9am. Meet under the Luas Bridge opposite Joe Daly's as before, 2 hour odd spin.
Slow pace........at the top of hills we will wait for slower cyclists!

Just saying this for anyone worried that the above mentioned pace would be too fast for them and would be put off coming. In my opinion they wont get close to 50km in 2 hours. They wont even get 40km.
Luas bridge to enniskerry veg shop is about 12km and its an underated drag but the fastest way out of Dublin. They wont get close to doing that at 25. If they turn right there or anywhere before that, the pace will be right down.
Since its a controlled slow pace with waiting for people on the hills, in two hours they wont be far past Glencree if they go that route, or the viewpoint carpark if they turn up towards johnny foxes.

Anyway best of luck with it. Its a great idea. Unfortunately I cant make it.

what time is the planned departure?

    Read 1st. post please.
This won't be a Time Trial. I'm going up Burrow Road from Dundrum, Johnny Foxes, over to Viewing Point and back down. About 40k. or something.

I haven't been on the bike for about 3 months so lets not talk speed or A4 training.
Most of the guys know the route.
Please...........only post if you can attend.
    Cheers.

If people stopped talking about pace, speed, average speed, distance, blah blah blah, it might encourage a few beginners to participate.
    We might go somewhere else........

Would be real keen on this but 26th is wife's birthday.. Only live up the road from Luas bridge too so would have been perfect. Let's see how mood is with her during week and I will know where I stand:D

Wouldn't mind coming, been cycling full time for the past year. It'd be my first with other boardsies. Only have an MTB and no proper cycling kit as of yet if that's alright - waiting for my jersey though.

Depending on how many are heading up to SG I might join them and stop for a pint on the way back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 470 ✭✭Zen0

Hope to make this, but it will depend on domestic commitments, particularly as I'll be gone a full day the following weekend for the Orwell Randonnee. Be nice to put a face on some of the names.

Don't have the new rather yet but these would suit me; I'm not as fit as I was. Wouldn't mind going on the next one.

You've a nice route planned too.

No fitness required. I plan to admire the hedgerow and birds.

There should be an element of "Spring Classics" riders but hey, hang back and take in the views.
    :)

I plan on bringing my gloriously comfortable 35mm tyres on my touring bike, so I'll have plenty of viewing time on the uphills.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,034 Mod ✭✭✭✭Planet X

Tempted to bring the 47's on my touring bike!!!!

A bit of bad weather and the excuses start flying. HTFU folks, its only a short spin.

Asking me to make it on one wheel might be doable (if I were Danny MacAskill) asking me to do any length of spin on the front (non drive) wheel is a bit much.

Might do myself, depending on how bad the weather gets.

Might take the spin over the gap to Laragh for some cake and back, though my pace would be slow company for most. Possibly pissing with rain and blustery, but so it goes. The difficult bit will be getting out of the scratcher to be in Dundrum for 9, once that inertia has been overcome, I'll probably keep moving ;)

if its as windy as meant to be i wouldnt advise it.

Ah here godtabh, no need to scare everyone away. By the time anyone gets up to the exposed Featherbeds they'll have a good idea of how gusty/windy it is and they'll figure out for themselves if going to Laragh is a good idea or not. It's not like people are commiting to a blood oath by suggesting going up to the Sally Gap now is it :P

That said, I'll continue onto either Laragh or Kilbride if the weather suits.
