Since moving home, I just realised I eat them every day with dinner. Even living on my own I used to eat them with nearly every meal, which has left me wondering if eating them so much is really that healthy.

    Euw, I don't.

Now sweet potatoes I could eat every day. But don't either. But I should eat them more often. Yum

I eat them for breakfast, dinner and tea. In fact, if there was a fourth mealtime every day, I'd eat them for that too.

Every day. Sure what else would you eat with bacon & cabbage?

Unless I'm at the folk's house for dinner the odd weekend or getting chips from a takeaway, I never eat potatoes. Pasta and rice are just as nice.

They're far more healthy than pasta/rice. I'd have them with dinner most days.

Every day if I can manage it.

    God of foods

i never understand the potato hate.
Roasted, boiled and mashed or in jacket, fried as chips or fritter, saute, bbq in foil.

Not many other foods are as versatile or taste as good in different forms of preparation. I always feel that people that look down on the humble spud are uppity and want to be seen as metropolitan even though some of the best necks that I have had globally had potato as a core ingredient.

Like the wee fingerlings every once in while, bit of olive oil, ground black pepper, a bit of garlic and into the oven they go. Lovely.

    Do chips count?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,656 ✭✭✭norrie rugger

of course they do, unless you make yours from something other than potato.

We have them most days :) Nothing like 'em!:) Love Italian food too though in our house so that's the only time potatoes don't appear!

take the skin off spuds and the are pretty much empty calories, just like pasta or rice, tbh.

    Had some today.
I cooked a stew the other day.
I'd normally just have it in a deep bowl by itself but sometimes I think there are very few things better than a little mashed spuds with a good stew so I had a smallish dollop of mash with my stew today as well as some buttered cabbage.
I make what would normally be considered an adult portion of mash and had half today with some cabbage and my stew and will have the other half of the mash tomorrow with the rest of the stew and some steamed broccoli.

I'll eat them in many forms except plain boiled. At home they would be there at least 6 days so got put off them.

No. They're complex carbohydrates full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. To get anywhere near healthy for pasta/rice, it needs to be brown which tastes like shyte.

I'd eat them with almost every meal. My favourite is mashed with either carrots or cheese. We go through a 7.5kg bag every 10 days or so.

not a big fan of potatoes, they're so much effort for something that's usually so bland
