    Well am I?

I'm over 50, and want to lose about 2.5 stone.

I'm a bit apprehensive about UCD gym - loads of young wans all hopping and lepping around ...

Never too old for any gym. If anything I find people have much more of a case of the "fair play to ya's" than the "look at the state of ya's"

StarNails, may I invite you over to the forum for folks of our vintage (over 50/60). Maybe some of our gang already go to a gym and could give you some info. Our gang can be found here:

Maybe I'll bump into you there sometime.

I also need to shed some weight but am doing it gently via lots of walking, smaller portions, cutting out naughty treats and no processed or fast food. Its slow but it is working.

OP, the UCD sports centre has a few gyms. One is for sports teams, another is the student gym and then the other is the 'main gym.' Students can't use the main gym at sometime during the afternoon, maybe from 2 til 5 as far as I can remember. I'm not sure how busy the main gym gets during the evenings (ie. after work) and I rarely use the main gym so I'm not entirely sure what the ratio of students to non-students is but I'd say it's probably in your favour. The gym posers are mainly in the student gym! :P

Access for members only between half 5 and half 8 if you're self conscious of students. It does get seriously packed outside of these hours so as a paying member this is your best bet.

Most of the student members are young, but there's a very diverse mix among the private members in terms of age and experience in the gym, so I don't think you'll have any issues.

Never too late to make the change you want.

Get in there and give it a go.
