    Pricewise tips.

Lightning set to strike twice with 33-1 Thunder

There was a massive shock in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas yesterday and the same might happen in the fillies’ version at Newmarket today.

The Qipco 1,000 Guineas (3.50) is wide open and there is not much between several of the fillies on their best form from last year.

Having suggested backing Rizeena and Lucky Kristale a few months ago, I’m not deserting them now, but the 33-1 about Lightning Thunder is miles too big.

The sharks were out in force backing Miss France yesterday and if she’d been 10-1, as she was earlier in the week, she would have been my suggestion.

However, we saw the chaos yesterday and while Miss France might be well drawn in stall four, she might not be. Therefore, the filly she just pipped here last year is the bet at 33-1 on the other side.

Lightning Thunder should be forgiven a bad run on soft ground on her final start last season as before that she had looked as good as the best fillies around. Her work this spring has reportedly been first rate and Olly Stevens’ filly looks well overpriced.

The Havana Gold At Tweenhills Handicap (3.10) is trappy, but Zanetto is worth a bet for the in-form Andrew Balding.

He looked a good prospect for Group races at this time last year, but lost his way after easily winning a Listed race at Newbury. However, he has been gelded, given a break, and top claimer Oisin Murphy takes off 3lb.

Out Do is also worth a couple of quid. He is well treated on his best form for Luca Cumani and, while it would be hard to improve a horse out of that yard, he has moved to David O’Meara, who has a good record with this type.

All week I had been keen on the chances of Cafe Society in the opening Qipco Supporting British Racing Handicap (2.05) and he is still likely to run well. However, he is by Motivator, whose offspring can be tricky, and he does seem hard to win on.

He might do it but, he’s not going to beat Elhaame if they repeat their form from Ascot last season, so at 14-1 Luca Cumani’s contender is the suggestion. The stable were a bit unlucky not to win the opening handicap at the track with a similar type yesterday and Elhaame shouldn’t be lacking in fitness.

    Today's bets

    Elhaame
    2.05 Newmarket
1pt win at 14-1 with Boylesports (12-1 generally)

    Zanetto
    3.10 Newmarket
1pt win at 16-1 with Boylesports or Coral

    Out Do
    3.10 Newmarket
1pt win at 14-1 with Hills or Paddy Power

    Lightning Thunder
    3.50 Newmarket
1pt win at 33-1 with Boylesports
    (28-1 Paddy Power)

Interesting he puts up Lightning Thunder, I took whatever 28/1 ew (4 places) I could earlier (not much). 20s now is still on the big side.

    15:10 Newmarket

    Swiss Cross
on the face of it appears to be out of form at the moment, but he arrives here only 5 days after his last race, and in the past has run well after such a short gap between races. His last race over 7 furlongs can be ignored as he didn’t stay. I’ll be keeping stakes in these big sprint handicaps to the absolute minimum this year and probably only going with small win bets as EW is a looser in these types of races. The Selection is on a decent mark especially compared to his AW mark and I don’t think he is a 40/1 shot here to get back to form from what looks a decent draw.

    ½ Point win 40/1 Various

    15:50 Newmarket

Vorda looks the value here given her 2yo form. There is a doubt about here getting the 1 mile but I think it’s worth the risk at 16/1. I’m not sure there looks to be any standout horse in the field this year and it may well be between the 2 french fillies. She looks to have more speed than anything in this field and today could well give her the perfect opportunity to show it on fast ground. Her reappearance was a bit underwhelming but that is why she is available at the price.

    1 Point win 16/1 Various

Was reading hughes column in RP yesterday about how highly he rated the ill fated Chrisellium. Looking through her form, Ihtimal @ 11\1 mightn't be too bad a bet for the 1,000 guineas, connection have won this a few times and she looked well at Meydan.

Others I'm going to have a few cent on 2:05 Mighty Yar, 2:40 Esoterique, 3:10 Hadaj, 5:35 Snow trouble

Going to the races today, Tom Dooley has a great each way shout in the second at 16s and is my main bet. Will back Murtagh's in the last at 8s as well

    Salutation 25-1
    2.05 Newmarket
Seems to love fast ground which he'll get here today. Should out run most of these and at 25-1 it's a good ew

    Asbaab 16-1
    2.05 Newmarket
Another who will like conditions . One of only 6 in race who has won over this distance and has done so in fast times.Good ew chance

    Seeking Magic 3.10
    12-1 ew
For it's sheer speed and consistency .

This Dark Crusader at Gowran is one to keep an eye on I reckon, Was winning over 1m 4f and 1m 6f last season. Ran woeful over 7f (yes 7f) last week and runs over a mile today. No doubt he'll run another stinker but I get the feeling that Tony Martin is looking for a nice drop in the weights so just keep a look out for when he is upped in trip again, no doubt the handbrake will be off

    2-30 Hamilton

Going to give Lady Ibrox one last chance as she is 10lb below her last winning mark. Ran a stinker last time out but her comeback run at Lingfield was a lot more encouraging. 28/1 looks too big

    Tapestry for me.

I don't like that lark in Newmarket of making the jockeys line up like that in the parade ring. Looks like a slave auction.

They don't seem to like it either.

Wexford Opera was supposed to be one of Bolger's best 2yo at the time. Didn't confirm promise they expected. Could run a big race here.

Tapestry appeared to lose her action. Bracelet didn't seem to act on the course, which is a worry with a view to Epsom.

Not a bad day with one to go.

Sting put up miss France here in January as the 1,000 guineas winner. I really hope he backed her.

Seriously impressive there from tagrooda, barzalona had a little brain fart there with the pace!

This favourite in the last hardly jumps off the page like the type to get 10f out of a storm cat mare.

I think Ganges has a handy enough mark but the price is Fairly skinny.

Can't have anything Charlie Appleby is sending out at the moment.

Took a small chance on Donny rover.
