MSI U180 upgrade HDD

    Hi all,

    have an MSI U180, 2GB Ram, with failing / failed HDD.

    Ran Puppy Linux from live usb and the netbook is fine, although it refuses to find the wireless. That's a known issue apparently.

    Its for a non-techie, so I want to go ahead and put a new drive in and a very good-looking Linux distro for her.

    I want to keep costs low, low, low. So was looking at simply replacing the 320GB SATA with a 40GB from Adverts.ie with a limited warranty; for €12 + 4 post. A pulled and tested drive. And have her use Google Drive and Dropbox.

    But looking at DABS, I see 320GB HDD for around €40 and a Kingston 30GB SSD for €41. Would I be mad to try and get 2 years out of the pulled HDD or would I be better to depend on getting 4 years let's say from that SSD. I've just started to feel that a smaller, cheaper drive is better. No point in buying into large drives for what is just a sofa-surfing netbook??
