how can bands apply to play at indiependence???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,570 ✭✭✭Irish_rat

My first time at indie last year, was very impressed. I have the loyalty tickets booked this year. 70 euro is a steal IMO. Hope the headliners are a bit stronger than indie 13' though. WAS were brilliant on the Friday night.

    Lineup announcement tomorrow, excited! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,091 ✭✭✭lc180

Cage The Elephant & The Courteeners are 2 names I've seen mentioned. Both seem to be free that weekend too.

Also I see they followed Frank Turner recently on Twitter, he is playing a festival in the UK that weekend so looks like a possibility!

    What time is the announcement?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,013 ✭✭✭MattD

Announcement is supposed to be at 7. There could be a leak before that though I'd imagine...

I'll be at the launch, I might see what I can scope out...

Kinda surprised how quiet this thread is!

Anyone know if you could just turn up to the launch in Cork? Or would you have to have an invite?

€70 for an early bird is incredible value considering who played it last year.

Wu-Tang/Bell X1/Bastille/Kodaline are all headliners in their own rights now who'd be charging ~€50 for an O2 gig nowadays.

    Great set up, great festival.

Definitely one of the best Festivals in Ireland for me.

Awful line-up compared to last year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,064 ✭✭✭✭Eod100

Didn't realise Sultans of Ping were still around.. Not too shabby a line-up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,342 ✭✭✭✭That_Guy

Not too bad. Really enjoyed myself last year. Didn't know an awful lot of the acts but sure that's half the fun of these festivals.

I reckon it'll need at least three more big-ish name additions to the line up to convince me to head back this year.

Not a bad lineup, Public Enemy are always great live. Was hoping Scroobius Pip & Dan La Sac would be at EP though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,999 ✭✭✭deisedude

Kind of disappointed. Have my ticket already anyway but none of the headliners have the wow factor

very little there to interest me. any of the ones i'd like to see play pretty regularly here anyway. will see Public Enemy at Forbidden Fruit.
might go to Castlepalooza that weekend instead.

Its not great but there's more to come. I like White Lies alot. I'll be there anyhow, great little festival for the bank holiday weekend after the Galway Races week :D

White Lies were fantastic last time they played. Really great line up, haven't seen Sultans in at least 15 years :o

Sorry De La Soul... getting my first nights of EP and Indie mixed up :pac:

Even looking back on 2013 there; We Are Scientists, The Fratellis, Ryan Sheridan, Funeral For A Friend as support acts to the headliners.

Some additions for Indiependence: Hozier, The Minutes, Hudson Taylor, Dan Croll, Tvvins, The Altered Hours, Elastic Sleep, The Vincent(s), Toy Soldier and the Slow Motion Heroes.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Seriously happy with these additions :D Hudson Taylor were great last year.

Praying for Frank Turner or another big name to pop up, it'd really be the icing on the cake for me.

Also, if anyone needs a tent pitched... give the scouts a shout! We'll be onsite all weekend :P [/self promotion]

Is this more than likely the complete line up? Aside from the Bacardi stage and spoken word and stuff...

There will probably be another announcement in June or July, just before ticket prices go up. :P

Mention of a surprise addition on the FB soon... Tame Impala are just finished a tour of Europe at the end of July that suspiciously leaves out Ireland... Could it be them?

Tbh (not trying to rain on anyone's parade) but I'd be very surprised if it was!

I love Indiependence but there's nothing really there that's saying, "BUY A TICKET FOR THIS NOW YOU FOOL" like there was last year.

me and a good few mates bought tickets to this this morning, haven't been before and looking forward to a good weekend! Out of interest, who were the 'wow' bands people are talking about last year? From looking at last years line-up it looks very similar in strength to this year.

Also, is it really only a slab of cans per person??

Walking on Cars definitely surprised everyone with their set last year anyway. They were playing in one of the smaller stages (The Beer Hall) and I presume that they didn't expect a big crowd, but the place was packed out and they gave a great performance. I didn't know any of their songs at the time, and to be honest I wouldn't really be listening to their music at all even after seeing them, but they do give a great live show.
Hudson Taylor also gave an unreal performance last year from what I've heard, but I didn't see them.
I think the headliners last year were a lot stronger but it'll still be a great weekend as always!

Does anybody know from last year if a bus runs from cork city and back for day tickets? Asked in the cork forum and was pointed here. Would love to do the 3 day but cant...

Looking down the bill, there's some great acts. Only heard them yesterday but Tvvins are class and supposed to be very good live.

Ya, i think the bands lower down the bill are stronger than other years but the headliners don't have the same sex appeal as last year in particular

I won't be able to get there until around 2200 on Friday night. I presume the wristband people will still be there? And the parking won't be full? Anyone Think I'll have a problem?

The on site parking probably will be full I'd say. Plenty places in town to park though. I think last year or the year before the GAA opened up the gates to the pitch and people parked up the driveway.

offical site says you can only bring in a slab of cans OR a bottle of spirits. thats a bit light isnt it. how strict is this?? my usual festival supplies are a bottle of vodka ,2 bottles a b and about 16 cans.never had any issue with amount of booze i was brining in at any other irish fest.

There's a Super Valu nearby and had no problem in bringing more beer in if required later on in the weekend.

Probably a stupid question but do day tickets include camping?

yea same question about camping. Any chance you clould arrive sunday with a tent and get away with it? Its either that, car or don't sleep.

No you wouldn't get away with it.

car, don't sleep or kipping in someone elses tent would probably be better options for one night only.

The campsite is pretty packed by Friday night. It'd be near impossible to get a place, even if it was allowed. :p
