What radio shows & stations do you like / hate? (e.g. Morning shows, afternoon, etc)

I listen to the radio only twice a month or so, so when I do want to listen to it I have no idea which station is going to be good. Morning radio is the biggest difficulty in my quest for interesting listening, since every station just seems to be broadcasting ****e.

What radio stations and shows do you like in which do you hate?

Any suggestions for morning listening? i.e. before 9am?

So much of the morning listening seems to be absolute head-wreckers playing Rihanna and Katy Perry in between their sessions of wrecking heads. Surely nobody actually enjoys that amount of head wrecking first thing in the morning??

Before this gets shunted to the radio forum, I want to say I hate Ray Foley and Ray Darcy. Ok, take it away.

Aww! But I want to know about AH-ers! I'm not interested in that guy who uses the Radio forum.

Get yourself the TuneIn app for your phone and you can listen to far better radio stations from around the world.

Although, I'm a sports nerd so I go between BBC 5 and Talksport

    Newstalk is the default station.
Steve Allen can be entertaining in the early hours on London's LBC,gets old quick though.

Tried it. Didn't like it. Over it now. I'll try again in another two weeks.

I like the old time radio shows. You know the ones they had before tv (telly) was invented and everyone gathered around the radio in the evenings to listen to them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,790 ✭✭✭maguic24

All the Dublin radio stations are a dose of sh*te in the mornings. (the only time I listen to the radio)

I end up flicking from station to station.

How Bobby Kerr gets air time is a pure mystery.

Derek Mooney's radio show is very dull. Quite like Sean O'Rourke.

Avoid the soapbox midget that is Ray D'Arcy. If he's not pontificating at us and ridiculing anyone who has an opinion different to his, he's giggling like a schoolgirl when someone might inadvertently use an innuendo like "ring" or something similar. He also has an array of uber-annoying co hosts.

Ray Darcy that brought us the Den & Blackboard Jungle = a broadcasting legend.

Ray Darcy that pontificates on his morning soapbox believing himself to be the heartbeat of our nation = vile detestable worthless scrote of a human

I'm a big fan of everyones favourite bankruptcy tourist, Ivan Yates, I could listen to him all day.

Hope he gets the drivetime slot once Hook packs it in.

2FM is dire especially the morning shows.

If you're from Donegal and you're not listening to the Shaun Doherty Show of a forenoon seek medical attention immediately. You are most likely dead or deaf.

George Hook and Ivan Yates are worth listening to.

    They're both hilariously stupid.

Mostly listen to Lyric or 5Live.

That guy on 4fm around lunch time that's always arguing with someone is funny enough. Mainly because he really doesn't care about the argument at all, if someone staunchly says something is black, he takes up the white argument.

My favourite station is BBC Radio 6.
I spend hours at the weekend listening to it while cooking or doing stuff around the house.

Most of their DJ's seem really into their music without being annoyingly hipsterish about it and you get exposed to a load of new artists.

I hate the generic chart pop ****e that gets pumped out by TodayFM/98FM/2FM etc.

Radio Nova usually, but I'm so ****in sick of hearing that stupid Nova noise competition they are running at the moment. Seriously lads, wrap that **** up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭Davarus Walrus

Mostly listen to Newstalk. Yatesy in the morning, then Pat Kenny. Moncrieff most afternoons, and George Hook's show is pretty much the only one of the drivetime shows that I listen to these days.

Can't stand that hamster-faced bore, Ray D'Arcy. His middle-aged 'man of the people' schtick is really tedious. Fúcker thinks he has captured the zeitgeist amongst his listeners.

I can't stand the screechy voice of that wagon Joan first thing in the morning. She has single handedly ruined Nova for me. Good tunes during the day though.

    What a negative bunch!

On the positive, I like ian Dempsey in the morning then ray d,arcy, news at one and in the evening George hook and sometimes off the ball.

Beat FM, what counties do they cover? Never heard of them.

    Moncreiff should be on 24/7.

Also must say I enjoy pat kennys slot since he's moved over to newstalk, the show is a lot more fluid than his old one. For all the flack Pat Kenny gets he's a grade A broadcaster, especially in current affairs.

Hate: the new/old guy on 2fm form 16.30. Colm or JimJim or whichever one of them it is; 'You're not Matt Cooper so don't try to be, just play a @#$*ing song for the love of god!!!!'

Like: Newstalk in the morning, Yates and the other guy whose name nobody knows.

Love: Off the ball! Coming home from training I've about 20 miles to do and they're always good craic and informative. Fridays are the best though, when Wooly gets battered in the quiz and throws a bit of a hissy fit while the rest laugh at him!!

