With the season over it's hard to only have to look back a short time ago to see us playing well and winning trophies.

Nostalgia can be a dangerous thing but lets try and remember the good times to get us through the tough ones...

Stumbled across Sky Sport Deutschland and they just after playing "This is the moment" with slow mo video of last nights match with Bayern ... ah when Evra scored that exceptional goal the momentary joy on the players/manager/fans faces :( - hard to watch now.

Liverpool are about as good in attack as they can possibly be this season. Defence is their biggest worry next season and I can't see the players coming in to improve that sufficiently. United will have the players to do it, it will all come down to how well Moyes handles them

Sorry mate but I think this comes under wishful thinking more than any kind of logic. You're basically saying Liverpool can't sign anyone that could improve them while United can. Doesn't make any sense really. Especially as nobody knows who will arrive at the various clubs or how well a manager can integrate them. The latter might even be more important than the former.

I don't think Liverpool are going to be at the same level next season. Teams are going to be a lot more defensive against them and the defensive frailty will have to be fixed, can't see Rodgers getting rid of Skrtel and Agger, Sakho might improve but you never know with these things. It's pretty much at optimum level going forward wouldn't you agree? Liverpool can improve in midfield but the risk is buying the defensive player there that's needed might slow down the attack.

United are going to have younger, more driven players with a manager who'll hopefully finally know his best group of players and the massive holes at CM and LB will be plugged. These are responsible for 90% of the bad results this season imo and while obviously it's not just going to be all sunshine and rainbows I don't see anyway United won't be at least 10 points better off this time next season.

Since the last thread closed I couldnt reply, someone said the reason Reus should move to United is that Dortmund arent going to be winning the league, I used Totti as a example to show that this isnt always the case.
Im not sure how ye didnt understand what I was saying

So I found this site that lets you mock-up T-Shirts with images on them. This type of print/large picture t-shirts are pretty popular at the moment, so I had a go at making a Manchester United line of Tees, some of them came out pretty cool:

No, you said something along the lines of "someone should tell Totti that playing for your boyhood team means nothing"
    Nobody was saying otherwise.

But srsly. Yesterday is heartbreaking. Evra's goal is a goal worthy of winning a match. When it went in it reminded me of Scholes v Barca in 08 :(

I was furious at the Madrid game last season but just deflated after the one yesterday. Literally as soon as everyone started really believing it was crushed.

    .

Why cant teams defend against them this season. They try every week and fail. And magically they will be able to next season ?

No the reason for Reus to move to United was Dortmund wont be challenging for the league even if he is playing for his boyhood team.
I used Totti as a example as he turned down most of the big boys to stay with Roma his boyhood team.
The comment had suggested playing for Dortmund his boyhood team meant nothing which is nonsense talk and winning leagues is all that counts

It means nothing quite a lot of the time. John terry, Ole, Carragher, Rooney etc..

Then theres robbie keane who was lucky enough to play for all of his teams.

Found this quite funny fact about Reus. Tomas Rosicky was his idol:
Another sign of his love for Borussia Dortmund comes in the form of the player he idolised in his younger years: Tomas Rosicky. The Czech international was one of the club's foremost figures in the early 2000s, winning the Bundesliga title with BVB and playing close to 200 league games. "Rosicky had great technique and was so intelligent and mature even though he was still young at Dortmund. I copied everything about him - right down to his sweatbands."

Oh Im aware of that, but there is situations where it does mean a lot and Reus has already shown it does for him in turning down Bayern for Dortmund

Being honest, while I really like Reus, he really isn't what we need this summer, and would worry a bit about the idea of spending 40m and however many more millions on his wages.

The attacking options at United are fine without going for another 40m player; Rooney, RVP, Mata, Kagawa should be starting as our main 4, with Welbeck, Januzaj, Hernandez, Nani, Val & Young as back up. Those 10 players cover the 4 positions perfectly, and at most, all we'd need is another squad player or back up player to replace the last two.

If we have a 200m warchest (and being honest, I don't believe we do...), then it should nearly entirely be about getting in two CMs, a left back and a center back. I'd much rather see the cash split between those 4 positions than seeing us go after ANOTHER attacking player.

Reus is great, but he's really not what we need.

    M!CK^ in the last thread:
Whenever he received the ball, (which Carrick was supposed to be providing but ****ed it up for most of the night) He never once lost it and he created three excellent chances, one in particular where he danced through the midfield like they were not even there. To state he failed is an exaggeration considering what he was up against, one man alone was never going to dominate the trio in midfield for Munich but I would like you to pick out this supposed 'suitably athletic player for the wide position' and explain exactly why this said player would have been more useful?

I never suggested that Kagawa should have dominated Munich in midfield. One player was never going to do that when United were looking to play on the counter. I was talking about his contribution to the counter attack. I think you are vastly overstating how well he contributed to the counter attack. Never once lost the ball? Come on now.

As for the type of suitably athletic player I was talking about for playing wide in a counter attacking team: Ronaldo, Bale, Lavezzi, Walcott, Ox, Rues, Hazaard, Schurrle, Draxler, Sterling, Nani, etc. Those types of players.

How much does it cost to set up your own T-Shirt design business? You would need to send me that amount, then wait until I get off the ground, then you can buy the Neville one for $39.99 USD.

Actually, no, considering you are giving me enough money to start my own business, I'll send you a Neville T-Shirt free of charge. ;)

And **** it, a 10% discount for all Boards.ie United Superthread posters! Just use the discount code: MATAGAWA at the fictional checkout of my fictional t-shirt company, soon to be fictional t-shirt empire.

Absolutely. We have Mata and Kagawa, who are similar to Reus, so that's a no go. Other areas of the team are in dire need of reinforcements, so we won't go for Reus. I wonder if some of the posters got him mixed up with Kroos, who is one that really would strengthen our midfield (not that it takes a lot to strengthen a non-existent midfield).

They arent really though, while Reus has played ten its not his position, hes more a LW, the Armenian guy is Dortmunds 10, Reus is more about speed

Seriously, you should investigate how much it would cost. There are places where you send in a design and they handle the rest for you, but I don't know how large a chunk of the cake they take.

You're probably right. Mhkitariyan is playing centrally for them, while Reus is a speedster in the Gareth Bale mould.

Reus' style is not similar to Mata or Kagawa.

Reus is a player capable of playing at a world class level in wider areas, capable of stretching teams with his pace. You could not say that about either Kagawa or Mata. We're sorely lacking a world class player wide player. I think he is tailor made for MUFC. Obviously, CM still needs addressing. I don't think anyone is saying that isn't the case.

Reus, 2 CMs, 1 LB, 1 RB, 1 CB would be on my Summer wish list. With Giggs, Cleverley, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Young all going in the opposite direction.
