Same problem here. Did a quick search on the Eircom website forum & found this:
No problem, this indicates that security questions may not have been set up on this when initially activated. To get this reset you will need to call Eircom Technical Support on 1890 260 260 if you are an Eircom Broadband Customer. If you are not an Eircom customer the number to call is 1530 277 100. They will set up new security questions which will then allow you to reset password.

Edited to add that I'm no longer an Eircom customer. I set up my email address around 20 years ago & use it for everything. It would have been helpful if Eircom could have given some advance warning.

Am currently on hold to Eircom 33c per minute

Edited again to add that I started the call to the Eircom 1530 number at 8.09pm. A recorded voice told me that my wait time would be 5 mins. Guess who's still on hold? This is nothing short of a money-making racket. Am going to hang up now, but I sincerely hope that one of the Eircom reps on Boards will be able to sort me out tomorrow.

As soon as we have more information we will post here. Apologies for this interruption in service.

This is now getting serious. I cannot access my email since yesterday morning.
One of the main providers and not able to restore the service.

I am really very angry that we do not get constant updates.

Eircom ! can you please explain what is going on.

pity we had to go searching high and low for this message from eircom.  considering the size of the eircom network and the amount of people having eircom email accounts, a radio/news announcement should have been launched.  wasted hours trying to access my email accounts.

Is there any lessons that us subscribers can learn from this? Is it technically possible to receive an email sent to an eircom.net address also to a secondary address eg live.ie etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭jamesbil

It tells me to contact Technical Support with a link to that page which has no contact number other than the general 1901

we could probably use google as a server with the same address. this should also prevent security issues, I have had my .net mail hacked twice and used to send thousands of spam emails.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 662 ✭✭✭jamesbil

the problem is most of us will have tried to enter what we thought to be our user name and password and probably blocked access, now if we are not an eircom customer we will have to call the premium number and be put on hold for ages running up a huge bill...

Any chance eircom can give us a free number to call? or do it via pm?

Yes, I know there is an issue, that was why I started the thread.

    Still not back yet.

Roll out this morning... how long more? No mail since yesterday afternoon.....

It seems like there is some sort of issue with eircom email about every 6 months. Your network contingency planning is quite frankly shocking and it is evident that there are no backup servers. The only difference with this outage is that you appear to have acknowledged that there is a major issue. In the past its taken thread ping pong before you have realised there is a problem.

I still cannot access my Eircom account using MS Outlook.

I logged on to the Eircom webmail site and I cannot access my email account there either.

Mine is still out, since last night. Very poor notification from Eircom on their site, no explanation, nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,610 ✭✭✭eastwest

Once this is sorted, I think it will be time to get over my stupid loyalty to Eircom for everything. Paying thru the nose for phone line, non existent broadband and an email service that is unreliable and not accessible from abroad or on mobile devices.
I need to review all this stuff at the earliest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭finbarrk

Mine not working either. Come on Eircom ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 139 ✭✭Sean9015

Well, 40 minutes left of the morning and still no e-mail.  However forum on eircom website now says :

"Support teams have restored service to some customers. Users will notice that the appearance of your webmail tool will have changed. This is temporary condition and full service will be returned when full fix has been implemented.

Work will continue throughout the day in a phased manner to fully restore service for all remaining affected customers.

At the moment we do not have an estimated full restoration time."

Don't suppose those of us paying through the nose for this will get a refund.......

    To our customers

    Re webmail issue

As a result of fix rolled out this morning some customers are now able to access their webmail account.

Please note those customers who can now access their account will NOT receive any new mails until approximately after 12.00 noon.

As access to webmail accounts is restored progressively throughout the day you will experience delays in receiving new mails due to the backlog of mails currently in the system.

It may take a number of hours after full service has been restored for these backlogged mails to be delivered.

    Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /Email/login.htm.

Reason: Error reading from remote server
