as a lot of us are aware there's been some resistence to the installation of water meters across the country recently and it seems to be spreading.

are you going to join in when denis o briens boys call to your estate to fit water meters you never asked for?

Pay for water or pay through extra tax.Pay you will.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭Uriel.

No I won't join in and with a bit of luck anyone interfering will be arrested, or failing that will not have a meter installed and will be fixed a substantial standing charge instead.

yes they will not enter unless they can pacify my security personell, which i doubt, funnily enough i remember drawing water for the house, for both cooking and drinking, i paid to have one of my supplies installed, the other supply i recieved from a kind neighbour, who over turned the request from his boss who refused me in writing.

We already pay the extra tax, and have done so for years. What have to pay for now is SCAMA etc.

Was not in their election campaign to install water meters and start charging for water directly.

The Troike brought in water charges,no government would ever have done it.

I propose a tax on KY jelly.

Lot of posters seem happy to bend over and just take it up the rear. You're already paying for your water each time you are taxed on your income, and the vat increases we have been subjected to.

    80odd million on consultants.
2000 staff, not only not needed, but contracted for the next twelve years.

Give me a fcuking break please.

Jobs for the boys ****. Same old same old.

You've been talking it up the rear a long time, you'll continue to, and you'll like it.
Fiasco Phil and his cronies are still horny, and they'll remain horny for some time to come.

Better still the private company gets to claim for delays from the taxpayer to screw us even more.

no it's to show the boys that the people will resist the meters. the labourers are their own worst enemies at times. there's videos and photos doing the rounds showing what the "innocent" labourers think of people exercising their rights to resist the water meters

We met their targets and left the bail out without the need for charges on water ? I don't see the logic of sticking to an agreement that is no longer needed. What can the Troika do ? Nothing (Am not apposed to charges) just stating facts

The tax payers are starting to show their discontent.

The local elections will be remembered as the water charge referendum. Lab face annihilation, FG have seen their support decimated to a mere point above FF. That's some achievement in fairness.

Remember a tax on childrens shoes brought down FG/Lab before.

Can I get a gold watch too? I pay taxes, surely I am entitled to a gold watch?

Irrespective of the economic circumstances a water charge on per use basis makes perfect sense and I support it. We need to move further away from general taxation.

True. We really should have voted in that other party. You know, the one that said they'd cut taxes and increase services.

It's time for all Irish citizens to get out there and use their right to protest against another secondary forced tax. Show these government scumbags a massive repulsion to this unjust secondary tax. The bastards will get the picture if enough folk protest.

Sit back and do nothing and be out of pocket again and again, what will they bring in next if they see us all lay back and take it.

My car is parked over the water-hole and will stay there. Any crap from them and I'll stand and sleep in the fecking hole till they go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,797 ✭✭✭✭hatrickpatrick

To those who get water from private wells, you realize you'll still be charged a fixed standing charge even if you never use a drop of water from Irish Water?

How can this possibly not piss you off?

As a free son of Hibernia, I do not recognise the authority of water meters to calculate water usage.

Well had a budget deficit of what, €11 billion last year.
If you have a major plan to fix things, please tell.

The Government has already signaled some downward adjustments in tax this year. Maybe we are starting the move. Who knows.

The 3 out of four houses that will not be metered when this rolls out, and Prob for the next 2/3 years will be paying on a per usage basis?

OK....... Let me know how that one works?

Rolls out being the important phrase. To expect a 100% hit rate at the stroke of midnight on a given date is stupid.

We've the only socialists in Europe who oppose water charges. Funny old business. It's the usual 'world-class services, but I don't want to pay for them' spiel that seems to be the mantra of a certain proportion of the electorate. The 'Gubberment' should have invested in magic beans to grow money trees.

One out of every four households will have a meter installed by the time Irish Water start billing homeowners.

I'll repeat. One out of every four. How the hell can you say with a straight face that people will be charged for what they use:confused:

Maybe Eircom should start charging 3/4 of its customers an estimated bill too without knowing what destinations the customer has been calling, or for the duration of a call.

    Seriously.

so what you're saying is that people won't be charged on per use basis?
Does your 3 out of 4 figure relate to all households or just those on the public mains?
Your Eircom example is not at all comparable.

I am not really sure what you want? You're not happy about paying water charges, I get that.

Most countries in the world pay for water, either through a meter, or a system based on estimated usage - which can be challenged as soon as a meter is installed

You've had your free water for years, stop complaining
