The ignore user function

Was just pondering this today after putting someone on ignore for the first time. Exactly what is the point of it if a) their posts still show up when quoted and b) there is a dirty big box where their posts should be, as opposed to a blank space or something. Is there any chance of this being improved?

It's a legacy feature of vBulletin - what you see is an extension of how mods see deleted posts.

You could suggest it as a feature / improvement in the site dev forum:

If their quoted posts didn't show you might lose the context of the thread at times? I don't find that a hardship, at least you know what someone else is responding to and you can move past it.

Also the blank boxes don't show up on touch.

It does also mean that they can't PM you, which can be handy for some people.

Unfortunately it doesn't really mean that at all. They can still PM you, and you will still get a PM notification and they will stay as unread PMs but similar to deleted posts you have to choose to "view PM" or else delete them to remove them from your notification list. Unless this has changed in the past six months.

Thanks for the plug Unfortunately, the site where the scripts are hosted (userscripts.org) is down at the moment, and probably not coming back up, so I'm working on getting them hosted somewhere else shortly
