Item has already been what I thought it would be

Delivery ranges from 3-8weeks, but I've always received my item.

Quality of the item can vary,
    - For example I bought a solar powered flashlight for 2euro, it lasted around 16mopnths and stopped working
    - I've bought a window mount for my phone for less then 3e, can't fault it
    - I've gone through two cig chargers for my car, quality isn't the best but again so cheap its not a big issue for me.

Would i order again, yep no problem at all

    Placed order on 29th March

Order confirmed as being shipped on 1st April 2014
(opted to pay for Express delivery to get it quicker)

2 weeks past and still no sign of order
Chased up order on 16th April
They then informed me that the order could not be shipped Express (no explanation)

They offered a refund of Delivery charges and said they could only send via Sweden Post
(So the order was sitting in the warehouse for 2 weeks because it couldn't be sent express - they did not inform me of this and only acted on it when I chased it with them)

So new despatch date was 16th April via Sweden Post
Arrived 7th May (3 weeks delivery)

That wasn't too bad considering its free delivery from china, just more peed about the fact they left it there for two weeks..
Anyway at least I have the goods now and delivery charge refunded

    Now to test the goods

    Cheers

Because it is really that cheap but as they are based in Asia they don't have as big overheads (or need for profit margins on cheap plastic).

    That's business.
The Irish supplier has bought it there and is charging you a profit on it !

As Nody mentioned they don't have the same I overhead, china are all about qty, they mass produce everything so its costs even less again.

I got a few spare batteries for one of my cameras. If I was to buy them in a camera shop here in Ireland they would be €50each and have to be ordered in but then only cost me €3each (yes three) with free delivery - so happy days :)

Received my delivery yesterday via An Post no tax/duty,
mine was only a small parcel/letter

But that could be different story if the parcel was shipped with DHL/UPS/TNT

I've ordered loads of stuff of from DX. I'd say around 50 orders so far. Delivery to Ireland is really slow. I've ordered stuff to the Netherlands occasionally and that takes about half the time to arrive as to Ireland. Also don't bother paying for express as my experience is it sometimes takes longer to arrive than standard/free delivery. Have placed orders at same time where express took longer to arrive than standard.
The longest I've waited was about 3 months. This was so long that I reported still not receiving my items to dx after about 1,5 months. They treated the order as lost a sent the same order again (free). The new order arrived weeks before I received the original order (so I got all items twice and paid once).
They now have an EU warehouse but haven't ordered anything of that yet so don't know how long that takes, also it stocks only limited items and last time I looked Ireland was not a an option on the list of countries EU warehouse ships to (I think they don't get it's not part of uk). My items have never been stopped for duty by customs but my highest order has probably never exceeded $50. To avoid a single high value order you're better of splitting your items over several orders as you don't have to pay for shipping anyway.
As for the quality of stuff it varies, I'd be reluctant ordering stuff which uses main power as most of their products don't have the same quality checks/safety requirements as we're used to.
They're pretty good with service, if items arrive broken or not at all they'll give you a refund, store credit or re send.
Lastly I would advice to read reviews on items as it tends to give a better idea of the quality you can expect.
As an alternative to dx you could try www.tmart.com or for bulk www.alibaba.com

Still well with in the norm; DX is a case of buy, forget about it, get surprised when the package arrives.

seems so. wont be ordering with them anymore unless im not in need of my items ASAP :(

    hurry up ffs :D

If its not arriving contact the website and they will sort it out quickly .

If it is in transit and you can see this on tracking website , then it is completely out of the sellers hands , and not much can be done .

    IMO Express Shipping is useless.

With DX it can take weeks just to assemble your order, so you may as well accept that it'll be at least a month, express or not.

There's a box you can tick if you want stuff to be sent as soon as it's ready, but they don't always do this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,005 ✭✭✭PeteK*

LightInABox and MiniInABox can be an alternative with much faster shipping.
    But DX is good, too.

Why are they a shower? It's cheap for a reason...... you don't expect to get it quickly. As has been pointed out the caveat with using them is how long it takes but generally speaking you will always get it and at a fraction of what it'd cost elsewhere. If you want something in a hurry you don't use dx.com and instead use one of the many tens of thousands of other sites that exist out there.

I'm sorry but bashing the company based on how long it takes to receive isn't fair.

When they state between 10 days to 22 days to be delivered, after 36 days I would consider there is a problem! I dont only use dx because they are cheap, prior to this I received all orders within 2 weeks. And not all their products are at a fraction of the cost in comparison to "the many tens of thousands of other sites that exist out there."

