Training for all round fitness

I'm looking for a recommendation for a program for overall fitness. I completed Joe DeFranco's Built Like a Badass last summer and was looking for something similar.

I am 39 and have been training semi-consistently for about 2 years with mostly weights (5X5, 5/3/1 and recently German Body Comp) but very little cardio.

Essentially I would like the all around fitness that Crossfit promises without the huge financial cost or the potential for long term injury. I want to be able to squat 2 X bodyweight but still be fit enough to do a sprint triathlon. Is this possible?

    Any ideas?

If that's your specific goal why don't you do that? scale back your strength training and find a program that has you swim, bike, running every week. You will surely get fitter and the strength training should help with injury prevention.:)

It depends. How fast do you want to be able to do a sprint triathlon and which would be the priority between that and squatting twice bodyweight.

You'd be well able to incorporate a bit of cardio into your week and do a sprint triathlon in a reasonable time at that level of squatting.

Buy a squat rack, barbell and plates. Put in garage.

Off you go and train for triathlons as well.

I wasn't specifically looking to train for a triathlon, I wanted to be fit enough that I could do one, or run in an adventure race, but still be jacked from pumping heavy iron.

I don't see why you wouldn't be. Cardio once a week and i was fine doing the Dublin City Triathlon in August. Granted, I could only squat 1.5 times bodyweight but I lived to tell the tale
