Nice job....If the rungs are a foot apart and you hang it over the side of the boat so that the bottom rung is a foot above the water about an hour before high tide with the tide rising 12 inches every 15 minutes How many rungs will be below the water at high tide. :)

now you have me not very good at adding up . it,s only for any emergences that may happen like saving someone over board . it wont be permanently over the side just for when the other half fancy,s a dip will save me dragging her on board .

O and fergal just worked out your puzzle / very funny LOL .

Try it before you really need it. You can find that it is quite difficult to use. It depends on the boat, but your feet can just swing in under the boat and you get no purchase when trying to climb - hard to describe, but try it

    This!

Even a rigid boarding ladder can be incredibly hard to get up onto from the water (or maybe that's my puny muscles showing :D)

Brush handle and clothesline? Terrible waste of both. All it is missing is the coathanger!

I have tried it with my weight hanging off the wall and it really sturdy . I made it long enough that it is under the boat by about 2 feet so plenty of leg room and grip . think what you would pay for a boat ladder all together it cost me about 5 euro and it does the job . i,m happy with it . and the boat is a shetland 570 made it with blue rope to match the boat . will just use it off the back of the boat . if i ever need to .

thanks guy,s for all the comments .

Did you consider that wood has a tendency to float? What I suggest you do is put the ends of the rope into two 'Fairy Liquid' washing up bottles and then fill them with cement and allow them to harden. You could even paint them a matching blue! Thus completed the bottom of the ladder would sink.

The problem will be the 2' under the water. If you are holding a rung just above the water and manage to get your feet (or foot) on a rung 2' under the water, your feet will go right in under the boat. They will not stay straight down, so you may not be able to climb up. Try it as soon as the water warms up :)

But but but.... (and not wanting to take away for one minute from your handiwork and ingenuity - honestly!) .... in an emergency is exactly when you don't want to discover that the bloody thing doesn't work

I agree with whoever posted above that you should give it a go before you actually need it :D

thanks for your input but i have ever intentions of checking it out first before i really do have to use it . i have hung it over the back wall and climbed up it with no problems what so ever . so i,d say it will do what it meant to do saves me going out a buying a boat ladder and there not cheap either .

just on safety and leaving the ladder on the boat, they introduced a thing in the marina in howth where the yachts that have ladders on the back stick a yellow ribbon or cloth on the ladder and a piece of string so that if someone does end up falling in off the marina instead of trying to find the nearest marina ladder they can pull the string on the boat ladder which pulls down into the water and then climb out.

i wont be leaving the ladder over the side of the boat for security reasons as any one can climb up and get into the boat . it will be round up and left in a box at the back of the boat for if i ever need to use it . hopefully i will never have to use it in an emergency touch wood :) but i know what your saying and that is a good idea !

    thanks for your input .:)
