    Hi all
i recently went seeking one of these bumper deals you get from the butcher, eg pay 20euro for a good few chicken fillets, steak and turkey mince, I tried the butchers down by Moore St but no deal.

anyone know of a butchers in town doing such a deal, or just a great deal on chicken breasts

One on the Cabra Road near the church in Phibsboro that do one for 20. 5 fillets, 1lb of steak or turkey mince, huge sirloin and 20 eggs. Its decent enough value I suppose.

    20 fillets for 20 euro.

    That's my staple.

Place on Parnell street used to do it.

Mind you the fillets are usually no larger than the palm of your hand.

Depends on the chicken really. A lot of what I've seen around lately has very little use other than the breasts and that's been a few different butchers in D15.

Donore Meats on Donore Avenue and C&C Family Butchers in Fatima too.

    Donore is €50:
20 chicken fillets, 1lb Sirloin steak, 4 fillet steaks, 2 striploin, 2lb turkey mince and a tray of eggs.

    C&C is €30:
14 chicken fillets, 2lb Sirloin steak, 1lb turkey mince and a tray of eggs.

I find breasts bought seperate turn into near nugget sized pieces when cooked.
    Whole chicken @5 euro.
2 huge breasts. Enough chicken leftover to make a huge chicken omellette and a decent chicken curry.
If you were to just eat chicken youd be sorted proteinwise on a 5er a day.

Meat Outlet does 25 fillets for €20. They're 100-120g so not the biggest. But it's still working out at a minimum of 500g chicken (about 150g of protein) a day for 5 days. Ungh!

Courtney foods do 5 very large chicken breasts for a fiver, and they don't shrink! They've a few outlets, I go to the one near the KCR (kimmage) there's one in Cookstown industrial estate and one on Meath Street. Actually get all my meat there, quality is good and very reasonable

This is where I go as well and agree with the comments about quality and price. I remember seeing a 'protein deal' advertised on the door of their KCR outlet but can't remember what was in it.

Chances are they were injected with water to make them look bigger.

Doyle's butchers in Frascati do 5 turkey breasts, 10 chicken breasts (or 6 free range breasts with the same weight), 2 decent sized sirloin steaks and 20 free range eggs for €25. Nice place and good quality but make sure to get the furthest expiration dated stuff, especially with the chicken as never as nice out of the freezer.

F.X Buckley do a protein pack for €40...

    20 chicken fillets
2lb turkey breast (minced or whole)
    2lb steak
    20 eggs

add 2lb lean mince for €7.99

i find the quality of their meat to always be excellent

Buy it based on the weight like whey.

    20 fillets can be 2kg or 5kg.

I pay £19 for a 5kg tray and they are good.

The same trays must be down south and I'd expect to pay €25 or so for 5kg.

Sorry for the bump but looking to start getting one of these packs as I no longer need to use weight gainer as I have time to make food now as I'm not working as much.

Apart from fatty mince (which is dirt cheap) I wouldn't really see meat as a replacement for a weight gainer. In fact, based on personal experience, if someone wanted to stave off hunger while on a cut I'd recommend eating a very large quantity of meat - try eating 1000kcal of chicken fillets in a sitting and you'll see what I mean. Best weight gainer I've found is those 1kg tubs of "natural" peanut butter you find in health shops. You could cook with a large quantity of healthy fats in your meals as this lets you get the kcals in without the psychological disadvantage of facing up to a food mountain every time you have dinner.

That said, they might just have been getting very little on board and used supplements to make up kcals.

Hard to know but you're right in saying that it's oh-so-hard to eat mountains of meat. My PR is 2kg and I pretty much forewent everything else that day.

Still sounds like a great deal. Any idea of weight? 2kg?

Can't this weekend but will be making my way to Courtneys next weekend. Been checking out their prices and reviews and looks top.

5 chicken fillets (~800g) for a fiver makes it €20 for 3+ kg of chicken.
