Water kefir going gooey

    Hey,
    Need help here..
    I got some water kefir but dont know what I am doing wrong as after 48hrs brewing the water is going slimy, gooey.. Instead of a fizzy clean water.
    The grains are growing crazy but my water is not good to drink.
    I use, 4 TBspoons unrefined demerera sugar, 1 litre evian water, 2 slices lemon and 4TBspoon keifr grains.
    After 24hrs, the water looks ok but I think I need to let it brew for 48hrs.. But when I strain them, the water is thick and gooey..
    Any idea? What type/brand of water should I use?

    That doesn't sound right all! Maybe you need new grains.
    I have often left my grains over brew for weeks and they still never went gooey.
