Is there a specific reason you need such light weights? Buy an adjustable set from argos like this and you can adjust the weight as required.

Try a litre of milk filled with water...or a bag of sugar.

There's no link to the dumbbells you bought previously but I'm not sure how much difference there is going to be between one set of 1kg DBs and another.

In all honestly, 1kg is so light to be absolutely worthless. There will be no benefit to lifting something the same weight as a litre of milk fifty times. In particular, you should not any money whatsoeverfor it.

He should be looking at press-ups and chin-ups and other body weight exercises.

Is there a specific reason you need such a light weight? The more info you can give the more helpful our replies will be.

Sorry for being enigmatic:) He's only 7 so it's more for routine really than effects to the muscles... I didn't think he should be doing any proper weights lifting at this age.

If its just to practice movements use a broom handle for exercises like squats, deadlifts etc. Although he needs to be taught correctly as these are the basis for weighlifting.

When he has these right he could go to an Olympic Lifting club or qualified s&c coach and get trained on lifts like the snatch and clean - again using a broom handle.

Get him to a playground with monkey bars etc - that way he will have fun and will be moving his own bodyweight.

No need for any dumbells at this stage.

Ok thanks so I guess better for him would be pressups and other stuff with using his own bodyweight... He wanted to have his own dumbbells though..
Anyway, I may use water bottles:)

It's adjustable, plus easy hydration when finished :pac:

At 7 he probably cant do a pressup.
Most playgrounds in local parks have big spiderweb things to climb on. Football pitches to play on. That should be enough for him at 7.
Come to think of it though I had a set of 1 kg dumbells as a kid and always have arms that are bigger than the rest of me. Even after a year of injury and eating terribly I had good arms. I wonder if there is a link.

Some people purposely use things with poor grip.

You could fill thinner bottles with stones or sand to get a bit more weight in them.

An empty solid steel dumbbell handle is about 2kg

But in saying that I think the bodyweight exercise is probably best.

If there is a swing or suitable tree you could consider getting gymnastic rings.

Sure he can't, he can do knee supported ones (I don't know what the proper name for these is).

He also is outside quite often, he loves playgrounds and fun-zone-ish areas.

He just wanted dumbbells so he could join me doing some exercises.

Not a bad habit to get him into!

Try tkmaxx. They often have exercise equipment in for next to nothing.

I have seen dog toys in the shape of kettlebells and dumbbells in TKMAX, they are made of a dense rubber and aren't too heavy.

Elverys have these and a smaller weight. His hands would be supported by the strap, if that would help
