Off your feet? What to eat?

I'm in a leg brace for atleast 4 weeks due to a broken knee cap. I usually play rugby and do a strength program on the days when I'm not rugby training. With this I have a fairly good nutrition plan, which consists of a lot of proteins, raw veg, good fats like avocado and nuts.

As I was gaining speed with my strength program I was upping my cal intake with proteins and a bit of carbs (pre training meals etc)

However, now I'm off my feet I'm worried, if I don't cut down drastically on my cal intake I'll undo all the work I've done.

On the other hand I'm worried about losing lean muscle mass, although I understand I'll lose some of that anyway without exercise.

So what I'm wondering is what should I do to try and keep myself honest nutrition wise when I'm very limited on how much training I can do? What foods should I be looking into and should I take a calorie deficit?

    Ouch! That sounds painful.

Keep eating what your eating. By the sounds of it your diet is good, so as long as you don't go off the rails completely then you'll be ok. The same things that are good when training are good when your not training. You can afford to eat less carbs if you're not training.

If you keep your protein high and and eat at least maintenance then you will maintain a good chunk of your muscle tissue. It is inevitable that you'll loose a bit but you can limit the damage.

With regards to eating a deficit I wouldn't recommend it if anything you may wanna eat a surplus as your body will need the calories for repair. You might wanna recalculate what your calorie requirements are to factor in your reduced activity levels.

    Yeah that makes sense. Thanks!

Actually wasn't so painful, more just an awkward thing to repair! And even more awkward to keep fit with.
