What about tag rugby or the Portlaoise athletics group meet up a few times per wk

Hi OP, I am new to Portlaoise as well, I have joined the gym in the Killeshin but find it quit quiet, and classes rarely go ahead.

It's so bloody hard to find someone on same wavelength as you, the running groups I suppose would be ok, But I find people already know one another.

Do you run OP? Perhaps you want to go for a walk/run with me, like a "first date" for friends??!!

If you are into fitness there are a few thingdls goin on in nigel pearsons gym up across from telfords. Classess and then other challenges outside of d gym

Or are u into toastmasters ? Like practicing to get up and talk in front of a group.

Other than that what about macra- they supposodly have a good social scene in other counties not sure about portlsoise but supposodly they are a great way to meet new people. They are not much "farmer" orientated anymore as they traditionally used to be.

No, constantly looking and can't find anything. It's a vicious circle. You need so many years of experience but yet no one will give you any. :-(

I did. I was lucky. The recession didn't help this country.

Hi Olly! I'm newish to portlaoise and want to meet new people too, for coffees and some nights out. Feeling very house bound at the moment but I just need to get back out there!
Portlaoise is a nice enough spot. There are a couple of nice pubs, shopping isn't fantastic but there is a tkmax lol and a few nice gyms. Don't be worrying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 jennyjones91

Would everyone be up for a coffee or something sometime in August!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭maydream

    Yes I would!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭Grey Fox

Sounds good Jenny. I could really do with making new friends, need to make more of an effort!

    What's everyone's interests?

I'm 30 year old man, live in the Greenmill lane area. Like running/keeping fit and golf but also into video games, telly etc.

I'm 29 year old female, I enjoy cooking, a bit of fitness. Would love to start a hobby like golf or something where I get out a couple of times a month and meet people. Love to socialise.

Also, for socialising ..letheon has a good, mixed crowd at weekends

I have been to leathean during the day but not at night, lovely little bar. I was in the Manhattan mixer recently too, it's small but quirky

When I first moved to town I tried a few different things to meet people, with different levels of success!
    - Astro turf soccer at the leisure centre.
    - I e-mailed Laois surfing club a while back looking to join but they never replied, not sure if it still exists!
    - I mailed LSPCA about volunteering to help them out in my spare time but again I didn't get a reply
    - Rugby (Tag rugby is great for both men and women, great laugh/social activity)
    - TRX, try a few sessions and see how you get on
    - Joined the Heath golf club. The course in town is nice and friendly too as mentioned.
    - Went down to the athletics club one night. I am a casual enough runner though and their warm up was a 4 mile run around town!! So I wasn't able for that but there are probably different levels.
    - Swimming lessons

There is loads of stuff if you have a look around. I'd be up for a coffee or 9 holes of golf(or whatever) if anyone's interested, I'm fairly easy going anyway I'm sure most of us have something in common other than our love of Portlaoise! :-P

Would defo be up for organising a coffee or a few drinks, think Jenny was suggesting this too. I couldn't commit to golf as I haven't got a clue, would love to learn lol at some stage!
I agree, I'm sure everyone is relatively normal and there will be more than lovely portlaoise in common! 😀

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭Keehar

I'd be game for a get together, too. I'm no golfer but I'm sure we can find some other things in common :-p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 jennyjones91

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with golf unless it's some type of crazy golf. And at that I still suck lol. Yea I'm sure we'll all find something in common after having a proper chat. I'm 23, unemployed, living at home and tbh don't really have any hobbies. I need to pick one up, just unsure of what.

If you want to try ceramics I have loads of stuff lying idle and a bag of clay you can have. Might boot my ass into gear to start making again if the shed was in use.

What times would suit everyone? Saturday afternoons and sundays are usually good for me, and maybe a weekday evening with enough notice!

Saturday/Sunday's suit me too and agree with notice mid week could be ok too.
