So a 68 year old man followed a cleaning van in through front gate at 6:30am, ignored the security guards, drove around college damaging cars and the like before trying to get out of the closed gates, then proceeded to ram through the historic front gates, damaging them.. Then driving off through Nassu street and then the wrong way up Dawson st.

Crazy , he was caught thankfully

You really should have to resit the driving test yearly once you hit 65. This is getting rediculous.

Said on the journal he was joyriding !! - Hardly

He has probably never done a test in the first place - prob got the amnesty in 1979

I'm not sure how well the driving test establishes whether someone is, or is likely to go, mental. Perhaps the Theory test could include a true/false question: "I intend to use a motorised vehicle to do something batshit insane"

yeah because everyone knows its the over 65 that cause all the accidents.
why don't you have to sit the test every year if you are between 18 and 25? Hardly think that because of 1 incident every one over 65 should have to sit the test, also I noted in the news it was a white, male driver maybe it should be anyone over 65 whose white, male and answers to the name Fred that should resit the test every year

I actually laughed out loud at this! :pac:

What sort of a car was he driving? Did he have 'No fear' emblazoned on the rear window of his Subaru? Or was he in a a wee Micra? Or a 141 D mercedes?

I know - bad spelling and punctuation in both!

I submit that the first of those two was a joke.

I live on campus- woken up by this guy blaring music from his car at 6.30 am, wrecked today now.

    And our poor door :(

Do people still use that word, "retardation". It just doesnt sit right with me.
Anyway it was a joke about the strangeness of this 68 year old joyrider. To be honest he probably has issues that need addressing and probably will never be allowed drive again.

Didn't recognise it, sounded like some sorta easy listening stuff you'd hear off Q102 or something.

Especially in this situation: it seems like there was no application of brakes at all.

I know :( I left my place in Botany Bay this morning at 8 and was completely oblivious. You have to hand it to trinity security, they do a really good job of keeping their eye on us with minimal fuss. I feel very safe living and working on campus, and it isn't like things like this don't happen every so often. I've heard (not witnessed) horror stories from the cleaning ladies about things that happened hours before and you wouldn't have a clue walking through campus that some disaster or another has just been averted.

TL;DR trinity sec = some pups.

Hope he went directly to jail, didn't pass go, and didn't collect his €200.

There's a one-way traffic system, so I imagine he would have been required to go anti-clockwise around Trinty. The good news is that he would have avoided passing the bank.

All employees are disgruntled to some extent.

A story i heard was that he'd had his parking permit revoked as a retired staff member and decided a bit of payback was in order but this might not be the case.

there's plenty of nutters on both sides of Trinity's walls.

looks like the rebranding is going well, removing the gates was part of the initiative on the new crest!

I think you could be on to something: a publicity stunt for their new initiative which aims to open Trinity's doors to the wider community.
