Punchestown Day 2

Really fancy Riviera Sun to go very close in the 6:05 bumper tomorrow. Watched it first time round at Navan with a chum and we both remarked that the horse just hated the ground that time. It won next time out at DownRoyal against a weaker field but better ground (I was at the course that day, don't believe the going report). Just read that the going at Punchestown is now declared good, so I think Riviera Sun should overturn Shaneshill (who beat it before) and should run the Weld horse very close.

btw - Ladbrokes are currently 16/1 for this with 1/4 the odds for the place.

Doing this as singles and a double with First Lieutenant who is a more clear cut decision.

i see that Derek O'Connor is booked to ride Jollyallan in the same race for Harry Fry, have they teamed up together before?

99% they haven't, O'Connor tends to only ride in Ireland and this is only the second time Harry Fry has had a runner in Ireland (Rock On Ruby raced here last year).

Highbrow Blue, Lyreen Legend & Silver Concorde.

These 3 should ensure I get myself out of the very nasty & dark little hole I got myself into today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 375 ✭✭Niallers87

thanks for that, i might keep an eye on him in the betting tomorrow!! i need a few winners after today!

Shaneshill 4/1 ew 1/4 odds with bet365 is a serious bet to nothing. I see no reason why he is 2 points bigger than silver concorde. Who got an absolute dream ride/run at Cheltenham.

    My selections for tomorrow
Beau Michael ew in the first - 40/1
Wounded Warrior in the next - 16/1
Boston bob and long run reverse forecast
I am pretty sure long run was run this season with a view to keeping weight down in the national..I'm expecting him to prove this tomorrow by beating an Over the top bunch of horses and a competing Boston bob

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,886 ✭✭✭MoscowFlyer

Boston Bob will love the ground but the run at Aintree has to be a concern. Think Ruby is on the wrong one.

Might back Boston Bob for next years Gold Cup before today. Always liked the horse.
    Speculative Slattsy Special.

    Awesome Alliteration.

Shocking price..25/1. I'd wait until they run him over 2m 4 for his first spin of the year next season as he will probably lose it..I'd see him in the frame next year and felt he was misplaced in the Ryanair (had a great argument with SRFC on this)
That aside b364 are really going out on a limb pricing UDS at 10-1 for the world .. That's sarcasm by them at their peak

Any opinions on Missunited today? Has the benefit of a run under her belt and conditions should be ideal for her. Get's a lot more weight from Tac de Boistron this time around and she didn't enjoy the best of passages in the French Leger to say the least. Only two places but happy to back her each way. If connections have aspirations at an Ascot Gold Cup tilt which they do, then she'd have to go close here to warrant considering that any further.

is the Paddy Power Gold Cup 2nd & 3rd Money Back Special apply to just online or shops too?

Know he doesn't win enough but given the good ground and average field, would be interested in First Lieutenant with such a special.

I've been looking at this race for the last hour or so, she's only only 7lb better terms for a near 6L loss to TDB in France and that alone won't be enough to reverse the order. Also bear in mind that TDB's preference is for soft ground and that win came on good. I'm currently stuck on the favourite Harris Tweed but might just give the race a miss.

Anyone else think Very Wood is over priced, don't think they was much fluke about his win at Chelt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,681 ✭✭✭BumperD

I think 4 or 5 horses won at cheltenham with headgear applied for the 1st time (very Wood included). Not sure it will have the same impact today but I wouldn't dare put you off him. He powered up the hill

Playing with the bookies' money from day one (always a treat!), here's where I'm giving it back:

Val De Ferbet, Beat That, First Lieutenant, Fine Article, Aupcharlie, Virtuoso Rouge

Thought a less demanding 3 miles would suit Apache Jack today. Doesn't seem to be much confidence in Very Wood betting wise which would worry me, on bare form he definitely looks overpriced though.

