I was aged 12 when one day, while I was shopping, I came across a little boy who was standing alone on the street, crying because he was lost. I asked him where he lived and, although he didn't know his address, he described where his house was. I thought that I recognised the area he was describing. It was a short bus ride away so I spent my last few pence on bus tickets for us. When we got off the bus he recognised his house. His mother was at home, distraught. Her husband had been shopping with their son but somehow they became separated. This was long before mobile phones were available so she could not contact her husband. She phoned the Garda Station to say that if her husband contacted them that her son was now safe at home.
I left the boy with his mother and walked home - I had no money left for a bus.
The next morning I was awoken early by my mother. A man was at our door and he wanted to talk to me. He explained that he was the boy's father and he wanted to thank me for bringing his son home. He presented me with a Pound note to thank me. The Gardai had managed to discover where I lived, based on what I had told the boy's mother about myself.
Naturally, I was thrilled at receiving a reward for my good deed and have never forgotten it.

I was working in a phone store and this elderly lady came in and approach me at the counter. She rudely ask for 20 Nokia, I knew she didn't want 20 Nokia phones ,however I felt presuming this would have made her more angry, so I went and brought out 3 selected Nokia phones I thought she may be interested in and offered the lady a look.

she quickly shot me down and said "what are you doing young man, I don't want a phone I have a fine working phone in my hand" , I said I do apologise and made my way to getting her 20 Vodafone, I then ask her would she like if I put the credit in for her and to say the response was shockingly nice is an understatement.

She said thank you young man that's very kind, in a nice tone unlike when she first approach me when came in. That was pre 10Am and she came back into store after lunch with cakes for all the staff as a thank you for helping her put the credit in.  I thought it was very kind of her I was just doing my job.

Another happy customer after I calmly and nicely went a little out of my way to help her, she was sweet. I always tell that story at functions its a great memory to look back on.

Any time I pass an exam at college with a decent mark too. Better than birthdays and Christmases combined.

Speaking of birthdays. It's mine on the 18th of March. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. :P

Helping an old lady who was being blown by the wind with 2 bags of shopping we took her shopping and linked arms, to escort her to her bus.
More recently I had a €10 off shopping voucher which I couldn't use, so I gave it to a lady that I had just met, a week or so later she presented me with a box of Thankyou chocolates, which was lovely. And I gave a lift to another elderly lady from the supermarket into town right to the door of the shop she wanted and helped her out of the car, even though it made me little late for my dental appointment.
Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean a great deal to someone.

Once found a substantial amount of cash in a handbag in Tralee. Handed it into the security guard at Tesco, got a call a few hours later from an extremely grateful lady who was super thankful that we had handed it in, they were going on holidays on the Monday and that was all their funds for it.

Didn't get a reward per se, but still felt good.

Had a small car accident recently where I ended up stuck in a ditch on an extremely quiet country road.  Lucky for me a farmer in his tractor came along and managed to tow me out with some rope.  Before I headed off on my way, I got the farmer's name and address and sent him a thank you card and voucher as a way of appreciation even though he modeslty said he would not take any payment for his efforts.

Has to be the giant galaxy easter egg I won in primary school. Close second would be the medal from college for graduating top of my class. Definitely the sweet sweet egg is first though.

Not a story as such but I try to do at least one good deed everyday. I don't get a reward out of it, I just enjoy helping others. Did I mention that I also love 40" TVs??

helped someone out who was involved in an accident a few years ago and a couple of days later I got a nice box of chocs.. was nice that they acknowledged the assistance, even though there was no need to

As a loyal Electric Ireland customer I've been rewarded with consistent price rises despite falling costs and pay levels elsewhere in the Irish and world economy. How I laughed to read about ongoing pay rises at ESB, no relation to Electric Ireland of course, although the deals were probably negotiated before the break up! But the best reward of all is getting to see Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin prancing around for no particular reason to mark Powering Rewards! No doubt the cost of rewarding her for all her efforts will be passed on to me too!

I painted the neighbor's fence when I was a kid, got a lovely five pound note as a reward for my troubles. Its far harder finding kids to do it these days for a fiver, half of them have set up their own painting business by ten.

Gave a fairy cake to a very sick relative who was so sick he could not communicate very well. all my baking efforts were rewarded with a big smile and a gesture for another bite.

In such a sad situation it was a small moment of delight for him but a massive wave of happiness for me to see him enjoy something I had put a bit of time and care into making.

I won a lovely pewter medal in an art competition when I was in primary school, not an amazing thing but I recall how proud I was when I see it now.

when the old couple were shocked that i gave up my seat on the bus so that they could sit together... the nicest reward is that it was appreciated and the couple said it restored their faith in good people.

Got the greatest reward of my life just before Christmas 2013 when my son Alex was born!    I couldn't imagine my life without him now:)   He's always smiling and laughing.    I can't wait to sit him down in front of the new TV and show him all of my favorite shows like Breaking Bad and Game Of Thrones!

Got two free gaa all ireland tickets at work two years ago, for the Mayo V Donegal match and they were as usual hard to come by! so there was one for me and instead of giving the ticket to a fellow Mayo supporter I gave it to my friend a Donegal supporter, she was delighted, and even more so when they won!

My 5-year old son asked for a reward for eating all of his dinner. I told him the reward was he'd grow big and strong. He said it was a stupid reward and that he wanted a jaffa cake. I said no.
