Gamepass, which would allow you to play €100's worth of AAA games from as recent as 2020.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,630 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

Ah I'd say it's perfect for someone who has never played them as many are really essential to experience.

But yeah they are older... obviously hence the low price for all.

    Anyway sorry for chat!
