At last you've moved away from junkers with christmas tree dashes and fault codes!
That looks like a lovely example of a e39 with m sport spec. A small bit of lacquer peel wouldnt put me off it, you're saving 500+ quid on what that car should be listed at if it were mint!

It has dropped heavily in price too, was originally up for 1750 2 weeks or so ago.

    The other one is this:

    http://touch.adverts.ie/car/bmw/5-series/01-bmw-525/5963837

Better spec, better engine and auto for not much more.

I prefer the red on the 5er over the blue :)

    Agreed.

I agree the Red looks better but the Blue does still look good and it's a better spec.

That red is the nicest color on an e39, behind only estoril blue imo

she's overboosting, turbo perfect. She wants a new electronic actuator. She may get it, in time...

The red E39 has a manual gearbox, so that's the one to go for. :P

I'm sorry, but I was driving an automatic Volvo V70 yesterday and it was terrible.

Compared to a nackered old bora ?

    Alright. ........

    How is it 'nackered'?

It's not old in my books either. I would happily drive an 80's car.

What was terrible about it? I find the BMW one great.

You just don't know when it will shift and the shifts were not very smooth.

I found it to be the opposite in the 5er. Was there a manual mode on it?

Why would a front tyre "squeal" (tyre spin noise) when just taking normal gentle turns. Noticed it starting today

Had this the one and only time I put cheap rubbish tires on one of my cars. In my defense I was a poor apprentice at the time :o

Auto for cruisin', manual for diffin'

    That's the e39 motto....:pac:

Or if your on a road where you'll be cruising just stick it into 5th. Personally I like nothing more than dropping it down to third and blasting around bends.

I just prefer auto in anything bigger than a Micra tbh.

Ah ffs not more auto bashing..... If I wasn't a yob I'd have the merc as an auto

The E34 is a 4 speed automatic and is absolutely hilarious how long it takes to get out of 1st gear, yet is very smooth to change. The W126 is a non computerized 4 speed auto that can be bump started (I have the instructions in the manual to prove that) and it's even more hilarious, yet is also extremely smooth. The 535i is a 5 speed steptronic and I wouldn't have any other box in it, it's so nice to drive as it is. My old 520 was a manual and I would have binned it for an auto one at the 1st opportunity if someone was willing to swap.

This is coming from someone who likes manuals.

Manuals and autos have their place but outright bashing for no other reason apart from dislike is utterly, utterly pointless and stupid
