following the theft of my last bike (see here) i'm in the market for a replacement. In the hope that i can claim on insurance and with my bike to work due in may i reckon i'll treat myself, though i may secure the new one a bit better.

so i'm looking for recommendations for a road bike to buy in dublin for up to €2,500

i don't race competitively, this is for training, sportives, duathlons, adventure races and maybe the odd continental hill climb!

Can you buy online? How about this Scott frame: http://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/scott-foil-15-di2-aero-road-frameset-2012-with-ultegra-6800-11-speed-di2-groupset-p237560
Then you have 1k to spend on winter + summer wheels

Have you thought about a Sensa Guilia, they are priced at about €2.2K with complete Shimano Ultegra 11 speed groupset?

    Have a look www.sensabikes.com

We can get these through our holiday company at dutch prices...(which are a bit cheaper than retail here).

Ring them and buy it instead.

That price on the scott is absolutely cracking.

You should check out thompson. The nrpt lads are riding them this year. theyre a well established company but still quite small in the scale of things. This allows for what cube gave you a few years back, total value for money. 2200 with 6800 ultegra, fizik saddle and decent wheelset with an rrp of 300 quid or so.
Not sure where you're based but definitely a dealer in cork and i think theres one in mayo somewhere. might be more too

    I would buy this.

    http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s6p5221/CANNONDALE-SUPERSIX-ULTEGRA-2013

    It's not in Dublin, sorry.

Or this, which is both not in Dublin and slightly over budget...

    http://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3332

    ...for the love of Compog.

Or even this with internally routed, internal battery 11sp Di2

One other thing, remember theres only a few different types of people who will recommend a bike to you
    1. The bargain Hunters
    2. The Italian onlys
    3. The planet X crew
    4. the people who will recommend their favourite bike company and think you should also buy one to become one of the chronies. (these are the worst recommendations because theres no reasoning behind them)

Its your own choice which category you want to fall into taking recommendations from :)

    ^^ This.

Though the battery is attached under the bike just behind the crank.
You can see it at "8 o'clock" through the big ring, unless I am missing something.

    Great system and lovely bike.

This is a good review of Di2 but I don't know when it was made.

Wilier Izoard, depending on the specs can go past €2k. The Bike Hub in Howth sell Wilier.

Check out CRC, Wiggle, CycleSuperStore, EuroCycles, Slane Cycles, etc etc and the rest of the endless cycle websites in existence, pick a price range and look at what's available...then if possible get a spin on those that you like best and then buy the one that you like the look and feel of...simples.

Is this a stipulation from your employer (or 3rd party) for the implementation of the scheme? Otherwise you should be able to do so. I did.

i'm pretty sure they're strict about it unfortunately, they use one of those agencies to manage the scheme and you're then restricted to whatever shops they deal with.
i know a guy in a bike shop who's happy to order in whatever i decide on, though i'm not sure if that's via standard suppliers only...

Bummer! If your budget is €2500 it might not be worth your while to get your bike through the b2w as there is likely to be much better value to be had outside of the list of shops to which you'd be restricted.

    That's a good point. With a scheme like that, there's no room for haggling with the bike shops (they've already given your discount to the operator of the scheme). At the higher rate of tax, you'll save €520 off the price of anything over €1000 so the question you need to ask yourself is this;
    • Can I get a better bike than this in my LBS for €2500 without the ability to haggle? Carbon frame & fork, full Athena 11sp groupset and Ksyrium Elite wheels.

On a serious note, while the tinternet is great for browsing & research the, local LBS if approached should give you a competitive price especially at the money your looking to spend, also after sales service.
I cant recommend Terry & Darren in cyclebike on Capel St enough. I purchased my 1st roadbike from them last summer (not for €2.5k though) 2 good lads, a couple of my colleagues have also used them.
    happy shopping.

Over two grand for the Cervelo and they put Michelin Dynamic Sport tyres on it. I'd be embarrassed to sell that.

I am in the same boat as you and looking at the n2a but for some reason I'm always suspicious of PX as the price is so much cheaper than other brands for similar specs. Saying that I don't have any experience of their bikes.

    I was looking at this...

    http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/images/kuota-kuraro-13-UltrC-1000.jpg

    but it's €3,099.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭mr spuckler

i know one guy in the uk that has the n2a and loves it.

that kuota is a stunning looking bike too, i really don't think that i could justify the extra layout though, especially as i'm already struggling to justify the price of the PX and will have to cough up extra straight away for all of the accessories which were stolen with the bike!

just confused about what the story with the ultegra offer is on the planet X, the SRAM force version is e100 more and doesn't mention pre-order as the ultegra one does

Bit cheaper here if you're not looking for a small.

took me a while but i called in to buckley's yesterday...the 2014 paint job is stunning.
they have a large and extra large in the 2013 for €1,999 with ultegra and the 2014 with 105 is €1,999 also.

still no closer to a decision btw, called into PX but wasn't overwhelmed, been looking at cannondale super six evo 5 and giant tcr advanced 1 in the last couple of weeks but my preference seems to jump pretty wildly :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭Carpenter

so i think this is now down to a choice between...

    ridley fenix 105 http://buckleycycles.ie/?wpsc-product=ridley-fenix-105-c40 €1,999, ultegra €2,699

    cervelo s2 105 http://base2race.ie/collections/road-bike/products/cervelo-s2-105 €2,799

    cannondale super 6 evo 5 105 https://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=72063 €2,219

    giant tcr advanced 1 http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/2014.giant.tcr.advanced.1/14970/66530/ €2,899

i'm tempted not to go as high as the price on the giant as i want to upgrade wheels also and have the lot come in at less than €3k. any thoughts / first hand experience of any of these?
