In Praise of SwimCycleRun…and Some Eternal Shame For Me

I just wanted to start a thread on how fantastic the service is at SwimCycleRun is, even inspire of rank, full on stupidity (that would be mine!)

Basically I ordered a tyre form them, they (Brian) rang me the next day to say sorry they sent out the wrong size but he was going to be down the road from me the next day so I could pick the right ones up from him. Which I did. Which was super handy and nice.

And it's set your face to cringe for the next bit! So I went of home, spent ages trying to get the new tyre onto my wheel but no go. So I rang him to ask if the tyre was too small, he said no, but he was free he could drop up and see if he could get it on? So he came up, couldn't get the tyre on there and then, took it back to his place, couldn't get it back on either. Couldn't believe how helpful he was, I really can't praise him enough, really went above and beyond. Wouldn't take anything for his time. Now for the embarrassing bit. So I am waving him off and wondering why the tyre won't fit, when I say "It says 700 on the old tyre look", and I do, and I hold up said old fúcked tyre, and it says 630. I am still cringing. :o:o:o:o:o:o:o I don't expect to stop anytime soon.

TLDR: SwimCycleRun are super helpful and nice and brilliant to deal with. I am an idiot. :o

I ordered some green swiss stop brake pads from them on a Monday they arrived on the Weds.

No delivery charge, cheaper than Wiggle, keeping it local.

Any ideas on when they will arrive as my other half will be there all day tomorrow but has to leave at 8am Friday, also if nobody is at home can I collect them from local depot/post office etc..

Show off. Most of us have to time our deliveries for when the Mrs WON'T be there.

What bib shorts did you order - looking at buying some myself. Just to echo praise of everyone else, have ordered from these guys in the past and found them to be helpful above and beyond the call of duty. Superb place to buy gear.

Our club gear is Pissei, quality is fine, I rode the Wicklow 200 in the shorts last year with no discomfort, the sizing seems to be different from the ones on SCR, mine are size 6, and I'm 185cm 90kg, take large in DHB, XL in most Italian stuff.

Excellent shorts, I have two pairs of them. Very good fit (I'm 6ft and 76kg) and size Large is absolutely spot on.

Are 650c wheels a common compromise for women? I know another female Cyclist on a roadbike who got a B'twin with 650c wheels to bring it down to her vertically space efficient stature.

Not a compromise I would make because you limit your resale market, and your wheel/tyre/tube options. But I'm not that small. I know of one or two shorter girls who went 650.

Same here - would probably only consider it if I was small enough to need a frame under 50cm or shorter than around 5'2".

I put in a test order yesterday - do you get a dispatch email when the item has shipped?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭colm_gti

Brian is a top man, an absolute gent to deal with, and goes above and beyond what is expected of him!

I bought a handful of parts off him before I moved to London, and got them within 2 days, would have absolutely no hesitation recommending them to anyone else, or using them again in the future.

It's great to see someone passionate about the sport taking a big risk opening an online bike shop in a seemingly saturated market and doing what it takes to make a good name for the shop.

You've posted about them many times here before and your 100% right, they are excellent to deal with.

Had a problem with shorts I bought, without any query, new pair sent.

    So I bought more stuff!

I didn't when I bought some tube from them recently. Having put the order in on a Thursday I received the tubes on the Monday, before I'd even had time to fret about whether they'd received the order.

I'm impressed by them too. Their fast delivery is good, their free delivery is great, and some of their prices are excellent too, a rare enough combination.

Ordered some things last week, and had them delivered within 2 days.
Just noticed Tuesday night that the tyre that I was sent was the wrong one. Emailed Brian at 11.30pm and received a reply at 11.45pm (yes, as in almost midnight). New tyre sent out next morning (wednesday) and I've just received it. No questions asked and included was a prepaid sticker to send the original tyre back. Now that is good customer service!!

Yeah, just rang them there. The guy told me that an post had tried to deliver them on the 7th but there was nobody home. They didn't leave a card saying they'd tried so now I have to go out to ballymount to collect them or wait until next week to organise delivery. An Post's fault for not letting me know so that I could organise something for this week.

May aswell chime in with another positive review. Bought a few bits and pieces and was extremely impressed with delivery time! Great to have an Irish company competing for online space. I know my small few shillings I spend won't make or break any organisation, but it's good to keep it local when you can. Best of luck to them and I hope they continue to grow. I'll be putting in another order soon!

I've bought from them twice now - great prices and top class communication. Its a pleasure to to business with a local enthusiast. An post delivery is a bonus too as it cuts out Parcel Motel costs (last set of wheels that I got in through Parcel Motel cost me a bit more than I expected)
