From Kroos to James McCarthy. Ha. What a 24 hours.

I'd actually love to sign him and get rid of Cleverley in one go. I'd actually swap them Fellaini for McCarthy if push came to shove.

McCarthy is not good enough for where we want to get back to. If this is the calibre of player we are after then say hello to many seasons of mediocrity.

Koke publicly snubbed united aswell . Were like an ugly dude at a disco at the moment .

Go away outta that. We cant just buy 30 million pound players and above. Buying McCarthy for say 18 million and selling Cleverley for about 8 million actually improves us. And we are not far off Champions League qualification. We can easily finish 4th with a bit of improvement.

I agree. Would be all the more bizarre considering we spunked £37 million on a player we didnt really need in January. The main area of the team that needs serious attention and has done for the last few years, is the midfield. The money is obviously there to bring in quality players so lets hope McCarthy isnt where the bar is being set.

Anyway, its all paper talk at the moment.Lets see how it plays out.

The thing that bugs me about the possible McCarthy transfer is that he should've been bought last summer when we were crying out for midfielders. He's had a great season with Everton, and the majority of people on here would've seen him play regularly before that. He mightn't be at the level that we want at the moment, but he's only 23, and a lot better option that Cleverly or Anderson.

Buying McCarthy for less than 20 million is a very good idea. Not sure Everton would go for it but maybe with a bit of money and Cleverley as an option for them then they might.

If United bought 3 players of McCarthy's quality and 2 absolute world class stars id be happy. I'd class Shaw as a McCarthy type buy too cause he is still young and unproven. We have to be realistic as well as optimistic.

Totally agree. He got a lot of mentions from people here last year and i cant remember anyone disagreeing. Cleverley Carrick and Anderson need to be phased out, either to the bench or sold. McCarthy is a start if we could get him.

Love Giggsy's reaction to Phil Neville's step overs

The only thing I can think of re. Kross is that he would have been identified as the tempo setting midfield player - which is what Strootman is for Holland in LVGs set up, and LVG wants Strootman for that role at United. Rumours we bid for him the other night, rejected.

That being said, we have no idea what formation LVG is going to use at United, so we don't really no what type of midfielder we are after.

Still, gutted regarding Kroos. I don't know what has happened in the last 48hours, but I really do doubt that we were never an option for Kroos, regardless of what he has said.

Well Bangkok, you have some tough questions to answer here, or not.

Anyways, as long as you don't get swept away like a hysterical teenager the transfer window will be fine, just don't believe the hype.

We know players will be coming in this summer, we know players will be leaving. Unless there is something concrete there is really no point and no need to get your knickers in a twist. Journos will spread rumours, papers will do whatever they can to sell and ITK's will be twats

    Use your brain and relax

if it is true and kroos is not coming well then so be it... but like I said a few days ago nothing is set in stone until the player is lined out on the pitch playing a game.... but if it was LVG that pulled the plug on the deal I will be very disappointed

Finishing 4th isn't getting back to where we want to be...

You're right though, buying McCarthy would improve the squad but it's the first 11 that needs improving, especially in midfield. If McCarthy was signed I'd still be wanting 2 more midfielders along with him and I don't know if an ever present starter for Everton would be happy to take a place on the bench for the majority of the season, if he is then fine but if he's supposed to be the answer to the midfield deficiencies then f*ck that.

I hadn't seen much of him before he went to Roma but he's been immense any time I've seen him play for them. A real powerhouse, would be delighted with him so long as his injury can be gotten over without complications.

Genuinely not interested in transfer gossip now that Kroos told me no.

Not going to follow it with sby interest until a signing is confirmed

I think that's exactly what he said (Kroos)

If van gaal pulled the plug on the kroos deal, he must have someone else in mind for the role of deep playmaker. Strootman would be obvious, but what's his injury situation. From what I can gather he would not be fit until September. Is this right?

and I doubt that is the truth, as I said.

Players can say whatever they like once deals are done or dead, doesn't make it true. You say whatever will keep you current or new fans best pleased with you, imo.

Wouldn't it all depend on who plays in front of him? Would you take two world class attacking midfilders and him sitting behind them? I can only see him being used as a holding / defensive midfielder.

Have to admit it's a very odd transfer target though.

Do people actually believe LVG actually pulled the plug on signing Kroos? ... Nonsense, Bayern informed United that Kroos repented and United saved face by leaking it to the press.

PS. The club will be delighted that so many are falling for it.

Saying Lvg want interested was a smart move. Kroos thought he could use united like so many other players have done recently. Thankfully united read the signs and got out of town and saved face before it became another cesc type.saga.

Good point. Didn't think of it that way.

I honestly expect Strootman to sign at some point. January at the latest, depending how his injury pans out. I also expect Lawrence, Wilson, Janko, Keane and Valera to be promoted to the first time throughout the season.

I also think Young, Carrick, Fletcher, Evra, one of Smalling/Jones/Evans are finished at the club and will be moved on over the course of the season.

We'll sign Shaw and Stootman, but we still need a CB as well as another midfielder. With any luck Fellaini comes good under LvG (I expect he will) and he'll actually play a decent role in the team. He looked much better going forward under Giggs than holding under Moyes.

I expect players to be bought, but not a whole new team. I don't know much about LvG, but from what I read he likes to promote youth in his teams. I could really see a lot of the younger guys playing back-up roles next season.

    De Gea (Lindegaard/Amos)
    Rafael(Valera/Janko [Also plays RW]) - Jones/Smalling/Evans(Keane) - New CB - Shaw (Buttner)
    Fellaini - Strootman (U21 Midfielder?)
    Mata (Kagawa)
    Welbeck - RVP - Rooney (Wilson/Hernandez/Henriquez)

I just can't see 3 starting midfielders being signed in the Summer. It's probably going to be one of Fellaini and Carrick and a maximum of 2 incoming.
Could be wrong of course but I'm not seeing the complete transformation of almost every position in the team that some are suggesting.
I expect there will be a lot of money spent on not so many players.

So is the only quote about this whole Kroos thing that one from Bild?

Is Bild not similar to Marca?

Is it not just as likely as unlikely to be BS as any of the positive agent quotes we saw yesterday?

    Tis like someone died here!!

I'd go along with MagicIRL above....I expect LVG to improve some of our current players to fit into his systems and to promote youth who he can mould and maybe not buy as many as we all think and certainly not the profile of player we all think, for the most part anyway....I had a look back through the teams he puts out for the Dutch there the other week, lots of players you wouldn't have heard of and some from some less fashionable clubs in Holland...that guy Fer from Norwich gets quite a bit of game time with him.

I have to say it's all very intriguing....and exciting

The Express say United are cutting their losses and looking for a buyer for Fellaini at £15million.

    Folks,
Is Kevin Stootman actually any good. Also if you seen him play in the Italian league and perform well it would certainly be no indicator as to how he will perform in EPL and hopefully CL after next season. What sort of player is he i.e defensive or attcking midfielder and is he a regualr with Holland when fit of course.
