The Myrrdin Hall of Shame

A place built by the combined weight of shame, shame at not playing games the rest of us played ages ago, by Myrddin alone.
That said, this is a place of catharsis, where any gamer with a hidden shame can come and share, and be pointed and laughed at by others

Resident evil apart from a few minutes at the GC remake - damn controls!

Only two Zelda games - Ocarina of Time and a little bit of the Snes one
No final fantasy games apart from a little bit of mystic quest
Chrono trigger despite owning it for a year so far

None of the contra on nes
None of the mega man on Snes
Name it on Megadrive and I probably haven't played it

Only played street fighter on dream cast and the marvel vs capcom

It would be shorter to say what I haven't played on Xbox and ps3

In fact at times I really don't think I can lay claim to that holiest of monikers, that of the gamer, at all but then I look at my 3ds and see over 100 hours invested in Fire Emblem and added to that are the possible thousands of hours giving to mario kart DD, mario bros 3, mega man on the gameboy, Castlevania on everything and lately shin Megami tensai.

Played Shenmue a few years back for maybe ten minutes - dear god what is this horrible looking crap, turned it off, sorry richy (he's the Shenmue nut around here?). How do you even pronounce the game? "Shen-moo", "Shen-meuw"?

I had to Google MOBA a while back, seemingly the latest craze in gaming. Not for me (thankfully).

I called it 'Shen-moo-ee' based one person saying it to me back when the Dreamcast was new.

Noticed folks at the beers saying 'Shen-moo' - so I'm not sure!

Is it really that ugly looking even ten years ago? From what I've heard it's a real product of it's time.

No idea at all what MOBA is. Isn't that a black music award ceremony or something?

I'm gonna melt the internet here, never played (or maybe never properly played):

Resident Evil 2, 3 or 4 (or any other RE other than 1)
    Shenmue 1 or 2
Any of the Final Fantasy games (I think I might have played a few mins of VII, nothing more than that though)
    Chrono Trigger
    Secret of Mana
Nothing more than a few mins of a random Megaman game
    Demons/Dark Souls
    The Wind Waker
    Twilight Princess
    Super Metroid
    Panzer Dragoon
    No God of War games
    None of the Uncharted games
None of the Silent Hill games

And many, many other games that are highly rated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

I only played System Shock 2 for the first time recently. And found it a bit cumbersome to play and gave up pretty quickly... probably one of those games you had to play when they first came out and were fresh.

I keep getting titanfall confused with that anime thing about skinned looking giants. Also I don't care.
I like castlevania adventure on the GB! I don't share the rest of the worlds love of Mario! I own a cdi! ..for shame

System Shock 2 is one of those games that takes a while to click. It also starts off really tough but gets better and more enjoyable once you get used to it and get better weapons.

As for me I've not played Psychonauts or Beyond Good and Evil yet, well for more than 15 minutes. I also probably own each game about 3 different times at this stage.

    I've not finished Bayonetta yet.

I've only beaten Dragon Quest I, VIII and IX and still not finished V which is far and away the best. Same with the DQ monster games, I own them but not started them.

Still not played Zelda Link between worlds, Gravity Rush, Super Mario 3D Land and a rake of other current gen games I bought but haven't gotten around to playin yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

For the most part (with the very occasional exception) I don't like RPGs, and so have played very few of them, and enjoyed even less than that!

    I've not played Demon/Dark Souls.

I've had an arcade control panel for almost a year now that I was to make a USB CP to use with MAME etc. on my PC, and haven't gotten the buttons/joystick/iPAC for yet. :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭Doge

    Where do I start here....

RPGs - I mean like....any of them! The closest thing I played was Borderlands!
So that includes all of the Zelda Games
    Most last gen games
99% of NES games including Megaman + Metroid
All Super mario games that came out after the SNES (besides Mario Kart 64)
Never owned an N64 so think of all the games I missed out on
    Shemnue series
    Silent Hill Series
    God of War series
    Resident Evil 1 + 4
    Timesplitters
    Pyschonaughts
    99% of SHMUPS

    and many more...

I really really don't like Golden Axe, even more than I don't like Streets of Rage.

I find I love racing games but, if played after 11pm, they make me fall asleep.

I have never played more than 15 minutes of a Final Fantasy game and liked the experience.

So far, in 2013, my son has finished more games than i have.

I have 6 people on my Xbla friends list :(

Only Super Metroid from that list made me  and :(. Sure if you were in the MD camp growing up then you probably never had the chance. It would be the same for me with Sonic, never had an MD back in the day so only got to play it 'recently'.

I felt the same about Deus-Ex, looks terrible and was a bit meh. But I've no problem acknowledging it probably is/was a great game - I just never gave it much time.

Yeah. I was lucky enough to play Deus-Ex at the time and enjoyed it a lot.

I was Mac only for a long stretch of time so my PC gaming was limited for a big period of time.

