    Hi,

Just to let you know that the race details (routes, profiles, sign on times etc) for the Drogheda Wheelers race weekend are now on the website - http://www.droghedawheelers.ie/

As usual we will be running the Ras Na N'og stage race for the youths on Saturday and Sunday. For Senior and Junior riders we will also be running the Peter Bidwell memorial on Saturday evening and the Coombes Connor on Sunday.

Please note that the Peter Bidwell will be limited to 140 riders (as per CI technical regs), as we simply would not have the daylight to run a separate A4 race that evening. Entry will be available on a first come, first served basis.

    Hope to see you there!!

    Lenny

I assume you are talking about the senior races? There is no online sign up for these races.

No mention of the ladies only race mooted on womenscycling.ie. Is it going ahead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

There is no Ladies only race this year. We replaced the Drogheda Ladies race with the Boyne GP ladies race, which was round 1 of the national ladies league. Any reference to Drogheda ladies only race on womenscycling.ie that I can see relates to last year's ladies only race.

Ladies are, of course, more than welcome to race in any of the other races.

The National League flyer doesn't mention a Drogheda race (Although we will be hosting round 6 with the Brendan Campbell memorial later in the year)

Thanks Lenny. It wasn't in the national league but it was mentioned in the 'Guide to Open Racing' as a Ladies Only race.

    Anyhow; all clear now, thanks.

Thanks smurphy29 - I've sent a mail to womenscycling.ie just in case people turn up expecting a ladies only race.

If any of you have youths who intend riding ras na n'og please note that these events are pre entry and must be received no later than Wed 2nd.Need to get all the names in to the computer for results as its a 3 stage race.

Final meeting tomorrow night Tues to nail down all plans.
One development today is that we have no access to off road parking for stage 2 of Ras na N'og on Sat aftternoon or for the Peter Bidwell Mem race on Sat evening.Other than team cars and race official cars there will be NO CARS ALLOWED to park anywhere close to the circuit as the roads are too narrow.
    Options as follows
Park in Donore Village and watch race there

Park at the retail park[loads of parking]where sign on is.This venue is 1.3km from the finish area. For spectators who are travelling with riders and for parents etc of the youth riders we have organised a free shuttle to and from the retail park to the circuit which will be running up and down from 2.30pm until the Senior race finishes at approx 6.50pm.
Bit of a pain i know but lets keep the roads clear for the cyclists and smooth flow of traffic. Also we wont be annoying residents parking on their grass verges etc.We enjoy a good relationship with the locals, and the Garda and we want to keep it that way.Security will be supplied at the retail pk to mind the cars.No problem with parking up at finish area on Sat morning or on Sunday as the R150 road where both of these are located is plenty wide enough with wide grass verges. Thanks in advance for your co-operation in this regard. As i said already its a pain, but the time has come for our sport,to be seen to be making an attempt to tighten up on safety and good housekeeping.

Really looking forward to this. With a bit of luck I might get the cast off tomorrow. Only problem is I've no idea what happened t my CI numbers, as all my gear was cut off in casualty.

This is always an excellent weekend of racing. The Peter Bidwell is on a fast circuit that is also technical in places. It is usually non stop attacking and one has to be alert to breaks at all times.
It is a good loosener for the Coombes Connor on Sunday. This is also on a good circuit and hopefully will witness some top class racing again this year.
If you have time to spare try to see some of the Rás na nÓg stages. Stars of the future giving it their all and producing a great spectacle.

Best of luck to Wav1 and the Drogheda crew on the organisation of yet another full programme of races.

As Ragazzo said if you can take in a few laps of some of the youth races please do and encouragement from senior riders which they are striving to become means a lot to them.Entrys for youths passed 100 today.

I really enjoyed these two days last year. I punctured out on the second last lap of the Sunday, but had great fun until then.

Remember how many laps you have though guys. Let's not have a repeat of last year.

    What happened last year?

Someone celebrated on their win on the second last lap I believe.

yeah - i remember that alright. I remember thinking along the lines of 'oh, is he trying to attack? Why is he still sprinting. Why are his hands in the air, Does he think its over? Oh no. He does. Poor guy. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA'

moral of the story is pay attention. In fairness tho, the race was one lap longer last year than previous years.

    :D

I'm probably going to give Sunday a go. First race since last september. If I get to the second last lap I'll be celebrating!

If you get to the third lap, sprint over the line with your hands in the air! That would be gas altogether. Maybe spread a rumour that there is a prime....

What made it even more memorable for me was that he was so embarrassed he immediately pulled in clutching his hamstring....couldnt face the abuse from the bunch after that...couldnt blame him!

Park up in Donore village and watch there or park at the retail pk which is a 15 min walk to the finish or hop on the ras na n'og shuttle.Thats Sat afternoon by the way.Sat morn and Sun morning are both on the R150 and parking is not an issue [i hope]

Last night was great as usual. Only 12 A4s which was weird. So when we started I wasn't sure if we should gun it or wait. Probably should have waited instead. We were caught by some juniors then the rest of the A3 bunch. About half the A4s held on with a few of us down the back, me not positioned well at all yo-yoing away so when the A2s hit on the second last lap I was too far off the back to be prepared for the upsurge. Finished with a mixed group at the end.

Hopefully we have similar weather today

Another great race today. Sunshine but tough wind.

Nothing major for me to report. Another bunch fodder finish, but wanted to say thanks to Wav1 and Lennymc for the organisation and route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,763 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Great race, thanks to Drogheda Wheelers for putting it on. Lucky there was no crash in the A4 race, worst riding I have seen this season, one lad at the front on the high speed section on lap 2 or 3 touched wheels with the guy in front, thankfully he stayed up, that could have been carnage.

I felt good all day, did some work on the front, rolled home about 12th in the bunch sprint, got boxed in and could have perhaps finished a bit higher, the race was very easy probably due to the wind, and mass sprints aren't my forte, looking forward to Stamullen next Sun!

Best roads surfaces so far this year, very safe, very enjoyable race. Well done Drogheda Wheelers on a great days racing. A lot of negative riding in the A4 race but not surprising with the headwind on part of circuit. Very fast finish, well done to the lads who scored.

Very much a club effort with a lot of help from outside sources.Very cycling friendly Supt is a honoury member of the club and this smoothed the way a lot.The whole weekeng was/is a bit of a manic undertaking but went off well.I would be the first to admit that we could get it better but overall happy enough with the promotion.Moment of the w/end had to be when we had to put a medium race leaders jersey on to the leader of the U12 race.Took about 10 minutes to tuck everything in,but he was happy as a pig in s...t.

A few tried, but it was pointless. felt like it was either a block headwind or massive tailwind. Thought it would suit me but legs are dead at the moment. Need to have a chat with Inquitus's Doctor, or mechanic :)
