What's the craziest realization you've ever had?

Here's a couple that got me thinking:

You think faster than you think you can think.

History isn't really history, it's just your interpretation of someone else's interpretation.

I’m an adult now and it turns out we are all just as confused as the kids.

"I often try to remember my first moment of consciousness and I believe it was when I was 7. I remember distinctly thinking, "I am here and in control." Everything before that was a blur of random action without thinking of the consequence and not feeling guilt. I didn't care about making friends up until that point either. I would just wander around on my own. Weird."

I got a letter in the post this week with details of my private pension. At the top was my retirement date, 2042. I then thought of all the hours of work there is between now and then.. if I make it that far :(

Not exactly crazy but... My oh and I just turned 30 and 25 respectively. We both finally realised that we should be growing up a bit more and we need to start making plan for the future, we've lived the high life for the best part of 5 years but just realised we'll never have the money for a wedding, house, children plus holidays and a nice life if we don't start "maturing". Was a bit of a kick in thr arse for us both as we've both gone through life not seriously thinking about these things. We've given ourselves 5 years to save and do all of the above.... Wish me luck ye feckers!

You mean the existence of the planet to date, right? Or do you know something about the apocalypse? :)

When people say "he was going ape-****", it's just a funnier way to say "he was going bananas", because ape - **** presumably smells of bananas.

The first time I saw an interactive graphic of the identified universe and how absolutely tiny we are. Zoomed out to fit a 21" monitor we aren't even 1 pixel anymore.

I think about it whenever I'm stressed/annoyed/sad and instead of making me feel lonely/insignificant it just makes everything else seem like a drop in an infinitely large ocean.

Even typing that out relaxed me.

In a universe of infinite possibilities, we are sitting here posting to this thread on boards, an infinite number of times.

Also, in approx 5 million years, the planet is going to overheat and explode, so nothing really matters, really..

I once wasted a lot of a weekend in my cousins' house when I was quite young playing some football game on the Sega Mega Drive. I won the world cup with Ireland after many, many attempts.
At the time I wondered why my Irish team was all black lads. I put it down to some strange, overlooked error in the game.....

Years later my mind, for some reason, wandered back to that weekend, and I realised I had been playing as the Ivory Coast.

That we all actually exist. Or maybe that I am dreaming all of this. Or that we're all sharing the same dream.

We exist man! Me - the guy in my head, I exist in this huge, huge, huge universe, bigger than I can even fathom.

This thought comes to me every so often and makes my stomach flutter a little. Then I go back to my life.

I don't know how people walk around with little to no imagination.
    My imagination is me.

As a previous poster said it was like as kid I was suddenly just became aware or control at 4 years old, and this seemed to wax and wane, drop in and out until I was fully turned on at age 7 or so and still am

Yet its those moments in between that feel like I WAS dreaming and were I was almost downloading instruction manual for the life ahead in terms of what I was reading, watching, hearing. I loved nature and space/dinosaurs as a kid and those memories feel like me at my truest/strongest, even today years later. I still feel like a child when I talk about those things, despite the fact they're other things I love since. Its a pure, good sort of feeling

Faith is believing despite all the evidence to the contary. Saying I believe despite the fact there is ZERO proof. I'm ok with that, if people are honest and keep it private, but realise how tenuous it is.

Hope is the more true, useful, necessary form of the emotion. I hate how people have perverted the use of the word "hope" as well.

I spend half my time thinking this and the other half thinking that we are not directing the thought processes in the present but we can influence the future ones. It's a toughie alright.

That insects are born, eat, sht, breath, mate, fight, seek out food, operate in a little society, die.

They may even be top of the local food chain. King of their environment.

And they can do this in some distant jungle without ever encountering a human.

Or may even encounter a human yet they're several levels of cognition below ever recognizing or perceiving what it is.