I have sooooooooo many games that i haven't played its either great or terrible whichever way you choose to look at it.
I tend to look at it as an opportunity at this stage.
So much choice even by just looking at my backlog i wouldn't need to buy another game for quite some time!
When i get through a bit more of said backlog ive promised myself that i will purchase and play a link to the past and a few other vc games that i missed in the past due to being a megadrive guy back in the day.
The issue is time people. Nowhere near enough of it.

I picked up some sealed Persona ps2 games early last year and they still sit untouched :o Heard Retro going on about them before and saw them at a good price, just have to find the time to play them now. Never got around to starting Fire Emblem on the 3ds either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

My secret shame is that I very rarely finish games. I play some for maybe 30-60 minutes at a time but always find my self going back to the same handful of games I've played lots of times before. Which leads me to another thing which is that probably 65% of my collection have never even seen the inside of a console :(

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,114 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

There are some great games I've played a lot of but never actually finished. RPGs tend to be the worst offenders, as for whatever reason I sometimes simply do not make it past the 30 hour mark or so. Never finished a Dragon Quest game, for example, despite having played dozens of hours across 3 (!) of them, or shamefully Chrono Trigger or Earthbound (you don't need to tell me how wrong that is - especially since I think they're both fantastic games, I simply got distracted by other stuff).

Since this was strictly a one console household until I was in my late teens, there's a whole lot of retro consoles I haven't played a lot of - most ridiculously the (S)NES, Dreamcast or Saturn. Although I'm pleased to say I've caught up on a lot of the games thanks to re-releases and the like. Still gaping holes, of course (Panzer Dragoon Saga, for example). I tried to play Shenmue 2 on Xbox, and honestly after having played some of the later Yakuza games it was hard to go back - the abysmal English dubbing didn't help.

I'm sure there's hundreds of games I could list if I thought about it, but looking at some of the lists above makes me feel a little bit relieved :pac: I do tend to find catching up on games much harder than catching up on films or anything else. If there's a film I realise I need to check out, I can usually have that sorted pretty promptly - at the weekend I realised there was a prominent director whose films I had never seen, and had two of her films watched within 48 hours. With a game, there's usually dozens of hours required - and that's down to if the game is even sourceable or playable!

I've always had a PC since 1996 but I rarely had the money to upgrade it so there's a big gap in my PC games playing, most regrettably during the late 90's when PC gaming was going through a golden era. I only ever played up to the third mission of Deus Ex recently (another game like System Shock 2 that takes forever to actually click. Anyone that thinks you had to have been there for that game, it looked like ass on release as well). Also only ever played a small amount of Fallout and my experience of Fallout 2 was watching a friend play some of it. Never played the Bioware Infinity engine games or Planescape Torment.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,631 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

And here's another bad one, of all the lucasarts adventure games I only ever finished Monkey Island.

Fallout 2 is definitely worth giving a playthrough. Fantastic game with a brilliant sense of humour. I really enjoyed Fallout 3 but it's still missing something which made 2 so great (maybe the Black Isle name!)

Never did get into Planescape Torment.. played it for a few hours but it never really clicked.

Here's a more modern one, I haven't played any of the Mario Galaxy games through to completion. Probably played about 60% of the first one but got distracted before it was done.

I also haven't gotten all 96 exits in Super Mario World but we've discussed that already :pac:

Edit; I've also never actually completed the first Super Mario Bros start to finish.

    Lots of Mario related shame!

I've never finished a Zelda game. I get most of the way through and get bored towards the end. Same with every one of them. They're still great games, I just can't do 40 hours of one.

You're talking about the first NES game, not the Lost Levels? I must go back and play it. Never remembered it being overly difficult or we were just much better players as kids.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,631 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yeah the original NES game. I never had a NES so didn't play it as a kid much but going into it relatively cold it's a very tough game. In most mario games you can ignore coins but it you want to get enough lives to see the end of super mario bros you need to be collecting as many as possible.

Same. Well, I didn't find it boring just got distracted and never went back to it.

Similar story with the Metroid Prime games on the GC. Loved and finished the first one, second one was a bit meh in comparison I thought so didn't stick with it. No. 3 still sitting on the shelf.

This one will probably upset Cidey, but I never got into the Wipeout games. They looked great at the time but I could never get used to handling (or it annoyed me enough to never get good at it). They weren't a match for the F-Zero series either, especially the GC version.

The only Metroid games I've completed are Zero Mission and Other M.

Ouch! I loved Zero Mission. The Zero suit bit was even good, enforced stealth bit that fits with the game!

Other M was a bit of a shambles, but had some good elements to it.

Super Metroid and the Prime games were much better than Other M though!
Zero Mission was better than Fusion, so there's that at least. Fusion does touch on "Adam" too story wise though.

In saying that, I've never finished the NES Metroid, or Metroid 2

I did a straight run through Wipeout on the PS at a Gamesworld party one time, no one was watching :(
The original is poor compared to later editions and, like Burnout, the real fans love the second one, in this case 2097, a nice game indeed.
