Has anyone heard anything about this? I didn't see it mentioned when I searched for threads. Apparently it's coming out this year!

Made by the same guys who did Rugby 08 and Rugby 11.
11 was disappointing because it was a barely updated 08. Still though if this is for the new consoles it'll hopefully be an entirely new engine.
Rugby 15 will be released for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita and Windows PC this autumn, Bigben Interactive has announced.

The first next generation Rugby title is in development at Canadian-based HB Studios, which previously created Rugby World Cup 2011.

Rugby 15 will exclusively feature the official licences for the TOP 14 and PRO D2 professional rugby leagues.

"With this new sport simulation we are pursuing our strategy of moving upmarket with strong licences and quality partnerships, as with HB Studios," declared Alain Falc, CEO of Bigben Interactive. "Today it gives us great pleasure to announce the very first rugby game on new generation consoles with the TOP 14 and the PRO D2, thanks to the support of the Ligue Nationale de Rugby (French Rugby Association). We are certain that fans of the sport will enjoy it!"

The game will feature teams from the 2014/2015 season.

Hadn't heard anything about this at all. I'd love if a good rugby game came out. There's still nothing that has come close to Jonah Lomu on the PS1. The Rugby Challenge games were ok but the games would too often descend into crazy offload exhibitions and ridiculous passes. Online could be patchy as well.

I'll try to be optimistic about this but am worried it's just going to be the exact same as the last 2 games.

I'm just glad the people behind Rugby Challenge aren't making this one, that game was awful.

Aw yeah, the Pro D2. Always wanted to play as Auch.

I remember the sheer joy of how ridiculously awful 11 was. The moment Stephen Ferris roamed onto the field as a 6 foot black guy...

I hope they can nab all the licences.

    Pro12
    Premiership
    Top14 / ProD2
    ERCC
    Super Rugby
    Currie Cup
    ITM Cup

    Six Nations
    Rugby Championship
    USA / Canada
Fiji / Tonga / Samoa / Romania / Georgia etc

It really holds a game back when its lacks licences. RWC11 was a joke without New Zealand and Australia (it was a joke in other facets too!).

It would be cool if they had some career mode where you take a struggling ProD2 club and try to get them to the elite of the Top14! Get wheeler dealer 'Arry style.

I hope they have set pieces, they were what I missed the most in Rugby Challenge.

Only rugby game I ever really enjoyed was Jonah Lomu Rugby... could play as Sri Lanka and all sorts - great craic...

Must be a nightmare to try develop a game engine for rugby - it basically ends up being just like 7's

Unless there is another rugby game coming out this year competing for licences would there be anything else holding them back? I wonder how expensive they are to get if there's no demand for them.

A black Stephen Ferris being one of them

Will wait till we actually get some proper footage before passing any premature judgment. Also have a feeling Big Ant will be releasing a Union game which has the same approach as their Don Bradman game (Leave it up to users to create teams, comps, refs etc online and share them in game).

I really hope so, Bradman is a fantastic game

I'm actually fairly disappointed the same guys who did the lazy 11 game are doing this again. Rugby Challenge had it's issues but the developers were really putting a lot into it and it was making progress. The set pieces was the next thing they were due to work on and using the settings you could turn down the crazy offloads etc a good deal. There is/was a good game in development there.

The HB Studios guys are just looking to cash in on the RWC again (if it's the 14/15 season it'll be a good bit later in the year or next year before it's release) and I've next to no faith that this will be any good tbh. Sidhe were investing in it outside of RWC years and seemed genuinely interested in creating something worthwhile.

I think it's important that a single franchise emerges. All these studios starting the game from scratch means the quality is quite poor, but if a game can go through 4 or 5 releases (such as rugby challenge) it will get better and better rather than having a load of different beginners attempts at making a game.

Funnily enough, I thought the set-piece in rugby challenge two was quite good, but definitely issues in too much penetration in the backline and not realistic enough (handing off 3 or 4 players and offloads over the head and just not realistic, but it's been toned down from the first version and in a next version would hopefully be toned down again).

Bought Rugby Challenge on Steam round Christmas time last year. I still play it a good bit and think it's a very good game.

Managed to download a patch which corrects all the player names to real ones too.

If only EA would make a follow on to rugby 08. That was brilliant

Really wish someone would make a Championship Manager/Footballer Manager style rugby game.

There were 2 games of this kind, Pro Rugby Manager and Pro Rugby Manager 2. I have the the second one. It was an alright game.

Rugby Challenge 2 was pure pish. Hopefully this is better than that was.

You can try www.blackoutrugby.com - it's online without real players and real clubs, it's pretty addictive but takes time and effort but it has a pretty active and helpful boards forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1220

Rugby league live 2 is the best rugby game I've played, if you can put up with the other code.

Rugby Challenge 2 is great craic to play local multiplayer. If you don't take it too seriously it can be a fecking hilarious game. Some of the bugs in it etc are just brilliant.

Would love to see a proper career mode, where you can leave and take other jobs in the different league (PRO12, Aviva Prem, Both French Leagues).

The French second tier added is interesting.

Love an online Ultimate Team mode ala FIFA for the rugby games

ordered off the french amazon (well i think i did cant understand french lol) for the ps4.

Pity theres only 1 stadium in the game and the international teams are not licenced

Been playing a few games last night and have to say it's decent craic. Not as frustrating as rugby challenge but the controls take a bit of getting used to. I do like the kicking physics they actually feel more realistic. Rucks can be a bit of a minefield, very first penalty I conceded I was binned for hands in the ruck near half way.

If anyone is picking it up on Xbox One give me a shout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,532 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Was looking forward to picking this up, but I've only heard bad things about it so far from the reviews. Is it true there's only one stadium in the whole game?!

Anyone downloaded it from PS store?

Can ya play 6 Nations and WC? What about European Cup?

Just want to play as Munster and Ireland!

All those tournaments are in, but only the club teams are official names.

I'll be honest it's not great. It's very ropey.Controls are strange and counterintuative. It's fun if you can overlook the shortcomings.

I'm confused. What does that mean? Are Ireland not Ireland in the 6 Nations?? Like what are they called?

Does it have proper fixture list and all that jazz?!

You bought it from France is it? Stupid question but does that mean commentary is in French?

Was planning to just download it off PS Store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,836 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Like Leinster has all the official players and all. Ireland are called Ireland but the team is populated by fake players.

Commentary is English as are the menus :) I'd recommend rugby challenge over this tbh.

Ok I understand now - I wouldn't like that at all - half the thrill for me is playing with the real players - pretending I am playing with Paulie for Ireland and taking on McCaw of NZ for example! Although playing Munster in the European Cup would be a real thrill! I'd have Murray box kicking all day long!

Is Rugby Challenge out for the PS4? I googled it there but found nothing online.

Oh no it's isn't. If you're on ps4 this is your only man. Any other questions ask away.

That's great man - I appreciate all that information.

I don't mind the not great game play but I need the real players when playing the 6 Nations and WC!!! That kind of brings me back to the days of Pro Evo on the PS2 when the players had similar but fake names if that makes sense.

Ummmmm...Not sure what to do now!

It's a buggy mess don't waste your money.

Ratings are off, gets someone to post a provincial squad with ratings they are laughable.

    Only a single stadium.

Can't buy players at the end of the season.

Career difficulty is set to easy, you have to change it before each match.

If you make a sub during a game then that change will be applied for the next match.
