    Hi guys

    Male, 29, 6'2, 12 stone 5

Just hoping to lose the small bulge on my lower tummy/gut before a holiday next month.

Plan on cutting out booze/bread/chocolate for the next 3 weeks.

Fairly active but work out time is at a minimum with my new job so any dietary tips would be greatly appreciated!

    :)

    Cheers

well, the roughest outline is that you need 2000 (ish) calories a day

so the roughest rule of thumb is get less and you lose fat, get more and you gain fat

You don't have to cut those things but it helps as they can have a high amount of calories.

look at the calorie numbers on the products you are going to eat and work it out.

3 weeks probably isn't enough time to make a big impact on your shape without possibly damaging yourself

As for exercise, the one which I have found to use the most calories is running. A 10k run recent did around 700 calories. A recent 14k run did around 1000 calories.

That's awesome. Thanks for the response.

As I said, time is at a minimum but I plan on walking to work from here on in 5 days a week (about 8km in total to and from work) instead of bus.

Im probably about a stone under weight as it is, for my height, but as I say, its just the small gut Im trying to rid of

Posture could contribute to it too. Lordosis (swayback) leads to your belly sticking out more. Can be improved by certain exercises/stretching.
See here for photos illustrating what I mean (sorry - too new to post links - delete the extra spaces):

Some food for thought there :)

Honestly think it's an accumulation of beer and bread though, so hopefully eliminating them completely will help!

There's a theory that the reason people are overweight, and the reason lots of people in great shape can never lose the last few pounds of bodyfat is because the pH balance of their blood is too acidic. Long story short, you to need to consume LOTS of alkaline produce to balance this out and lose the bodyfat. Here's a quick video.

Will this sort me out in less than 3 weeks? :-)

Would exercise not be the way to go? Do a sit up challenge? Or an ab and tone class at 6ft 2 and 12 stone 5 you are well within your healthy BMI, I wouldn't recommend making major changes to your diet.

Exercise will tone up but there is no miracle quick fix here. You will get out of it as much as you put in, I'm sure you will see an improvement in 3 weeks if you exercise but not as much as you'd hope. Taking up regular exercise usually takes 2 months to show significant results.

I understand with work it's hard to fit workouts in, try a work out dvd you can do at home, there's some great intense work out dvd that only last 30minutes.

I love doing sit ups but have stopped doing them the past 6 or so months as I was under the impression they don't actually help in the gut area?

Do they actually help reduce fat in the belly area and how many a day do you recommend?

The only thing that gets rid of fat is consuming less calories than you need. There is no magic anti stomach fat exercise. What sit-ups do is tone the muscles under the fat so they will be more visible if you loose the fat. They will also burn a few calories.

Everything Nonoperational has said is true. Although I would argue if you need to lose weight, given your details your BMI is 22.2 and given Normal/Healthly Weight BMI range is 18.5–24.9, I can't imagine you have weight to lose?

High intenstity workouts will burn calories and will help. You need to be continuing to tone your stomach by working the ab muscles out either by sit ups or other wise. Get a calorie tracker app, I recommend My Fitness Pal and track what you eat.

My understanding of it is that your body holds on to more fat cells the more acidic your blood is. So if your blood is highly acidic, your body is going to try to hold on to its body fat. If you alkalise your blood by eating highly alkaline food, you will balance out your pH and your body will stop trying to hold on to your fat. I gather that the results are very fast, e.g. if you eat nothing but highly alkaline foods for a few days (e.g. lots and lots of greens) you will see results within the first week. And it's not about eating less, it's about eating lots and lots of alkaline foods to balance out the acidity of your blood.

I gather that it's scientific fact, but I could be wrong. Check that out yourself and reach your own conclusion.

Cardio is sh1te for weightloss, you need HIIT/metcons or strength work. At your weight and height you probably should focus on strength training. Do that before you worry about eating batteries.

Cardio is perfectly acceptable for weightloss, after all its calories in vs calories out that makes the difference. Whether that is through HIIT or otherwise,it makes little to no difference what he does.

3 weeks of strength training however is going to do sweet fook all for the belly fat.

Sorry would have to disagree with you there.

I have been on a strength training program combined with dietary plan for the past 4 weeks. I have lost 4 inches off my waist put on 2 inches on my chest and toned up all over. I have also lost one and a half stone. This is 30 minutes 3 times a week intensive strength training. I also walk on my off days to allow the body to rest.

No, cardio is sh1te for weightloss. Dieting and cardio has no real extra benefit, not for the work put in. Strength training with dieting can result in 40% more fat loss - thats fat loss, not fat+muscle loss that you'll see with dieting + cardio.
