Do you want a Vanilla Map reset?

    Since so many of you took a notion and ran with it despite the fact that no one actually said it was happening, it would suggest to me that there's a desire to reset the vanilla world (it also allows an opportunity to patch up to 1.7.8 maybe?).

    I think we can all agree that we'd rather not have an amplified map, but it was fun to play on for a change.

    Is it time to reset the vanilla map? 14 votes

    I voted yes, and yeah let's definitely not do amplified again. I guess we had to try it out once, but once is enough. It makes so much of the map un-usable for pretty much anything.

    Also when we do the reset, can we use a seed where there's a good few different biomes within easy reach? I'd be happy to test a few out if nobody else wants to

    Yeah no kidding! I'm pretty certain Rachel Ann, Rashers, Oni, Doddly, Welchy and me all definitely want the reset, but there's only three votes for it :pac:

    I might also suggest a new map have a Spawn Town like there was on an earlier map. This time there is some amazing construction going on, way out in the middle of nowhere where no-one knows it's happening. :cool:

    There are usually spawn towns, not like a pre-generated village, but most of the time, that a new map is put up, people tend to set up quite close together. The amplified map this time kinda messed that up

    The other issue(s) is that larger projects sometimes upset the neighbours and competition for resources tends to limit the scope of spawn builds :/ These factors have a habit of inevitably driving people away from spawn even on a normal Bukkit server :o

    Yea, it was way too difficult to build a spawn town on the amplified map, combined with a lack of Lockette to be able to keep stuff safely stashed meant everyone was sorta quick to separate on this map. I'd suggest that if no one was acting the muppet, that's a much reduced concern..

    Well since we've seen a good few more "Yes" additions, shall we pick a reset date?

    Yea, something random, don't tell anyone what it is :D Also, check that it's a sorta daycent spawning area in terms of starting resources - trees mostly I guess to begin.

    Just saw this thread. I voted no because my build is not finished, but if the people want a reset then I say give it to them. I am but a lowly newcomer after all.

    So how long did that server last? I hope the next one is up for longer because it doesn't look like much got built on the current one.

    Pompous: Quite a lot got built on the other map if you look at the dynmap, but the amplified did mean most of it was spread out, unlike most of the old maps. Why don't you finish it off tonight/tomorrow and take lots of pics? :P

    Morag: Won't know until tomorrow, gotta check plugin compatibility etc. Could very well be the same version it is right now...or somewhere else in the region of 1.7.2-onwards.

    Yeah I thought the amplification had something to do with alright. I made it into a big spire. It's not worth taking pics of, but at least it's not unfinished. I'm happy enough to start a new map. What is the dynmap link for this 'other map'?

    Yeah it would have taken forever. Especially at the rate I design things. I just made it into a big ugly spire instead. It may be ugly but at least it's something.

    New map now up. Version is 1.7.2 - same as previous map, because of plugin compatibility. Should work with clients up to 1.7.5 ;)

    Hi - just wanted to confirm that when the server is reset to a new version a new map/world is generated as well? So anything that we have been working on is gone and we start from scratch?

    I know the old worlds are then available on the legacy server - but the idea is that with each server reset, we all start again?

    Yep, it's back to square one with a new map. This thread is actually referring to last time there was a reset though. I don't think anybody wants to reset the current server any time soon.

    Yeah, was thinking that when I saw the post above mine saying it was set to 172 - but I wanted to get an idea of how much to invest before the next reset. I'm thinking that will a while if there are plugin dependencies.

    If a patch comes out where the changes are not to world gen, then a map reset is not necessary.

    Usually, with how slow the patches come out, people tend to want a map reset at the same time, but it is not always necessary at all.

    I don't think anybody wants to reset the current server any time soon.

    This. The server is still in very early days. Half of the regulars are actually new players and people are joining all the time.

    The next reset should be a long way off. You shouldn't be worried about how much to invest before it happens. When the question arises, you will have fair say in the matter.

    I only joined a month before the last reset though, so this is all just my opinion/what I have gathered since then.

    The server will most likely be reset after 1.8. Once the essential plugins for running the server have been updated.

    This is not guaranteed, as it will still be up to a vote, but considering so much has been changed to world gen (terrain style, extra blocks on generation) it would be very likely that people would want a reset. It would be highly unlikely that the current map would be kept, as the map is already quite large, and due to changes in villager trades amongst other things in 1.8, the original map would be completely different to an expanded area.
