Are Speedos a faux pas?

Sorry, I might have missed the memo on this, but are speedos considered a bit dubious these days?
I wear them when using the sauna/steamroom, mainly because they are less bulky and easier to wring dry.
Btw, I'm a married with kids male nearing fifty, flat stomach though!
    Any insights welcome.

Rather see you in speedos than letting it all hang out.

If you're comfortable, screw everyone else.

As long as your togs fit properly, there is no problem.

The only real reason to wear them is if you are swimming (training or competing) at some sort of competitive level though. A pair of speedo shorts will usually cost the same the bananahammock, and to be honest, I find them more comfortable.

It's up to yourself though, I don't think anyone whose opinion is informed or matters would have a problem, as long as they are the right size togs.

As a lady, I would rather see speedo's any day that lads wearing their GAA shorts and boxers/jocks underneath ... disgustingand unhygienic - you can get swimming shorts in Penneys/Dunnes for a under a fiver these days - no excuse. I often see the staff at pools chase people to wear swimming hats but ignore the fact that lads are going into the pool in their dirty underwear !!!!!

So wear your speedos - they were invented for swimming after all ...

Who gets into the pool in their underwear?

Strictly speaking, they're not in this season but these things are cyclical.

Continue as you are and they'll eventually be à la mode.

The reason I ask is that when I lived in the US, there was a fairly strict code that only gays and uninformed europeans would ever wear speedo type trunks on the beach. On the other hand, it's very neutral over here in Europe, and I remember being refused entry into the public outdoor pool in Chamonix, because we didn't have speedos! So, I'm just wondering if we gone all american on this or is it just a fashion thing.
But mainly, I don't want to be accidentally sending out the wrong signals. :D

In fairness tapout t-shirts and baseball caps are still the pinnicle of fashion across the water, I wouldnt worry about the speedos.

Depends where you are. In a pool they are fine. A little weird on the beach. But they are probably more hygienic in the pool.
