Mk4 tdi golf rough idle

    Hi all,
    In a spot of bother at the minute. My 03 tdi golf has suddenly started to idle and drive very rough, I would almost say it sounds like it's only firing on three cylinders. The esp light also came on when this started so I presume there is something that links the two somewhere down the line. I haven't done any sort of work on the car recently so I can't figure out what has caused it. I don't have access to a vcds but I just used a cheapy obd-ii scanner to see if there was any codes thrown up. Zero! Can anyone shed some light on my situation?
