Two to consider - "Dusty Carpet" has never been beaten and "Creosote" is very good over fences

Threw a tenner on Balthazar King at 18/1.

Couldn't care less myself, that's why I never visit Gambling or Horsey running forums.

I bet you would enjoy it if you did.

Disclaimer: bet is void as you won't.

I sometimes watch it, sometimes the carnage is brutal though. Jockeys geting trampled, horses breaking legs etc. There was good documentary about it on TV a few days ago though.

Tradition is a funny thing. If the Grand National was invented tomorrow it would never be allowed to happen, the animal rights groups would be all over it and politicians would condemn it left right and centre, and they'd be right imo but because its been happening for so long that somehow makes it acceptable? Doesn't make much sense when you think about it.

A man can dream, I went for the same earlier today but I went 50c each way instead. Am now going to bet on 10 or less horses finishing the race out of the 40 that will start.

€5 each way would be the way to go on a 100/1 horse.

I stuck €5 on Big Shu to win at 16/1 and Our Father at 50/1 €2.50 EW.

In fairness though, changes have been made to make the race less dangerous -changes to the fences, bringing the start forward. Everyone got home safely last year after modifications to the fences. It also means that horses of class have a better chance of winning now, rather than just randomers. I imagine as the years wear on, and with the changes that have been made, it'll get far easier to predict the winner.

Wouldn't it be more fun to watch if the made it a bit more dangerous.Give the horses spikes like the chariots in Ben Hur and allow the jockeys to whip each other.
    Just sayin.

Indeed. Last year, there were only 2 fallers. There were some unseated riders too, but the jockey falling off the horse doesn't hurt the animal.

Shakalakaboomboom at 20/1 fiver each way. I'll put the winnings on the lotto

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,396 ✭✭✭Frosty McSnowballs

€2 on Golan Way to win @100/1 - payout €202
€10 on Lion na Bearnai EW @33/1 - payout €432.50
    €8 on Teaforthree to win @11/1 - payout €96

I know fuq all about all this betting lark but I'm nearly sure I'm going to win! I have a system.

Burton Port is an interesting one and is very well handicapped. The National was mentioned by connections back in the days when he was with Nicky Henderson and there's little doubt that he was moved to Jonjo O'Neill (staying specialist) last year with the National his main aim. 4th in a Gold Cup, 2nd in a Hennessy. Very dangerous horse off just 10-8 at 20/1.

Prince De Beauchene was all the rage for the 2012 (favourite) and 2013 (2nd favourite) races but missed both with injuries. This year he's made it to his long term target and bookies are very brave offering 28/1. Shame Ruby doesn't make it but Paul Townend is a good sub.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,286 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

If you go for an each way(e/w) bet you are making two bets one that the horse will win and one that the horse will place in this case either 2,3,4 or 5. If your horse places the odds are divided by 4 in this case so for example a €5 e/w bet on a 100/1 horse will cost €10 if the horse comes in 2,3,4 or 5 you will win €130 if the horse wins the race you will win €635 in total, hope this helps.
