You might get hit by an uninsured Setanta driver.

As it has collapsed, does it mean anyone with that has car insurance with them is now void?

I am insured with this crowd via a broker

The broker said that I am now going to have to pay up the remainder of my policy which doesnt run out until December before I can get a new policy.

At present i am paying by direct debit.

    Is this right?

That sounds a tad strange in my opinion. I'd be putting a stop to the DD quite soon if it was me.

Why would you have to pay for a policy that no longer exists and a service they no longer provide? Get looking for new insurance asap and cancel any DD related to this.

No as the service is no longer available. The broker is chancing his arm. If the company is gone from today the service has stopped today no further payment necessary.

Car insured with them via broker until September. Called broker they said I need to get new insurance. Found out that setanta was bought out last year so why doesn't parent company take responsibility? Also never knew setants was not recognised by central bank as being legit. Last time I use my broker.

Were you paying direct debit and if so did you have to pay the outstanding balance?

    Cheapest is not always best!

How many times have we seen this before, a new Insurer enter the Market at ridiculously low rates.

They undercut the established Insurers by hundreds of euro , only a few years later they go out of business.

    Will people ever learn?

    Probably not !

It's not that simple. Setamta have been around for a few years now and many of the insurance companies won't insure vans - then the small amount who do charge almost double. Will people ever find away down off their high horse?

And yes I'm affected by this and in the humour for an argument ;)

When will people who judge me for going for cheaper learn it's all I can afford, If I could afford better then I'd have it.

I am with setanta through a broker.

My policy is up in 2 weeks. Quick call to the broker (after a half hour holding) and I am switched over to somebody else.

I got very lucky tbh that my policy was up so soon. Feel sorry for any folks stung worse.

I was with Setanta until some time in Feb. Broker sent me a ridiculous letter saying I should stay with Setanta and pay €590 for the pleasure of doing so. Stuff that, shopped around, got a quote of €390 with Axa so went with them. Am a pay in full kinda guy so did that. Broker got back to me in a fluster saying quote was wrong, should have been much, much less and reconsider. I said that's SFA use to me now is it, letter should have been right coming out to me and I was going to stay with Axa as I didn't think broker was doing SFA in MY interests. I was happy with the decision that day but I am very, very, very happy with my decision today.

I was going to ask the same question, shouldn't they be responsible as they are the ones who acquire the cover for the client?

Thought there was a reserve in place for this sort of thing.

as the brokers often manage to get better deals...
iv just signed up to allianz through the AA, 100 euro in the "best offer" difference v allianz on their own, and that was before i added business use and step back (which somehow lowered it further :) )
thank flip i hadnt head of setanta although dad has got stung and only 2 months into his policy

cmac8 of course tell them to shove it, they have broken their end of the contract first... if anyone owes anyone money its not you!

Yeah right, sounds more like time to get a new broker, and cancel the DD.

I used to be with them until the premiums started creeping up a couple of years ago. Allah be praised.

I wish you and everyone else in this $hit (of someone else's making) well

Every year I look at the numerous websites, the price comparison sites, call the regular guys, tell them what my renewal quote from a broker is and ask for the same deal, fully comp, no claims protection, breakdown assist. And every year so far the broker's renewal has come in at least 70 euro cheaper for the same level of cover. Same excess etc.

The second that an alternative company offers me a better deal I'll jump at it. And I'll keep checking until they do. But as yet they have not. Brokers also have some wiggle room that I never seem to get with the bigger call centre type places. So for me the reason I bother to go with them is just because they're cheaper.
