Good riddance to the drug dealing murdering scumbag.

Pity it wasn't in a wooden box.

Not true. I just served him a shamrock shake in McDonalds on the kylemore road. Went mental at me cos the Toy he got with his happy meal wasn't the one he wanted.

But is the island still there? And since he fcuked off, is it now just "island" instead of "Gilligan's island"? These are important questions.

He won't stay in the UK he will probably dissapear to Spain.

Just don't understand how we as tax payers have to protect this scum and give him a Garda armed support to leave.

These people should not be allowed leave now saying that I would rather not have them living beside me but it just seems mad all these criminals can just up and leave the other side is with such lazy laws and rules we import plenty of criminals also.

Have to agree with poster above "who did he murder"......sure he was only found guilty of selling pot and at that he was put away on circumstantial evidence (confession of another dealer who was plea bargaining for statement)..…...as far as the law goes he's no worse than Karl marks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,215 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I doubt he will end up in Spain.. If you are to believe what you read the orders for his extermination came from Irish based criminals in Spain so I'd imagine he would want to keep well away. I doubt someone with a profile such as his can stay hidden for too long. The cops in the UK or wherever he goes ultimately will have had a heads up I'm sure and be keeping an eye on him. I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before he meets his maker though.

He operated in an industry that has it's foundation in violence and despite assertions such as " ahh he was only selling a bit of blow to those who wanted it" is BS. You only have to look at the poor electrician who was killed and all the countless innocent family members who suffered at the hands of gang violence...

His bodyguard Dougie Moran was shot dead outside his home in Lucan yesterday, so obviously whoever has decided to kill Gilligan is not fooling around. Surely it's just a matter of time before someone catches up with him and doesn't miss? Third times a charm and all that. Nasty world they live in and I wouldn't fancy being in his shoes at the moment.

You are 100% right......"ah he was only selling a bit of blow" is no excuse....he was selling illegal drugs and that is more than enough to get you killed

Depending on which paper you read, says he left prison penniless and tried to put the squeeze on a few of his former cronies.

Chances are he may have been ok if he'd just gotten out and kept his head down. Hard to feel sorry for him.

Chances are he may have been ok if he'd just gotten out and kept his head down. Hard to feel sorry for him.

There are massive grudges held against him across the world of organised crime as he is seen as being the one who caused the foundation of the CAB as a result of the public outcry after Veronica Guerins killing. I.E he brought huge heat onto the criminal world and millions upon millions were lost. Even people in totally non-drug related rackets were pi55ed majorly. Like most worlds, time moves on and new players emerge - and even if JG had done nothing after his release, the simple fact of who he was means people would be after his scalp.

Many of his close associates have also either been killed, exiled or are lying low till the storm passes. A major associate was killed after crossing the Russian Mob in Spain - they shot him and entombed his body in concrete. That man would have been a major facilitator for JG and would have arranged deals and logistics/distribution - he was a very dangerous individual and also very shrewd. Without him, and another Kildare based operator who dominated a lot of South-West Dublin both on his own and in association with Gilligan, and who was/is both very shrewd and a massive deal-maker who is now in exile as his life was also in danger, Gilligans power base was very much diminished.

I would know these men on a "Hows it going" basis, maybe a little better in some cases, and their lives are always a tightrope act, balancing staying ahead/in-with/away from the Law on the one hand and keeping ahead of the competition in their own worlds. Not a life I'd fancy, just too chaotic, fraught and cut-throat. There's always a new-kid on the block, usually more prepared than the last to wheedle, shoot, bludgeon and grass their way to the top. It's a tough old world they operate in. I don't envy them one little bit tbh. Every knock on the door can either be the cops or other robbers. That gets fraught. I'll stick to licking windows.

serious pic of him leaving the hospital in the herald today, i had to look at it a few times and still couldn't believe it, he's 100% defeated and finished in Ireland, imo only way he's coming back to Ireland is if someone gets him abroad

How is he funding his rehab abroad if he apparently hasn't a pot to piss in? The NHS would hardly cover it for a non resident for injuries sustained in ones own homeland surely (he is apparently in Birmingham)

How much money he does or doesn't have is a funny old tale. For donkeys years the usual suspects in the red tops have been writing about how he is still running imports and this that and the other with his smuggled mobiles and what not. Now they are telling us he is stone broke.

never believe anything the gutter trash rags have to say, he probably has a lot of money hidden offshore, cab would never be able to get everything, it would be logistically impossible, remember they were only set up as another form of "revenue collection" for the government and to satisfy the ranting rabel rabel brigade after veronikas murder

They have been pretty successful though, no? In disrupting organised crime, making rewards more risky and harder to hold onto for scumbags. Would it have been better if CAB were not set up?
