I wonder if it's gutted/empty...prob just a shell. Still though, the foundations for a sweet Mame driver setup right there

Yeah not ideal, but it could be salvaged & dried out properly depending. Big old cab it looks like, not the easiest to go in & rescue

If anyone's around it pull the chassis out and flog them

Sad and all as it is to see, I just can't get over the fact that there is a twin cabinet of that size sitting on the footpath in the middle of the city with absolutely no explanation.

To move something that big you need a van and a few people.
How did that even come about?

Anyone recognize it from somewhere? (Quirkey's maybe?)

I wonder did some dodgy types tell them they'd move out an old dead cabinet and they just decided to dump it down the street once they were out of sight.

Still, it's hardly a 'push it out of the van' and speed off scenario...

Looking at the picture, I see possible two wheels to the left hand side of it. I wonder if someone got it from somewhere but gave up pushing it after a while? I'd be looking at any game arcades that have shut down, but are now getting redone under a new business (white paintbrush is still on it). Could be some sweet deals at it if so. If it's a "GTI Club: Corso Italiano" machine, it could be from anywhere in a 20 minute walk radius of where it was left. From the cable hanging out the bottom (that probably led to the seat section), I'd have my doubts if it was totally stripped. A quick "lift" of one end would probably answer that question. Not something I'd have room for, but would be great for someones shed.

I'd be surprised someone doesn't take it in for either a good home, or to help in a project.

Someone is waking up from a drunken stupor in their 2nd floor flat, with the balcony doors wide open and a lot of space against one particular wall, wondering where the frak their cab went.

    Now this just got interesting!

Someone fancy grabbing me that remote board???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭safetyboy

I'm not there i just got a text off a mate. I'm sure there will be more, wonder what PCB is in it

I'd say there's definitely a PCB in there. Whoever is throwing it out has no interest in retaining old gear, so would have no interest in removing the PCB.

By looking at the CP, maybe a Neo Geo mobo?

Dammit, and I could have nipped into town as well this morning!
I wonder what they'd say to the guy trying to drill out the rear lock to get at the PCB!
Looks like GTi Club upsidedown behind it!

Sure grab the chassis if you can!
    God speed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,077 ✭✭✭safetyboy

How do you take the chassis off as this will be a hit and run job :)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

haha you would need to discharge the monitor to take it off, unless you want to risk getting thrown out of the skip! :pac:

    Skip diving is perfectly fine!
I bet the gippos will have it gone tho.
Normally 2 bolts hold the chassis to the frame.
And unclip the red suction cup carefully.
They say these can be live but they all nearly discharge automatically. But air on the side of caution and don't touch the clips under the suction cup.
Bring an adjustable spanner and a big flat driver!

Such a pity, tiny bit of TLC and they could be some nice mame cabs going there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

I'll be beside there later, might bring my screwdrivers lol

Where are these coming from? Was there a bar/arcade in that area on Camden street that someone's renovating?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,417 ✭✭✭griffdaddy

Probably came out of the Ferocious Mingle market there. They moved up from Thomas Street recently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,147 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

I was in the ferocious mingle before but don't recall those being there although it does seem likely. Yer man who had retropolis used to be in the ferocious mingle so he'd probably know.

When the Palace had the pool upstairs they had some arcade machines and definitely a 2 player driving game. It's probably from their storage.

Drop that thing back to Black Mesa, a certain scientist needs it quick!

Some so bizarre. Has someone taken up a lease on an empty unit, and decided that these were junk. Home one of you guys manage to salvage something usable from one of these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,315 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

Half tempted to grab a crowbar, and pop in regardless later on.

Anyone got the balls to wear a shirt and tie and ask the Palace for any spare machines? Find a shirt and tie gets better results :pac:

Can't see the palace ditching stuff on the street for 2 days, it's not like they are short of space
And was on opposite side of road

Call the skip company.I'd say they would let you take it ! Key waste

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,175 ✭✭✭Doge

If only there was a way of showing places like this that there's a demand for Arcade Cabinets.

Also if the public had some way of monitoring what was going to recycling facitilites / dumps, (besides calling out and having a look round) we'd reduce a lot of unnecessary wastage.

Suprised they were even able to put them in skips. Mostly skip hire companies state no electrical waste. Is this not enforced. An enterprising sort might be able to get in contact with their local WEEE centre and ask them to keep an eye out for cabs for them.
Some really impressive stuff out their. Heard of people building and painting their own cabs. Lucky devils, if only I had a garage, instead I live in shoebox. :pac:

Seen plenty of electrical waste in skips in my neck of the woods, so doubt it's actively enforced much! :P

I find recycling plants to be horrible places to visit.

Namely because every time I drop by one, I keep seeing people throwing perfectly good CRTs away :(

The last two visits the same guy had a trolley full of CRTs and computers. Just fecking them all into a steel cage to be disposed of. I'm sure they all worked grand, just an office being upgraded.

Hands up something along those lines. Got rid of two old clunky monitors for my mom a few years ago. Wish I knew they were of interest to someone.

It's a pain in the hole trying to give things away for free though.

You wouldn't believe the utter time wasting arseholes it brings out of the woodwork.

    I'll second that.

Never had much bother on Adverts until I tried to give stuff away. Hours of wasted messaging only to throw it in the bin!

Giving away stuff on adverts is a flocking nightmare, never again!
I once gave away a bed on the condition I wasn't disassbling it and it had to be taken in one piece. Ended up outside the apartment block in the rain with spanners and screwdrivers for an hour!