Flatfootboogie in the first 20-1 excellent ew price:)

getting ready to work at the track in a couple of hours. won a little last night, the bumper result was no good for us layers.

today you can have what you want with me on apache jack, lyreen legend, jollyallan grandioso and fletchers flyer. I will be top price on the track on these no hopers.

martin baker who owns Riviera sun says it is running for the crack and they don't fancy it at all, Derek o connor from whom he bought that horse has told him that he has been told his two bumper rides will struggle on the ground today.

Feel really sorry that Seamie Hefferenan, the jockey that has rode him to many a good day on the flats aint getting the mount. Why? Weights? Hughes never rode her.

Sticking with Simenon, bit worried about the ground, though he ran well at York. Has race fitness in Grade 1's though last 2 runs were not great (well he had a horrible draw in the last few) Moore knows him, and he is reliable at Ascot. Race fitness being key.

I wouldnt be taking 6/5 3 places about a bumper horse in a hot race, but for a win only bet I honestly cant understand how Shanehill is 11/2. It's actually worrying me a little. Silver Concorde's Irish form is hardly that inspiring

Different strokes I guess I just see no reason why he won't finish in the first 3. I actually took 5s there this morning with Ladbrokes. 5/4 was quite fair I thought. Bet365 were taking feck all on it when I went to place the bet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

Got my max (restricted so not much) with both 888 and Unibet there at 11/2 to win so happy enough with that. Silly price imo but we'll see what he starts at

Just a note to point out that Riviera Sunset is 40/1 with BetBright (Best Odds NOT Guaranteed but will it be bigger than 33s?)

Anybody watch the 2.00 @Ascot had the 2nd the winner carried it half way across the track fcking no luck at all lately!!

Just the one bet for me today and that's Grandioso in the handicap chase. Showed some very smart form last year culminating in a grade 2 win at Kempton.

Had some good performances this year too including a fine third to Cantlow and Easter meteor at Newbury on his seasonal debut off todays mark of 145. His next run at Cheltenham can probably be overlooked as it was too bad to be true, It might be worth noting that his only previous run at Cheltenham was below par as well.

He made up for that run with a great second to Bury parade at ascot travelling like the best horse in the race for much of the way only just being outstayed on the heavy ground over a trip of 22f. His next race at Kempton can be excused as he looked a non stayer over 3m.

Today he should have his optimum conditions and to me looks the best horse in the race, I think he has a great shout at a nice price of 8/1 and I've had a sizeable bet on him.

Without overly studying the race too much as I'm not a big flat fan I'd give Missunited a good chance in this actually purely on the trainers motives. Mick Winters is very good at aiming/plotting his horses to win where they maximize prize money when others aren't fully fit. I don't really see Missunited winning an Ascot Gold Cup but this could be her race to pocket €40k for the owners at a nice price.

At Punchestown I think Silver Concorde is a good thing in the bumper 7/4 is a bit short but I'd expect it to shorten in the ring and I've backed First Lieutenant more in hope than anything else. Surely to jaysus he can win one good race.

Easy as you like for TDB.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,657 ✭✭✭brandon_flowers

Very easy indeed, Missunited emptied at the furlong pole. Frankie's first winner at Ascot for 23 months.

Yeah, I left the race alone in the end. In hindsight TDB was always going to be fairly ripe for today as there's no guarantee of him getting his ideal conditions again as we come into the summer proper

Marked 3 winners yesterday without betting anything so decided to have a rattle today.
    Cheltanian
    Boston Bob
    Beat That
    Fletchers Flyer
In a small 1€ Yankee for interest.

The guy who rode the first winner at Punchestown, was he in that RACE documentary on Setanta a few years ago with Lee Roche?

Was going to back Le Vent D'Antan, but he shortened from 9-2 to 7-2 in 2 minutes.

Thing Carraig Mor is a bit of value at 6-1, just depends which horse turns up.

Welds horse won last race last night by 13 lenghts and he said in interview the horse was not even near silver concorde working at home and ability ?? If trainer that confident might not be a bad bet at 7/4 ?
