New office chair recommendations

    Hi all,

Looking to buy a chair for a home office (working from home at a desk with a computer).

I exercise regularly and I'd like to maintain whatever good posture I have. Can someone make a few recommendations as to what kind of chair is best for this sort of setup. I'm 6'2" and 100kg.

    Money is an issue.

    Thanks.

A guy I worked with in Australia used to sit on a backless 'saddle' chair. He reckoned it was good for posture as you wouldn't slouch back at all.

He's around 6'3 or so, was very skinny though.

I'm not sure I could get used to it, I'm a fecker for slouching though.

I don't know if holding a squat for 7 hours is an acceptable use of my time :D

I'm using a kitchen chair at the moment!

Could you raise up the height of your desk and work in a standing position? Maybe with something to lean against for rests now and then?
Feels so much better than sitting in front of a computer all day.

Would something like this be what you had in mind?

Herman Miller Aeron are amazing chairs, well worth it if you are going to be sitting on it for a few hours a day. I've been sitting in the same one for a few years now and have no issues. I won't say that I forget it is there (or I would be sitting on the floor) but once you have it correctly setup you will almost forget that is there. I would always haven been fumbling with chairs and issues with posture previously.

    Too expensive :/

You're as well to go to an office supplies place and sit in some chairs. Something that works brilliantly for someone else may not suit you. I have a minor problem with my back and had to send back a couple of chairs that other people were sitting in happily. I guess the basic thing to look out for is the time rating of the chair ie the max time it's recommended to sit in it per day. The chair I ended up with is a 24 hour chair. Probably not the cheapest either.

I have a Herman Miller Mirra chair which is slightly cheaper than the Aeron. Would recommend. These are "operator chairs" which are designed for sitting in for a loooooong time :p

Chair is no good if your desk is not setup right tho, screen must be the right distance away etc. You should not find yourself leaning forward and so on.

I got a SteelCase Leap V2 second hand recently. 350 euro including delivery.

Herman Miller Aeron chairs are always on eBay and adverts second hand.

If you work from home like me, you'll be glad you spent the extra few quid.

Irish liquidators have some Herman Miller Aeron chairs for €225 if you're still looking

Second Herman miller chairs and standing desks.

I have a herman miller but still slouch and sitting even in a good chair is still bad for you. So I'm going to get a geekdesk soon.

Probably beyond your budget, but an adjustable height desk is better than any chair.
