Chope has been removed from the card and fired due to past history

After some less-than-flattering background information became public on Saturday, Will Chope has been pulled from today’s UFC Fight Night 38 lineup and cut from the UFC roster.

Chope (19-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was scheduled to fight fellow featherweight Diego Brandao (18-9 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. It was slated as the final FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary-card bout before the same channel carried the main card.

The cancellation and contract termination, first reported by Globo, came after Bleacher Report‘s recent report that Chope was kicked out of the U.S. Air Force after assaulting his wife and threatening her with a knife in November 2009. According to an Air Force Court of Appeals document, it wasn’t the only incident.

UFC officials today announced the bout’s cancellation and Chope’s contract termination.

“The UFC does not condone behavior of this nature whatsoever and Chope has been released from his contract,” a statement read.

With Chope off the card, UFC Fight Night 38 will go on with 11 bouts. His opponent, Brandao, will be paid his “show” money and “win” bonus, according to the UFC.

I find this pretty ironic really, considering that the UFC wheel out Iron Mike Tyson at any given opportunity

UFC fighter Anthony Johnson, who was arrested in 2009 on charges of domestic violence and two other misdemeanor charges, has been sentenced by a judge in Alameda County, Calif., to serve three years probation, along with community service, and domestic violence counseling.
Abel Nazario Trujillo, another cage fighter scheduled to compete on the UFC fight card on Dec. 8th in Seattle, has twice pleaded guilty to Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. In both cases, the victim was identified as the mother of his child. In May 2007, Trujillo also pleaded guilty to Obstruction of an Emergency Communication.

In the plea agreement, Trujillo acknowledged that the crime required the State to prove that his alleged assault victim was making a 911 call, Trujillo knew that she was making a 911 call, and Trujillo hung up the phone. Trujillo competes under the nickname “Killa.”

Would they release Jon jones if he was charged with domestic violence?

They are the moral guardians if the fighter concerned is mid tier or lower

Plenty of finishing on the prelim cards here.

That flying knee was a thing of beauty

Soem good fights so far, I've only seen from the Formiga pre lim onwards, how fast is he? Bit unlucky for Jorgenson as looked like clash of heads put him on his arse but once on the ground it was always looking to be a submission by Formiga. That fella Taisumov done my head in that last fight, from grabbing hold of shorts(how long did it take ref to catch onto that??) to grabbing hold of fence, I thought he was going to get DQ'd. Looking forward to rest of the nights fights

Ref deducting a point for holding shorts without a warning , moron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Surprised Parke got the draw there, it's the fairest result, but I thought the home fighter would have got the nod.

he was also very quick to separate them in the clinch during 1st & 2nd rounds. **** fight, Parke tried but Santos just looked to try spoiling tactics, if I dont see him fight again it will be too soon.

    Beat my bet aswell

Decent showing from Parke. Probably lucky to get the m-draw.

Santos punished for showing no desire to win in the third. Happy to just clinch. Too good for him :)

Same ref who stopped the Jason/Siler fight (prelims) way too early

Any coincidence that his first name is an anagram of WEINER

Or maybe not, Paddypower voided the fight....I thought they offered draws in MMA betting? I'm not complaining but feel like withdrawing my money before they change their mind :D

Both looked rubbish. A draw was too good for either of them. Surprising that was on the main card.

well that didnt last long, didnt think CB Dollaway had it in him

Incredible come back. Thought showgun could have finished it in the second though.

Rua's nose is a mess, devastating knockout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Rua broken nose, he was comfortably winning and working his way to a stoppage I thought..

but NO! Hendo with that eternal right hand. Can never really count out a weapon like that.

    Very good show tonight.

Well I thought the bell saved him in the 1st and if Shogun was a bit more aggressive when he knocked Dan in the 2nd he might have finished there but Dan recovered and well that right hand is scary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Is Shogun most guilty of losing concentration in his fights? or are the reasons for him losing down to injuries/fitness/motivation?

he was seconds away from finishing, tough loss to take

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

I really thought Dan was goosed in the second and was worried for him. He was sluggish, had a sloppy takedown (knee pick I think) stuffed and stumbled out of it. Dat chin though. Dat chin.

Ya the sloppy takedown attempt was when I thought he really was in trouble, some man though.
On another note they just beeped Parker for saying arse(I think thats what they beeped anyway),lol

That's America for you. Half naked young adults as kids/teens' idols, but can't have the hearin' bad language. Hilarious IMO.

I really can't believe Hendo came back Shogun was the more technical throughout the bout and rocked very badly twice. Some f*cking chin. He is not far off 44 and still has 5 fights left on his UFC contract. Crazy stuff.

He needs a few years to take all Randy's records.
Maybe oldest KO next time out. Oldest champ after that when he beats Jones...

I never enjoy the fight nights, they're almost always way below the standard of the regular UFC shows.

Beautiful technique circling him right into that right hand. Have to say, despite how it ended I thought Shogun looked in better shape than I've seen him in a while. He looked fit and healthy and seemed to be disciplined in following a game plan. Here's hoping he gets a better result next time out.

Wow Scott Jorgensen's career is taking a nose dive.

On the flip side, it's nice to see old hammerhead Maldonado rack up a few wins.

Yeah you can fight for your country in a war but can't have a beer to celebrate if you come back alive :D

What? Last nights show was great, only the Parke/Santos fight was bit crap but every other fight I seen(inc couple pre lims) I really enjoyed

He was unlucky with the deduction without a warning, should have been his win.
That said, the first round was close. So he had to have been aware that he was likely cruising to a draw in the third. Felt he should of went for the finish a little more.

They don't make then like Dan Henderson anymore, he's amazing to be honest.