Who said I wanted it in a hurry, again I want it delivered in the time frame they have set out, not me! As a customer I expect my delivery within the time a company has stated, maybe you have lower customer service standards then me?

As I said it will be the last time I will use this shower, but thanks for your input!

Ah now now, there's no need to be tetchy (that's how I'm reading your post.) Look, regardless of customer service etc, the general consensus with DX is that you don't receive it quickly.... regardless of what it may state on the website. Maybe you've missed the mirth and merriment that each time you order from them it's somewhat like Christmas........ items turn up randomly, long after you've forgotten about them and it's a nice little surprise.

Maybe we do have differing levels of customer service expectation but as I mentioned, I don't expect to receive from them promptly, no matter what it says on the site. They are known for being slow as feck and I place an order knowing that.

If I ordered something from Amazon etc and it took forever to arrive, well that would be a different kettle of fish.

I ordered multiple items and they arrived between 3rd and 4th week. As posted above, DX.com is not for anything you need in a hurry. They state deliveries may take between 11 and 22 BUSINESS days so that could mean anything up to 32 days all in, if items come from their Hong Kong warehouse by airmail.
Personally the range of stock and cost are what keep me coming back to this site, but I can understand why it doesn't suit everyone.

    Hi,

I too have ordered for the first time from DX. the range is huge and cheap.

However the delivery time is worrying me as well. I ordered a battery charger and need it now :-)
I have every other component i need except the charger.

Question is I ordered an MVP product. I got notice that it was shipped. does this mean it can be here soon? or am i still looking at a possible long delivery?

The tracking number dosen't work all the time (the random code generated is a pain). when it does work - the nearest i can see is that it is left the country - I think....

So if marked shipped does it still take time?

    Thanks.

I'm thinking of purchasing a similar produce in the UK and selling the DX one when it comes on ebay or done deal.....mainly cause i need the item now...

    Thanks for any comments...

Where does the tracking number say it is? Most delays are due to the Chinese post office being sh|te! Post up the tracking number if you want.

It's a bit of a guess but from the moment of shipping it can take up to a month (or more if unlucky) to arrive, 2-3 weeks is about the quickest in my experience so don't expect it sooner than that.
As said, DX is not for stuff you need now/soon, although shipping to Ireland seems to be exceptionally slow compared to other EU countries (from experience).

Actually your getting more sense out of it than me - this is what I get:

item No. Year Status Location Destination Country Date
    RC486586691CN 2014 Collection 51810302 IE 20140710 2042
    RC486586691CN 2014 Opening 51805300 IE 20140710 2345
    RC486586691CN 2014 Dispatching 51805300 IE 20140711 0822
    RC486586691CN 2014 Opening 51003100 IE 20140712 0817
    RC486586691CN 2014 Departure from outward office of exchange 51003100 IE 20140712 1104
    RC486586691CN 2014 NULL CAN IE 20140713 2138

When I click on the number it takes me to what I presume is China's post tracking page?

Or are you using a different page to enter the number? (what is it?)

From what you have paste in boards (for my tracking number) it looks like my package is on Air France? and maybe routed through Canada (CAN?)?

I also have a second number that I can never seem to get the mentioned page to track - RC685895493CN can you see it htere anything for this one as well?

    Thank a mill!

I find http://www.track-trace.com/post to be good for tracking. Also, use the number in http://track.anpost.ie/TrackOne.aspx - when the package arrives into Ireland, the tracking number becomes valid.

Status Departure from outward office of exchange
    Location 51003100 (which means Guangzhou)
    Date 20140712 1104 (12th July)

    Status NULL
Location CAN (which usually means Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport)
    Date 20140713 2138 (13th July)

So I'm thinking you ordered it on the 9th or 10th, and it'll sit in the airport for three weeks before getting sent to Ireland. As far as I can tell, the three weeks is so that enough cheap crap gets put together for a shipping crate, and your item gets loaded onto it. After three weeks, your item will arrive in Dublin, and arrive into your post office 3 or 4 days later.

    I order from dx.com quite a bit, but it's as Nody said;

DX.com are having major issues with airlines not accepting packages with batteries. My order, an air mouse remote, was stuck in Malaysia for six weeks and was eventually returned to DX. I have been using DX for years and this is the first time anything has been sent via Malaysian airlines!

As has been said don't buy from DX and actually need to receive it!
