Three games in 8 days will mean a big enough squad will have to be taken.

Can't say if I were a player I'd have any interest in the comp when I could be on my holidays!

So June will see Emerging Ireland head to Romania for a quadrangular against Romania, Russia and Uruguay.

Romania and Russia will be a forwards battle while what I seen of Uruguay last week they are more of a backs team.

Who do we expect to bring ?

Well just taking the game on the weekend all the wingers played well. If you were to only pick two from Earls, Fitz, McFadden, and Zebo from that one game I'm not sure if I'd go for Zebo.

For the tour to Arg I can't see any wingers being rested (unlike maybe Sexton) so the competition for the wing spot is massive.

If you were a 20/21 year old you'd not fancy a run in a green jersey?

Also, in a pretty practical sense they get paid for it and have a good length of time off after anyway.

Few older players 26/27 went last year, Cronin was pissed off getting asked to go I recall, he then replaced Best in senior squad later on

What's most encouraging is that 7 of the players on that tour were capped in this years six nations

Yep he said so in a interview few months ago, pissed off to go with the emerging team when having plenty of senior caps for country and province already.

    Will dig out quote

If you saw last season's tournament, there were a glut of players who looked like they would rather be anywhere else than playing a tournament in eastern Europe. It translated into the performances which were generally poor.

We sent a pretty decent side too, considering the year that it was.

didnt say pissed off in this one but basically extremely dissappointed, massive setback, ups downs, gut-wrenching, kick in the teeth etc.

Definetly read another where he said pissed off but you get the idea.

It proved a valuable tour for those who went in the end though and thats what its all about.

Well we could bring four wingers to Argentina, and they could very easily be Earls/Bowe/D Kearney and Trimble

Schmidt might also have McFadden and Fitzgerald ahead of him as well if he fancies Cave and Henshaw both to play 13 on tour.

No I don't. If that's what I meant I would have typed it

I forget about Fitz in my post. Another guy who will probably go to Argentina

Gilroy hasn't a hope at this stage

Gilroy will be on the Emerging Irish tour I reckon unless there is a lot of injuries between no and seasons end.

Who are the 7? I can only count 6.

Either way it's a great idea and a great step forward in progressing Irish rugby.

He is past it now river - lost his pace and dont think his contract is getting renewed with us. Leader could do job at fb maybe if trying players out

He seems to be suggesting he's in contention for the Ireland squad. Which is all the more ridiculous

Yes don't have Marimon or Henshaw in my list, I can see Rodney goin Romania rather than Argentina but never know, hope he gets on plane to Argies

There are only 2 matches. We only took 30 men to NZ for 3 games in 2012 of which only 8 were to cover jerseys 11-15. I can see us bringing a similar number to Argentina for 2 matches.

Out of those, there will probably be 4-5 wingers (on the provision that Earls/McFadden will cover centre also) that will come out of DK, Earls, Trimble, Bowe, Fitzgerald, McFadden and Zebo.

One would assume guys like Henshaw, D'Arcy, RK and Marshall will definitely travel and possibly Cave too.

It would cause a small bit of discussion here but it's entirely conceivable that someone like Zebo could be left at home along with one or two others. Schmidt is possibly hoping for a wee niggle for one or two people that requires resting.

if henshaw and o halloran can continue their good form then they can push into the wolfounds squad and maybe futher.

This is the bloke who went to the RWC in 2007?

It's hard to know what this squad will look like until we know the senior squad and even then this an Emerging Ireland squad, not the Wolfhounds. Maybe guys like Jack Conan, Rory Scholes or whatever young 20/21/22 year olds will get a look along with some more established guys. In other words guys with genuine test potential even if they aren't necessarily next in line for the current squad.

ya but it doesn't really make any sense saying he can push into the wolfhounds squad when he has already gone past it

ya, what you said still doesn't make sense. He'll be in the squad for Argentina

There's only one wolfhounds game a year and it's not worth a ****e in terms of experience because it's usually a rabble of players thrown together

fair enough. do you think he has a chance in the first team ?

Of course he does. All he needs to do is shine at provincial level now. Schmidt has already made it known that he has his eyes on him :)

That should be more than enough incentive for players in fairness. I'd imagine Joe will be telling each of them that they have a really good shot of getting themselves noticed if they work hard. Slack off and that'll be noticed too.

The winger debate is an interesting one. You'd imagine we'd only bring 4 to Argentina, maybe 5 at a push. The options are Bowe, Trimble, Fitz, McFadden, D Kearney, Earls and Zebo. At least 2 will miss out. Do you drop the 2 lads who were part of the 6 Nations winning squad?

Honestly I think Zebo would do well to make the Argentina tour unless some of those options take a dip in form or are injured. Overall I'd have Bowe, Fitz and Earls ahead of him certainly. Trimble definitely did enough in the 6 Nations and McFadden provides really good squad cover plus has been playing well this season too. D Kearney and Zebo could well both miss out with the others travelling.