The rest... anything but Eye Radio... that Fergal Darcy is cruel! 'You're soooo sound.....' F*$ k off!

Newstalk all the way, Moncrieff, Jonathan Healy and Tom Dunne.

Ray Darcy is an absolute Mother Teresa goon.

I used to listen to FM104 all the time but when Adrian and Jeremy moved to 98FM, I also switched stations to listen to them.

Found myself listening to the shows on after them, so now 98FM's always on.

I listen to AK and JD 'cos it's just background chat but what irritates me is when AK allows people to talk over each other, then he's trying to speak but he can't get a word in.
Yet he controls the volume on each caller and won't lower them down.
So you've got a barrage of everyone talking.

AK also sounds like it's a struggle for him to speak..I mean literally..he sounds like a burst couch.

I don't find Jeremy a bit funny though, what's the point of him?
    Making lame jokes and innuendo..

Then when it's Get It Off Your Chest time, they DON'T let people get it off their chest because they've already concocted a subject for people to talk about, whereby Jeremy will pretend he's got this friend with this problem and asks what people think.

It then turns into a "real" discussion about it and the Get It Off Your Chest bit is lost completely.

Oh and another thing..Jeremy often plays a clip of a song or he'll sing a bit of a song and say "Who sings that? God I know but I can't think" and the song'll be something obvious like "Thriller" by MJ.
Adrian will also play thick and say "Oh God I don't know. Text us in everyone if you know the name of the song."

    Seriously?!
If you GENUINELY didn't know it, you'd Google it wouldn't you?
These are just lame attempts to get people to text in.

I think I'll listen to something else. I've annoyed myself now.

I'd pay good money to see the 3 sycophants who collectively **** him off taken out on shot in front of him live on air.
Oh my rage meter is off the scale, I need to go & lie down I'm so f*ckin' angry just thinking about him.

Another thing I will tell you is that they are very good for negatively exposing people for the scumbags that they are.

I was listening into Monday's Night show which I heard is a repeat at weeknights. They were covering the subject of pickpockets in Dublin City Centre. They was a guy ringing into the show (who I won't name) who pickpockets or takes people's iPhones, iPads, mobile phones or anything that takes his fancy for money as part of his living.

I don't know this guy who did them but he said something along the lines to AK & JD that he wouldn't care if people were crying on the street for taking their possessions just because it is an easy steal for him to get paid or if it was for his family. Every time the public were giving him grief, he was loving every minute of it like he hadn't a care in the world.

AK was speaking to him on 98FM saying he was a scumbag and he shouldn't be talking to people who take part in that scummy behavior to be on the radio. JD also said that he hated using this word but he said, to the guy doing the robberies, that he was "vermin".

Both AK & JD were extremely right to say that to him. Fair play to them for doing so.

That is the one thing I love about their show. It is great radio to listen over the airwaves. Well done lads.

I hope you know that the phoneshow often rings certain people to get their opinion on the radio and sometimes tells them how to ham it up?

I did a work experience stint at their former station and when a contraversial subject came up, the receptionist phoned someone to ask them if they wanted to come on the radio and to "wind people up", so not everything you hear is genuine.

Tony Kehoe on South East Radio for all your Country and Irish needs.

Rightly keeping the likes of Big Tom, Foster and Allen and others on the airwaves.

Only radio show I listen to anyway frequently is Tom Dunne on Newstalk.Good music, interviews decent guests and has a few interesting weekly segments (movies, comedy, tech, cocktails etc.)

Used to listen to Off The Ball, but the new crowd who replaced the Second Captains lads are woeful besides Ger Gilroy, who's competent enough but has no personality.

I'm not joking: nothing gets people more riled up than radio. Especially being forced to listen to a Foley or a D'Arcy type. Almost went postal having to listen to that dullard Colm Hayes everyday.

Spin South West is the biggest pile of $hite of a radio station.I remember switching over to it a year or two ago and they were talking about what type of toilet paper people used, with the usual numptys ringing in to tell their toilet stories.

I gave up on Irish radio.

Its podcasts and mp3s and converted youtube programs pretty much all the way now.

Dixon and Kennedy gave some great laughs on occasion but 104 sold them out.

Cant stand any more oh so whacky and yet supremely unfunny hosts.

Another reason I gave up was finding myself listening to reel after reel of shyty annoying corny repetitive ads and wondering why the fck am I tuning in to something that I dont even want to hear.

Then theres the banal middle of the road music.
