Exercising less, losing more weight?

For the 18 months previous to September 2013 I had been going to the gym, relatively regularly. Sometimes maybe 1-2 times a week and sometimes 3-4. There would be the odd week where I didn't go at all. My weight never really changed, it stayed at 69.8kg, give or take the odd .1kg

Then from end of September 13 onwards to now I have barely been going. However I have changed my diet a bit. My portions are a little smaller and I've tried to cut down on sweets and such. I've not been on a diet by any means, just some simple changes.
In this time my weight has gone down to 66.4. Now I know this isn't a massive change, but considering my weight has always stayed very steady, any change at all is good.

Am I just losing muscle weight? Or is this genuine weight loss? I keep getting all happy when i step on the scales and see its still going down, butI'm also a little worried that its not an accurate reflection of my weight/health. How can I only be losing weight now I've stopped regular exercise?

    It's a mystery for sure

You've lost weight because you're in a calorie/energy deficit. Exercise will obviously help but your diet is a much more influential factor. The fact that you've kept your diet in check means you've probably maintained a small deficit, so you've lost a little bit over time, that's perfectly normal. I'd go as far as to say that the deficit being so small has probably reduced the likelihood that you've lost muscle.

Thanks for that :) I guess I'll just have to wait and see if it continues to decrease.

Weighing scales should be thrown out the window. Look at yourself in the mirror instead.
