    They don't work.

Diet pills don't work. Clean up your diet, try and exercise 3 days a week. Cut out any processed crap. If you want to add something like apple cider vinegar etc I find they beat bloating etc but the weight loss only comes about through hard work Im afraid

    Try Thermobol ;-)

    Works for me !!

Saying pills don't work is usually the opinion of somebody who thought that taking them is all they had to do . They're not a miracle pill , but taking a fat burner along side a good diet and excercise can most definatly work . As above thermobol are good and I also like BSN hypershed . There are a few brutal ones on the market though. I wish when people asked questions like this they were givin an actual answer that might be helpful rather than a generic they don't work , clean up your diet and exercise more , by those that see supplements as the devil.

that looks like a caffeine pill with a load of other ****e thrown in on top to justify calling it a supplement and giving it a nice price tag

OP, I find a spoon (14g or so) of coconut oil does a good job as an appetite supressant if that's what you're after and it gives a good boost of energy too. 120 odd calories per 14g so it's not too bad, and it can be used to fry with too. dunnes and supervalue have the cocowel stuff for 6.99 for 500ml, it's as good as the hideously expensive products you find in the health stores.

Then isn't cleaning up your diet and exercise the first step?

Of course , but supplementing alongside that is of no harm and is beneficial. It's peoe who look at supplements as the be all and end all , instead of what they are which is to supplement a healthy lifestyle, that will inevitably fail and become of the opinion that these products just don't work. Some of them are pure crap , no arguement there. But some work when used properly.

Some of them are great.., if you don't mind sh1ting your pants every now and again :O

The OP might be able to clarify but when I read it it struck me as the OP was looking for a silver bullet, so to speak.

Personally, I think fat burners are largely useless. The legal ones anyway, but that's beside the point.

The OP miight be able to clarify their situation but I would venture that step one hasn't been properly taken.

Agreed , people have different reactions to certain substances . Some worked for me , some didn't . One particular one messed up my prep two years ago. But once you find what works , legal or not , then your on the pigs back as they say .

Through most of human evolution, obesity has not been an issue.
Today outside the western world, it still isn't that big a problem.
Find out what normal whole foods your body runs best on and eat them, move a little, lift a little and your body will respond. It doesn't want to be fat.

They don't work mainly because they are not addressing the root issue, i.e your diet and level of exercise are sh1te. Bailing out the water with a teacup when you have a 4 foot hole in the boat is just a waste of time. They also don't work often because they are just sh1te products - caffeine pills with some green tea extract that makes no difference or fat binders that serve to just rid you of your cash, not your fat. The ones that actually reef your system are mainly illegal.

Telling people to avoid then and get the basics right is nothing to do with hating supplements and all to do with the ethos of this forum - getting healthy and fit.

They don't work mainly because they are not utilised properly in the majority of cases . I did say alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle they are helpful , not on their own. Same way protein shakes are effective once they're not used as a main source of protein. As I said they worked for me several times , I use supplements everyday and I would consider myself very healthy , and quite fit . My problem with people jumping on the supplements are bad bandwagon is that these are the people that generally don't understand , or know how to integrate them into their daily routines in such a way that they are beneficial.

Putting aside the healthy diet and lifestyle for now, because that's advice that is taken as given here, there are 2 types of pills mainly sold.

Burners that are legal tend to be not very effective - they are usually just caffeine pills. You'd be better off having a couple cups of coffee and saving your money. The increase in metabolism is very small regardless.

Binders are as I mentioned in my previous post - they aren't very effective to begin with and do not address the main issue i.e. you are eating too much.

Not all supplements are bad, but the majority of all available diet pills are.

I stated there was a lot of crap out there in relation to burners . Saying they're not effective is a matter of opinion as they work for me , I don't drink coffee so that's not an option for me . The illegal ones do work a lot better and ironically a lot cheaper but I can't say that as advice I'm sure . Binders I don't have much knowledge on because they're not something I've ever used or needed. Im not arguing with you that they are the ideal option to jump on , plenty of people in better shape than me get by fine without them . but when used properly they work as they do for me.

Out of curiosity, how exactly did you identify how they worked for you?

I achieved quicker fat loss after introducing them into my routine . Not very scientific , but that's basically it ! I don't throw my opinion in to the mix to cause debate , I've been training 15yrs and I know what works for my body and what Dsnt.

I was just curious because people sometimes attribute the success of a combination of things to one particular thing.

"I started training and eating properly and I took some protein and I got lean and muscular.

Protein is bettter than God, Jesus, rock, paper and scissors"

So I was just wondering if everything in your lifetsyle had been exactly the same before and after you took it to be able to ascertain it was the fat burner, that's all.

Sorry , I understand where your coming from. Yes they would have been the only significant change at the time . When I started using them I would have already had diet and training fairly perfect. OCD is great for that !

Their effectiveness is measurable though under scientific studies and the ones I've seen have all been relatively ineffective for the money. I don't really have a horse in this race myself though so if you find them useful then passing on your experience is perfectly fine.

I'm assuming that was aimed at me. To clarify the phrasing of the ops ist was that they were 'desperate' hence diet pills will not work on their own, they are not a miracle cure they are beneficial when used as a supplement but the simple equation of 'eat clean plus exercise' is the only solution

You assume wrong , it was phrased at everybody who throws it out there that something can't possibly work just because it didn't work for them .
If I was aiming it specifically at you , I would have mentioned your name. So don't fret. :)

As in the body builder ? I'm sure he's never used a fat burner , legal or illegal . Or anything thing else for that matter ;) . My comment was a tounge in cheek bit of humour , not based in fact that scientists can't be in good shape. Why is everybody so uptight here ?
And Oscar , there is absolutely zero need for them if they are not something your into . However if your going to be stepping on stage at anytime then diet and being healthy won't always cut if and they can be useful .

Yeah I figured it was it was tongue in cheek alright. Just giving a shout out to the scientist community. Guy is ripped!

Also says he's natty... Believe what you will on that one.

Ah right , I thought everybody was just on low carb day and had their knickers in a twist!

He has to say that , he works for a supplement manufacturer Dsnt he ? Well Unless it's a natural competition , then yes there's no chance going against guys using if your not . But I reckon that might be a different debate !
